    Abstract
    Florian Rötzer hat in einem langen Gespräch mit Sahra Wagenknecht, aus dem das Buch "Couragiert gegen den Strom. Über Goethe, die Macht und die Zukunft!" hervorgegangen ist, u.a. darüber gesprochen, wie Kultur und philosophisches Denken die politischen Vorstellungen und den politischen Stil der linken Politikerin geprägt haben. Dabei ging es auch um den Kapitalismus und dessen Abschaffung, um den Kern linker Politik, die Konkurrenz in der Wirtschaft und auch über die Digitalisierung sowie die Ideen, mit einer Maschinensteuer oder einem bedingungslosen Grundeinkommen das Schlimmste zu verhindern. Telepolis veröffentlicht einen Auszug aus dem Buch, das im Westendverlag erschienen ist.

    Abstract
    Wie ist Fachinformation einzuschätzen? So richtig als Ware mit einem Markt, mit Produzenten, Anbietern, Händlern usw. Oder ist sie ein öffentliches Gut. Etwas was uns kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt werden sollte? Vor 20 Jahren hätten sich wohl die meisten von uns letzterer Ansicht angeschlossen, obwohl schon damals nur eine bestimmte Informationssorte (fast) kostenlos in Universitätsbibliotheken, Fachzeitschriften, usw. zur Verfügung stand. Heute hat sich die Situation grundsätzlich gewandelt. Dies ist sicherlich Ausdruck der gestiegenen Bedeutung von Information, dem Mehr an Information, das benötigt wird, um zum Beispiel ein Unternehmen in unserer komplexer gewordenen Welt erfolgreich zu führen. Es ist natürlich auch Ausdruck der Tatsache, daß neue Informationsarten wesentlich kurzfristiger zur Verfügung gestellt werden - denken wir nur an den großen Bereich der Fakteninformation - und daß dies wesentlich höhere Kosten verursacht als die früheren 'Darreichungsformen'. Nichtsdestotrotz hält sich hartnäckig der Gedanke, ob nicht vielleicht Fachinformation doch etwas sei, was zumindest sehr billig zu haben sein sollte. Aufschub erhält dieseer Gedanke seit kurzem durch die riesigen Informationsmengen, die per Internet quasi kostenfrei zur Verfügung stehen. Genau auf diesem aktuellem Hintergrund widmet sich der folgende Beitrag der Frage nach dem Charakter von Information: 'Ware oder öffentliches Gut'

    Abstract
    Zumeist denken wir uns den elektronischen Raum als ein rein technologisches Ereignis und in dieser Hinsicht als selbstgenügsam und neutral. Das ist aber nur teilweise richtig. In diesem kurzen Essay will ich zeigen, daß eine solche technologische Auffassung übersieht, wie sehr der elektronische Raum in eine größere Dynamik eingebettet ist, die eine Gesellschaft organisiert. Eingeschrieben in die Geographie seiner Infrastruktur und in die Struktur des Cyberspace, prägen den elektronischen Raum in gewissem Ausmaß Macht, Konzentration, Wettbewerb genauso wie Offenheit und Dezentralisierung. Zwar wissen wir mittlerweile, daß die spezifischen Eigenschaften des Internet teilweise das Ergebnis jener frühen Hacker-Kultur ist, deren Software die Offenheit und Dezentralisierung des Netzes zu stärken und universal verfügbar zu machen versuchte. Zugleich aber können wir in den letzten beiden Jahren, seit die Geschäftswelt das Netz entdeckt hat, deutlich ihre Versuche beobachten, es zu kommerzialisieren, z. B. durch Softwareentwicklungen, welche die Eigenschaften des Netzes ökonomisch ausnutzen sollen oder durch die Ausdehnung des Urheberrechts - und wir erkennen darin, mit anderen Worten, das genaue Gegenteil der frühen Hacker-Kultur.

    Virtuelle Orte konkurrieren zur Zeit erfolgreich mit traditionelleren, physischen Schauplätzen darum, Orte des Handels, der Banken, Büros, Orte der Unterhaltung, Bildung usw. zu sein. Dieser wachsende Konkurrenzkampf erzeugt einen radikal neuen Kontext für Architektur und Städtebau - eine neue Ökonomie der Präsenz. Wir denken normalerweise nicht in solchen Kategorien, aber Präsenz kostet Geld. Meistens kostet es Sie mehr (an Hotelkosten oder Büromieten zum Beispiel), an Orten präsent zu sein, wo viele Leute sein wollen, als an Orten, wo weniger Leute sein wollen. Und es kostet Sie Zeit und Mühe, an Orte zu gelangen, um Leute zu treffen, Geschäfte zu erledigen und Vorführungen zu besuchen. Am richtigen Ort zur richtigen Zeit sein, kann teuer werden. In der Vergangenheit bedeutete »präsent« sein, daß Ihr Körper da war, an einem bestimmten Ort, und daß Sie mit anderen, die auch da waren, von Angesicht zu Angesicht interagieren konnten. Jetzt ist elektronische Telepräsenz eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit. In Ihrem täglichen Leben müssen Sie dauernd unter verschiedenen Graden an Präsenz wählen und den verschiedenen Eigenschaften und Kosten, die damit verbunden sind. Mit anderen Worten, eine Ökonomie der Präsenz tritt in Erscheinung; innerhalb von ihr treffen Sie Entscheidungen unter verfügbaren Alternativen und teilen Ressourcen auf, um den Anforderungen gerecht zu werden, die an Sie gestellt werden, und um zu erreichen, was Sie wollen.
