    Abstract
    Die jüngste Entwicklung deutet darauf hin, daß durch eine schnelle Verkableung aller Haushalte schon bald bis zu 36 Fernseh- und Rundfunkprogramme von den unterschiedlichsten Programmgestaltern möglich werden.     Zur Dokumentation und Klassifikation von mehr als 5.000 audiovisuellen Medien, die das Institut für Film und Bild in Wissenschaft und Unterricht (FWU) für den gesamten Bildungsbereich der Bundesrepublik herausgegeben hat, reichten bei Umstellung auf eine EDV-gestützte Datenbank bisherige Zuordnungssysteme nicht mehr aus. Unterrichtsfächern entsprechen, wurden von Fachpädagogen unter Berücksichtigung vorhandener Klassifikationen und EDV-technischer Möglichkeiten hierarchische gegliederte Fachsystematiken entwickelt, die durch frei wählbare, jedoch kontrollierte teilkategorisierte Schlagwörter ergänzt werden. Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Hierarchie-Ebenen mit etwa 1.000 Benennungen sowie der etwa 15.000 Schlagwörter werden aufgezeigt und die Anwendung dieses Klassifikationssystems zu variabel gestaltbaren Katalogen und zu differenzierten Retrievals wird erörtert
