    Abstract
    Eine wesentlich detailliertere Darstellung der einzelnen staatlichen Förderprogramme zur Entwicklung der Information und Dokumentation (Fachinformation) in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland bis Mitte der 1990er Jahre ist in entsprechenden Kapiteln der Vorauflagen dieses Buches gegeben. Darüber hinaus sind Angaben über die finanziellen Aufwendungen des Bundes für die staatlichen Förderprogramme zusammengetragen worden. Dort werden auch Hinweise zu wissenschaftspolitischen Einordnungen sowie die allgemeinen forschungs- und technologiepolitischen Entwicklungen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg gegeben. Im folgenden werden chronologisch die zentralen Entwicklungen in der Formulierung dieses Politikbereiches zusammengefasst. Auf eine Darlegung der Stellungnahmen aus der Fachöffentlichkeit zu den staatlichen Förderprogrammen muss aus Platzgründen verzichtet worden. Gleiches gilt auch für die Darstellung der Entwicklungen in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.

    Abstract
    Die Darstellung der theoretischen Grundlagen, die zu einer strukturierten und durchdachten Benutzerschulung führen, basiert hauptsächlich auf anglo-amerikanischer Literatur mit dem Schwerpunkt bei den Situationen der Universitätsbibliotheken. Die praktische Planung, Entwicklung und Organisation des Benutzerschulungsprogramms der New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Alamogordo nach der Lehrmethode Workbook wird dargestellt. Ferner werden die Benutzerschulungsangebote einer Bewertung unterzogen, inwieweit jene die in der Literatur beschriebenen Kriterien erfüllen, auch hier auf der Basis des Library Skills Workbook der Bibliothek, Abschließend folgt ein Ausblick auf neuere Tendenzen in der Benutzschulung in den USA und die Anwendbarkeit der theoretischen Grundlagen in Deutschland

    Abstract
    Informationskompetenz wird bereits in der Schule benötigt. Im Vergleich zu studentischen Curricula ist diese Schlüsselkompetenz aber in schulischen Curricula sehr verstreut definiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt beschriebene Inhalte zu Informationskompetenz in Deutschland und Polen dem Ansatz in Großbritannien gegenüber. Während in Großbritannien ein eigenes Unterrichtsfach und damit ein eigenes Curriculum für Informationskompetenz vorliegen, werden die hierfür benötigten Kompetenzen für deutsche und polnische Schüler verstreut in den einzelnen Fächern beschrieben. Damit sich ein abgestimmtes und ergänzendes Angebot an Schulungen zur Förderung der Informationskompetenz herausbilden kann, wird eine übergreifende Darstellung von Lernzielen zur Informationskompetenz am Beispiel des britischen Curriculums gefordert.
