    Abstract
    Seit den 60er Jahren wird die Fachinformation durch verschiedene Programme der Bundesregierung gefördert. Der Beitrag setzt sich mit den Initiativen und der Kritik an der Fachinformationspolitik in einem sich änderden Umfeld auseinander. In einem zweiten Teil wird auf die Struktur und wichtige Förderschwerpunkte des derzeitigen Programms 'Information als Rohstoff für Innovation (1996-2000)' eingegangen. Es werden kritische Erfolgsfaktoren herausgestellt und eine erste Zwischenbilanz in bezug auf das neue Programm gezogen.     Abstract
    Informationskompetenz hat sich in den letzten Jahren als wichtiges Teilgebiet des Bibliothekswesens etabliert. Der vorliegende Text gibt einen einführenden Überblick über Hintergrund und Entwicklung, Terminologie, Definitionen und Inhalte, Modelle und Standards sowie Vermittlungs- und Evaluationspraxis von Informationskompetenz im bibliothekarischen Kontext. Ein Blick auf Debatten und Kritik zeigt aber auch, dass sowohl Begriff wie Konzept in bibliothekarischen Fachkreisen keineswegs unumstritten sind.

    Abstract
    Das GMMIK (Gewichtetes modulares Modell der Informationskompetenz) versucht den aktuellen, veränderten Ansprüchen an die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz gerecht zu werden und insgesamt den Blick auf die Informationskompetenz zu erneuern. Die Modifikationen, die das GMMIK von den bestehenden IK-Modellen unterscheidet, betreffen einerseits Ergänzungen und Erweiterungen und andererseits die Betrachtungsweise auf das Konstrukt Kompetenz an sich. Die Aspekte "Quellenbewertung/-kritik" und "Informationsvernetzung/-verknüpfung" halten erstmals als eigenständige und entscheidende Säulen von Informationskompetenz Einzug in ein theoretisches Modell. Die Einbeziehung der Ethik ist eine weitere zentrale Neuerung im GMMIK. Der verantwortungsvolle Umgang mit Informationen ist untrennbarer Bestandteil informationskompetenten Handelns. Das Modell basiert auf einer Vision einer zeitlosen Definition von Informationskompetenz, in der sich jeder wieder finden kann und die jeden berücksichtigt.
