    Abstract
A practical guide to the problems of using existing standards (ISBD) and formats (UNIMARC), indicating how specific zones and fields can be adapted to accomodate bibliographic details. Retrieving records instead of cataloguing inhouse is not at present a feasible option: of the 2 main suppliers of records on CD-ROM, one has only limited coverage and the other does not allow downloading

    Abstract
The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris - the interactive museum for science and technology which opened to the public in 1986 hosts a multimedia library holding some 330,000 documents. The small collection of CD-ROMs integrated into the library's collection since the end of 1991 (''Public section'' and the "Didacthèque") have been expanded in October 1996. Presently more than 800 titles are available for viewing on site or for circulation. After the brief background of CD-ROM installation and collections in French public libraries this paper discusses the problems of describing CD-ROMs in the online catalog. It mostly concentrates on the collection for circulation. The rules of bibliographic description correspond to the draft of the French national standard, which follows the ISBD(ER) principles. The format used for cataloguing in the library is UNIMARC and the automated system - GEAC GLIS. Cataloguing has been done locally since the national bibliographic description of electronic documents was not available at the time when the first collection was constituted. Since April 1997 the "Bibliographie nationale française" on CD-ROM provides the description for electronic documents whose downloading is now possible. This paper analyses the benefits of downloading of bibliographic records for ER and concludes that some local adaptation (updating) is necessary for satisfying end user needs

    Abstract
This paper discusses an innovative approach to teaching cataloguing. At Queensland University of Technology (QUT), students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Library and Information Studies were involved in an independent learning activity which aimed to develop LIS students' foundation knowledge of descriptive cataloguing, while simultaneously encouraging students to think critically about broader issues that would inevitably impact on their role as information professionals. In the self-study program, learning activities included an interactive multimedia CD-ROM and a printed workbook with exercises, augmented by the opportunity for group discussion in weekly tutorials to enable students to share key aspects of their independent learning. Students were asked to critically evaluate the CD-ROM and the workbook and also to develop their own professional views about the arguments for and against the inclusion of cataloguing in the LIS curriculum. The paper presents the outcomes of this pilot project.

    Abstract
Bibliofile is a CD-ROM cataloguing product that provides LC MARC records. Available databases include English only, foreign language materials, audio-visual materials, as well as several that are more specialized. Bibliofile runs on a PC that may be connected to a network. Advantages over an online utility include lower cost, no telecommunication problems, no slow response times, fixed subscription rates with no hourly use charges, easy installation, searching and editing and good phone support. Disadvantages include no member-contributed records and no member holdings to use for interlibrary loan. A library should consider type and level of materials catalogued, existence of an interface with a local OPAC, total cataloguing time used, and other sources for ILL searching when considering bibliofile as a cataloguing alternative

Comments on CD-ROM discs reviewed for the categories of Best Upgrades and Best Overall Multimedia in the Software Publishers Association Codies awards. Suggests that CD-ROM products are being produced with hard disk space requirements that are too high for the home market. Abstract
This book addresses RDA along with traditional examples of cataloguing like MARC, MODS, and Dublin Core. Streaming video, Internet sites, dual-disc DVDs, blogs and listservs are just some of the rapidly emerging, and often complicated, new resources covered in this current, easy-to-follow manual. Separate chapters are dedicated to each non-print and e-resource format, and include corresponding examples to help demonstrate practical implementation of these critical new skills. A companion CD-ROM contains fully-worked out examples, models and illustrations, and acts as an important visual guide to help reinforce key concepts. In addition, a companion website provides updates on changes in RDA and other cataloguing resources and practices; links to presentations, blog posts, etc; and a means to contact the authors with questions and feedback.

    Abstract
CD-ROMs are the most frequently seen varieties of digital geospatial data in map libraries. This article is an overview of how to catalog these CD-ROMs. It is to be used in concert with the Welch and Williams article which immediately precedes it.

    Abstract
Traces the background and development of CatSkill, the computer assisted learning (VAL) CD-ROM which proveds a complete course on the AACR2, 188 revision and 4 MARC coding schemes: ABN MARC, CanMARC, UKMARC and USMARC. This product was developed through a partnership of 2 Australian companies, DocMatrix Pty Ltd and Learning Curve Pty Ltd. Discusses the potential of CatSkill for paraprofessional and professional library training in library schools and for inhouse training. Outlines the future of CAL for both library technical training and for educating users to utilise library resources effectively

    Abstract
The Bibliothèque Nationale acquires about 45,000 non-French documents in roman script annually; these are cataloged online in the BN-OPALE database. A MARC format, INTERMARC, is used. Standards and format are consistent with international standards (ISBD, AACRZ, UNIMARC) so that conversion and loading of records from a CD-ROM network and from RLIN can be done without difficulty. In 1995 the Bibliothèque Nationale will become the Bibliothèque de France, housing in a new building books, periodicals, and audiovisual and electronic materials; Ule old building will maintain all other items (manuscripts, maps, engravings, coins, printed music, and materials on the prfomung arts). Then another computerized system wilh new abilities will replace the present one; Concerning cataloging, for example, there will be a project for linking bibliographic records to scanned summaries of books and to scanned documents.
