    Abstract
    Es gibt viele Wege der Selbstfindung, der Markt der Hilfsangebote ist unermesslich: Psychologische Ratgeber, Frauenzeitschriften, Trainingsseminare, Auslands-Crashkurse, Volkshochschulvorträge alle versprechen »den Weg zum Selbst«. Doch ist das Ziel, »ganz man selbst zu sein«, nicht nur schwer erreichbar, sondern eigentlich schlichte Unmöglichkeit? Jean-Claude Kaufmann provoziert »Selbstfindungsgetriebene« mit der These, dass es gar kein klar definierbares ICH geben kann: Niemals und selbst nach noch so intensiven Bemühungen haben wir ein unveränderliches »wahres« Selbst in uns. Stattdessen weist unsere Identität unendlich viele Facetten auf und wandelt sich ständig, ohne dass wir uns dessen bewusst wären. Dabei erfinden wir uns permanent selbst und sind in unseren Veränderungen stark durch unsere soziale Herkunft und unser Umfeld beeinflusst. Jean-Claude Kaufmann erklärt, warum und wie wir uns verändern. Dabei konzentriert sich der französische Klassiker populärer Soziologie auf ganz präzise Momente: Auf die, in denen ICH ein ANDERER wird.     Abstract
    The study of interhuman communication requires a more complex framework than Claude E. Shannon's (1948) mathematical theory of communication because "information" is defined in the latter case as meaningless uncertainty. Assuming that meaning cannot be communicated, we extend Shannon's theory by defining mutual redundancy as a positional counterpart of the relational communication of information. Mutual redundancy indicates the surplus of meanings that can be provided to the exchanges in reflexive communications. The information is redundant because it is based on "pure sets" (i.e., without subtraction of mutual information in the overlaps). We show that in the three-dimensional case (e.g., of a triple helix of university-industry-government relations), mutual redundancy is equal to mutual information (Rxyz = Txyz); but when the dimensionality is even, the sign is different. We generalize to the measurement in N dimensions and proceed to the interpretation. Using Niklas Luhmann's (1984-1995) social systems theory and/or Anthony Giddens's (1979, 1984) structuration theory, mutual redundancy can be provided with an interpretation in the sociological case: Different meaning-processing structures code and decode with other algorithms. A surplus of ("absent") options can then be generated that add to the redundancy. Luhmann's "functional (sub)systems" of expectations or Giddens's "rule-resource sets" are positioned mutually, but coupled operationally in events or "instantiated" in actions. Shannon-type information is generated by the mediation, but the "structures" are (re-)positioned toward one another as sets of (potentially counterfactual) expectations. The structural differences among the coding and decoding algorithms provide a source of additional options in reflexive and anticipatory communications.

    Abstract
    An intuitive understanding of information concerns the means by which knowledge is acquired. This notion corresponds to an instantiation of the complementary properties of 'being informative' and 'being informed'. It is in this intuitive sense that the term 'information' is used in many accounts of verbal communication and explicit learning. But the term is furthermore prominent in accounts of genetics, neurobiology and cognitive science, as well as in communications engineering, and computer sciences. In view of this transdisciplinary use of the word 'information', some theoreticians hope for a unified conception that would serve as a common denominator in interdisciplinary investigations. According to this promise, we would then be equipped with a singular conceptional grasp on physical and genetic structures, on neuronal patterns as well as on cognitive and communicative events. Unfortunately, a unified concept of information is far from being spelled out, since many of the disciplines mentioned above follow quite different approaches. Even in the context of 'information science' itself, extensive differences prevail on the notions of data, information and knowledge and their conceptual interconnections. But if we detect not a single but various conceptions of information, we should not expect a single but various theories of information - a point made by Claude Shannon long before the transdisciplinary implementation of his mathematical theory. When one or the other 'theory of information' gets implemented into theories of communication or learning, for example, these theories thereby inherit one particular conception of information.

    Abstract
    An argument that information exists at different levels of analysis-syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic-and an exploration of the implications. Although this is the Information Age, there is no universal agreement about what information really is. Different disciplines view information differently; engineers, computer scientists, economists, linguists, and philosophers all take varying and apparently disconnected approaches. In this book, Antonio Badia distinguishes four levels of analysis brought to bear on information: syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, and network-based. Badia explains each of these theoretical approaches in turn, discussing, among other topics, theories of Claude Shannon and Andrey Kolomogorov, Fred Dretske's description of information flow, and ideas on receiver impact and informational interactions. Badia argues that all these theories describe the same phenomena from different perspectives, each one narrower than the previous one. The syntactic approach is the more general one, but it fails to specify when information is meaningful to an agent, which is the focus of the semantic and pragmatic approaches. The network-based approach, meanwhile, provides a framework to understand information use among agents. Badia then explores the consequences of understanding information as existing at several levels. Humans live at the semantic and pragmatic level (and at the network level as a society), computers at the syntactic level. This sheds light on some recent issues, including "fake news" (computers cannot tell whether a statement is true or not, because truth is a semantic notion) and "algorithmic bias" (a pragmatic, not syntactic concern). Humans, not computers, the book argues, have the ability to solve these issues.

    Geistiges Eigentum ist durch eine bemerkenswerte Charakteristik gekennzeichnet. Es kann nur durch die Zurverfügungstellung und allgemeine Veröffentlichung erreicht werden. Historisch betrachtet konnte man immaterielle Eigentumsrechte nicht erwerben, wenn man keinen Verleger fand. Erst in den letzten Jahren wurde es sehr einfach, durch die Veröffentlichung unseres Wissens im Internet, zu geistigem Eigentum zu gelangen. Die Ursache für diese Eigenschaft geistigen Eigentums ist die Informationstheorie, in der Informationen in beliebiger Menge zu Redundanz kopiert werden kann. An dieser Stelle spielen die Verlage noch immer eine wichtige Rolle, durch ihre Anzeige ausgewählter Immaterialgüterrechte von Autoren oder Interessengruppen.
