    Abstract
    Eine kritische Diskussion über ihre Verlässlichkeit begleitet die Entwicklung der Wikipedia von Beginn an. Mittlerweile liegen einige Publikationen vor, die sich mit der Qualität dieser neuen Enzyklopädie befassen. In diesem Betrag wird ein kurzer Überblick über mehrere dieser Arbeiten gegeben. Anschließend werden zwei eigene Studien vorgestellt, die sich mit Qualitätsaspekten befassen, die bisher weniger berücksichtigt wurden. In der ersten Studie wird die Abdeckung eines gut umgrenzten Themenkomplexes - Shakespeare's Werk - in mehreren Wikipedias untersucht. Die zweite Studie befasst sich mit der Qualität der Wissensorganisation in der Wikipedia.

    Vgl. Hinweis in: Online-Mitteilungen 2007, Nr.91 [=Mitt. VOEB 60(2007) H.3], S.15: "Auf der Tagung "Herausforderung: Digitale Langzeitarchivierung - Strategien und Praxis europäischer Kooperation" welche vom 20. bis 21. April 2007 in der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek (Frankfurt am Main) stattfand, befassten sich die einzelnen Referentinnen nicht nur mit der Bewahrung des Kulturgutes, sondern u.a. auch mit der "Aufzeichnung der Welten". Wie man diese "Weltaufzeichnung" in Anbetracht der Fülle und stetigen Zunahme an Informationen zukünftig (noch) besser bewältigen kann, thematisierte Kim H. Veltman in seinem Vortrag. Er präsentierte dazu vier äußerst denkwürdige Ansätze: - Schaffung einerzentralen europäischen Instanz, welche die Gedächtnisinstitutionen über die neusten technologischen Entwicklungen informiert - Errichtung eines digitalen Referenzraums und einer virtuellen Agora innerhalb der Europäischen Digitalen Bibliothek - Gründung eines Instituts zur Wissensorganisation - Erforschen der Anforderungen für eine "Universal Digital Library"."

    Abstract
    Alon Friedman und Richard P. Smiraglia kündigen in ihrem aktuellen Artikel "Nodes and arcs: concept map, semiotics, and knowledge organization" an, eine "empirical demonstration of how the domain [of knowledge organisation] itself understands the meaning of a concept" durchzuführen. Die Klärung des Konzeptbegriffs ist ein begrüßenswertes Vorhaben, das die Autoren in einer empirischen Untersuchung von concept maps (also Konzeptdiagrammen) aus dem Bereich der Wissensorganisation nachvollziehen wollen. Beschränkte sich Friedman 2011 in seinem Artikel "Concept theory and semiotics in knowledge organization" [Fn 01] noch ausschließlich auf Sprache als Medium im Zeichenprozess, bezieht er sich nun auf Visualisierungen als Repräsentationsform und scheint somit seinen Ansatz um den Aspekt der Bildlichkeit zu erweitern. Zumindest erwartet man dies nach der Lektüre der Beschreibung des aktuellen Vorhabens von Friedman und Smiraglia, das - wie die Autoren verkünden - auf einer semiotischen Grundlage durchgeführt worden sei.

    Abstract
    Noch ist nicht entschieden mit welcher Vehemenz das sogenannte Web 2.0 die Bibliotheken verändern wird. Allerdings wird hier und da bereits mit Bezugnahme auf das sogenannte Semantic Web von einer dritten und mancherorts von einer vierten Generation des Web gesprochen.     Abstract
    Die E-LIB der SuUB Bremen arbeitet bereits seit 2004 als einheitlicher Katalog elektronischer und gedruckter Medien auf Basis von selbst entwickelter Suchmaschinentechnologie. Alle wesentlichen Medien und Dienste der Bibliothek werden unter einer Suchoberfläche angeboten, um die übliche heterogene Nachweissituation der verschiedenen Medientypen soweit wie möglich aufzulösen. Das Projekt verfolgt das Ziel, alle lokalen Bestände vor Ort und alle für Bremer Nutzer im Zugriff extern verfügbaren Medien in einem einzigen Retrievalsystem zur Verfügung zu stellen und neu entwickelte Verfahren zur Unterstützung von assoziativen Suchprozessen anzubieten. In dem von der Bibliothek kontrollierten Suchraum der Bremer E-LIB finden sich derzeit ca. 60 Mio. Nachweise - zu über 90% elektronische Volltexte.

    Abstract
    Der Workshop gibt einen Einblick in die aktuelle Forschung und Entwicklung zur Wissensorganisation in digitalen Bibliotheken. Diane Vizine-Goetz vom OCLC Office of Research in Dublin, Ohio, stellt die Forschungsprojekte von OCLC zur Anpassung und Weiterentwicklung der Dewey Decimal Classification als Wissensorganisationsinstrument fuer grosse digitale Dokumentensammlungen vor. Traugott Koch, NetLab, Universität Lund in Schweden, demonstriert die Ansätze und Lösungen des EU-Projekts DESIRE zum Einsatz von intellektueller und vor allem automatischer Klassifikation in Fachinformationsdiensten im Internet.

    In Zusammenarbeit mit der norwegischen Suchtechnologie-Firma Fast Search & Transfer hat die Universitätsbibliothek Bielefeld den Prototyp einer Suchmaschine für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken entwickelt. Dieser demonstriert jetzt mit dem öffentlichen Zugriff auf ausgewählte digitalisierte Sammlungen der Projektteilnehmer die neuen Möglichkeiten des akademischen Retrieval. <http://www.heise.de/RealMedia/ads/adstream_lx.ads/www.heise.de/newsticker/meldungen/wissenschaft/954604605/Middle1/he-test-contentads/zaehler.html/38363566383735383364653062323630?_RM_EMPTY_> Während kommerzielle Suchmaschinen wie Google oder Yahoo sich nicht an akademischen Kriterien orientieren, beschränkt sich die Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE ) auf die von wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken erschlossenen und aufbereiteten Inhalte. Dazu gehören Hochschulschriften, Preprints, elektronische Zeitschriften und digitale Sammlungen, wie beispielsweise die "Internet Library of Early Journals" des Oxford University Library Service und die "Wissenschaftlichen Rezensionsorgane und Literaturzeitschriften des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts aus dem deutschen Sprachraum" der UB Bielefeld. Wer etwa bei Google die Stichworte "Immanuel Kant" +Frieden eingibt, kommt zwar schnell an den Originaltext des Aufsatzes "Zum ewigen Frieden" heran, tut sich jedoch schwer, unter den bunt gemischten über 11.000 Treffern gezielt weiter zu recherchieren. Das BASE-Modell dagegen stellt dem Nutzer hierfür vielfältige Navigationshilfen und Metainformationen zur Verfügung. So erleichtert unter anderem die Verfeinerung der Suche auf das Erscheinungsjahr den Zugriff auf die zeitgenössische Diskussion der berühmten Schrift des Königsberger Philosophen. Derzeit ermöglicht der BASE-Prototyp das Retrieval in 15 verschiedenen Archivquellen. Darunter befinden sich die Zeitschriften der Aufklärung, die Elektronischen Dissertationen der Universität Bochum, das elektronische Journal Documenta Mathematica sowie die Mathematischen Volltexte des Springer-Verlags. Der geplante Ausbau soll sich auf eine verteilte Architektur stützen, in der von einzelnen Bibliotheken lokal erstellte Indexe gemeinsam zu einem virtuellen Master-Index beitragen. Dies würde dem Nutzer die nahtlose Navigation durch die verteilten Bestände erlauben."

    Abstract
    Die Digitalisierung des kulturellen Erbes in Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine rasant zunehmende Verfügbarkeit kultureller Inhalte im Web bewirkt - so hat die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SBB-PK) rund 170.000 Werke (Bücher, Zeitschriften, Zeitungen, Karten, Notenschriften etc.) aus ihrem reichhaltigen Bestand digitalisiert und über ein eigenes Online-Portal bereitgestellt (Stand Mai 2020). Noch deutlicher wird die immense Menge der durch die Digitalisierung entstandenen digitalen Kulturobjekte beim Blick auf die von Aggregatoren gebildeten Sammlungen - so beinhaltet die Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek etwa 33 Millionen Nachweise für Digitalisate aus Kultureinrichtungen (Stand Mai 2020), die europäische digitale Bibliothek Europeana weist knapp 60 Millionen digitalisierte Kulturobjekte nach (Stand Mai 2020).
