    Seit etwa 1980 erfreut sich der Terminus Informationsmanagement einer zunehmenden Beliebtheit: Die Anzahl der themenrelevanten Publikationen stieg stetig und hält sich seit dem auf einem hohen Niveau, unzählige Konferenzen zum Thema finden mittlerweile seit gut 20 Jahren statt und zahlreiche Ausbildungsprogramme in Informationsmanagement wurden an Hochschulen weltweit etabliert.     Abstract
    Informationsmanagement ist Management- wie Technikdisziplin und gilt als Teil der Unternehmensführung. Die Notwendigkeitvon Medienunternehmen, einem qualifizierten Informationsmanagement nachzukommen, gründet vor allem auf jüngsten Entwicklungen im sozialen, wirtschaftlichen und technischen Bereich. Eine landesweite Analyse aus Expertengesprächen mit Geschäftsführern und Technischen Leitern in österreichischen Medienunternehmen brachte folgende Ergebnisse: Medienunternehmen betreiben ein auf mehrere Abteilungen verteiltes, sog. funktionales Informationsmanagement. Die Institutionalisierung in Form eines Informationsmanagers oder einer IM-Abteilung wird von der Unternehmensgröße, entsprechenden Bewerbern oder auch der Finanzierung abhängig gemacht. In einem Branchenvergleich von Medienunternehmen mit Banken und Versicherungen ergaben sich in Bezug auf das Informationsmanagement viele Übereinstimmungen; allerdings übersteigt bei Medienunternehmen die Bedeutung der Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme eindeutig den Stellenwert der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik. In einem Ausblick wird Medienunternehmen die Schaffung eines Informationsmanagers empfohlen.

    Abstract
    Vom 22.-25. Oktober 2013 fand in Istanbul die European Conference on Information Literacy statt. Teilnehmer kamen nicht nur aus Europa, sondern aus der ganzen Welt. Organisatoren dieser Konferenz waren das Department für Informationsmanagement der Hacettepe Universität in Ankara und das Department für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaft der Universität Zagreb. Im zentralen Fokus der Konferenz stand die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz sowohl in Bibliotheken als auch in der Hochschulbildung.

    Abstract
    In den Unternehmen hat man seit langem erkannt dass Wissen und Informationen wettbewerbskritische Ressourcen sind. Deshalb wurden vielfach Aktivitäten gestartet, um diese Ressourcen in Geschäftsprozesse zu integrieren. Der Beitrag diskutiert Chancen und Herausforderungen im Rahmen von Integrationsprojekten und stellt aktuelle Trends und Entwicklungen vor. Enterprise Information Integration wird als ein Konzept vorgestellt das auf den im Unternehmen vorhanden Ressourcen aufbaut und darauf abzielt diese besser zu vernetzen und zu optimieren. Außerdem werden zwei erfolgreiche Integrationsprojekte vorgestellt: zum einen das Informationsmanagement im Tabak- und Nahrungsmittelkonzern Altria und zum anderen das CRM-Projekt bei Reuters, der größten internationalen Multimedia-Nachrichtenagentur.

    Abstract
    Zwölf Studierende des Studiengangs Bibliotheks- und Informationsmanagement der Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart entwickelten ein Online-Wissens-Portal mit dem Schwerpunkt Informationswesen. Ziel des Projekts ist es, eine ausbaufähige Online-Plattform aufzubauen, die Informationsspezialisten einen kommunikativen Ort der Informationsbeschaffung und fachlichen Diskussion bietet. Bezugnehmend auf die aktuelle Thematik des Web 2.0 und der kollektiven Intelligenz, stellt das B.I.T.Wiki so eine zeitgemäße Möglichkeit dar, Beiträge rund um das Informationswesen der Fachöffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Alle Spezialisten aus dem Informationssektor sind aufgerufen, andere an ihrem Wissen teilhaben zu lassen und am Aufbau des Portals aktiv mitzuarbeiten.

    Abstract
    "Trends wie Globalisierung, Innovation und Dekonstruktion der Wertschöpfungskette wirken bei der Transformation vom Informationsmanagement hin zum Wissensmanagement als Katalysatoren. Damit einher geht eine Ausdehnung der Managementfunktion auf traditionell "implizite" Wissensbereiche sowie auf innovatives, noch nicht gefestigtes Wissen. Während das Management von explizit vorhandenem, relativ stabilem und daher standardisierbarem Wissen heute von führenden Unternehmen mit teils proprietären Wissensmanagementsystemen gut verwaltet werden kann, stellt der Umgang mit impliziten und innovativen Wissenselementen nach wie vor eine grosse Herausforderung dar. Zusätzlich erschwert wird diese Aufgabe durch die zunehmende Globalisierung, welche das Wissensmanagement in einen multikulturellen Kontext stellt und dadurch die Komplexität der Kommunikation erheblich erhöht. Ein rein technischer und informationslogisch basierter Ansatz hilft hier nur begrenzt weiter. Unternehmen, die darauf angewiesen sind auch in impliziten und innovativen Wissensbereichen ausserordentliche Leistungen zu erbringen, müssen bei der Unternehmenskultur ansetzen. Während beim reinen Informationsmanagement mit einem strukturell technischen und Datenbank basierten Ansatz ein gutes Leistungsniveau erreicht werden kann, trifft dies beim Wissensmanagement nicht zu. - Informations- versus Wissensmanagement - Die Problematik präsentiert sich vielschichtig (Abbildung). Einer der Haupttreiber ist die bereits erwähnte unterschiedliche Natur des "kristallinen" Informationsmanagements und des "fluiden" Wissensmanagements. Die Dynamik der kontinuierlichen Veränderung des Wissensschatzes eines Unternehmens ist es, was es so schwierig macht, strukturiert und systematisch damit umzugehen. Wollte man die Information in eine strukturierte Datenbank "packen", müsste man zum Zeitpunkt der Wissensgenerierung bereits alle zukünftigen Anwendungen und Relevanzen verstehen können und diese entsprechend beschreiben. Wegen dieser Charakteristik kann Wissensmanagement nicht auf einem Technik- und somit Informationsmanagement basierten Ansatz aufbauen, sondern muss experten- und personengetrieben sein, und somit von der Unternehmenskultur ausgehen. Bereits an der Missachtung dieses fundamentalen Unterschieds zwischen Informations- und Wissensmanagement scheitern heute viele unternehmerische Initiativen zum Aufbau eines schlagkräftigen Wissensmanagements. Wenn nun Wissensmanagement kultur- und unternehmensübergreifend eingesetzt wird, stellt sich die Frage, wie diese zusätzlichen Dimensionen erfasst und eingebunden werden können."
