    Abstract
    Vor fünf Jahren erschien die erste zusammenfassende Darstellung über bibliothekarische Datenformate von Bernhard Eversberg. Sie war bereits nach kurzer Zeit vergriffen. Die Überarbeitung dieses Büchleins hat zwar länger gedauert als geplant, führte jedoch zu einem respektablen Handbuch, das nun auch die aktuellen Pica-Formate voll einbezieht. Mit dem Abschnitt "Konkordanz der Formate" wurde ein wichtiges und in seiner Art einmaliges Nachschlagewerk geschaffen, das die Behandlung von mehr als 370 Begriffen in den einzelnen Formaten darstellt.

    Abstract
    Das Phänomen der Globalisierung betrifft zunehmend auch die bibliothekarische WeIt. Parallel zu den derzeit geführten Diskussionen über die Anpassung von internationalen Regelwerken und Austauschformaten wächst auch der Wunsch, fremdsprachige Katalogisate zumindest teilweise in Originalschrift eingeben zu können. Dieses Bestreben wird noch dadurch gefördert, dass in zunehmenden Maße die Voraussetzungen auf technischer Ebene gewährleistet werden. Zum einen sind nun die Windows-Betriebssysteme NT / 2000 / XP "unicodefähig", zum anderen unterstützt auch die neue Generation der integrierten Bibliothekssysteme immer öfter den Unicode-Standard, der für alle Schriftzeichen weltweit eine eindeutige Codierung vorsieht. Diese wachsende Akzeptanz des Unicode-Standards und die Verfügbarkeit unterstützender Programme zählen übrigens zu den bedeutendsten weltweiten Trends in der gegenwärtigen Softwaretechnologie. Auch im MAB-Ausschuss (MAB ist das Maschinelle Austauschformat für Bibliotheken) wurde diesen Entwicklungen Rechnung getragen und ein neues MAB-Feld zur Darstellung von Originalschrift und Umschrift bei der Verwendung von Unicode / ISO 10646 geschaffen. Ersten diesbezüglichen Überlegungen im November 2001 folgte ein Entwurf für ein neues MABFeld 671 der erst unlängst (Februar 2004) freigegeben wurde. Die aktualisierte MAB2 Online-Kurzreferenz-Version kann unter ftp://ftp.ddb.de~ pubtmab/erw-mab txt eingesehen werden. Für den Österreichischen Bibliothekenverbund bedeutete der Releasewechsel auf die ALEPH 500 Version 14.2 (Sommer 2001) die Möglichkeit, Unicode im vollen Umfang nutzen zu können. Vor allem die Fachbereichsbibliothek für Ostasienwissenschaften an der Universität Wien zeigte in der Folge nachdrückliches Interesse daran, japanische und koreanische Originalschriften in den Verbundkatalog einbringen zu können. Die aus diesem Anlass vorgenommene und im folgenden beschriebene Implementierung nutzen mittlerweile auch die Fachbereichsbibiiothek für Byzantinistik und Neogräzistik an der Universität Wien (Griechisch) sowie demnächst die Bibliothek des jüdischen Museums Wien (Hebräisch).
