    Abstract
Considers issues surrounding cataloguing electronic resources on the MELVYL online system at the University of California, USA. Considers implications of the differences between online and paper versions of serials, difficulties in providing precises information on holdings of full text articles, cataloguing rules changes that are need to integrate MARC formats, adding URLs as a subfield, archiving electronic journals and restricting access to electronic materials

    Abstract
The authors describe the creation of online series authority records on the University of Florida Libraries' NOTIS-based LUIS system. It is an original method that uses serial bibliographic records as a basis for series authority records. We hope that our explanation of this pioneering method will be useful in varying degrees to other libraries attempting to convert their series authorities to an online environment. We also hope that this paper will prompt discussion among catalogers about series authorities in the online environment.

    Abstract
Defines the concept of creativity of cataloguing. Creativity presupposes thorough knowledge of cataloguing rules and standards. The goal of creative cataloguing is to adapt records in order to enhance user access to information in the library database. Using examples from various types of serial records, discusses creative cataloguing methods in the online environment

    Abstract
The authority controlled headings in a random sample of cataloguing records from RLIN member libraries were examined to determine the extent to which they either matched the forms a sestablished in RLIN's online authority files or, in cases where no headings existed in the files, had been formulated according to AACR2R principles and LoC guidelines. The study analzed all of the authority controlled access points in the records sample to determine the extent to ehich these access points matched the LoC Name Authority File (LoC NAF) and LoC Subject Authority File (LoC SAF) entries; it sought to determine which types of errors occured most frequently in instances where access points did not match the NAF and SAF files; and used the results of this analysis to add data to a list of preferred libraries kept by the Monograph Cataligng Section of the New York Public Library and used to increase the speed and efficiency of its copy cataloguing work flow

    Abstract
Reports results of a questionnaire survey of cataloguers, conducted over the AUTOCAT Internet discussion group, to determine those areas of cataloguing for which the Internet is a valuable tool and those areas for which it is not as useful. Respondents indicated 4 areas in which cataloguers use the Internet: searching the OPACs of other libraries, communicating with colleagues, accessing online cataloguing documentation and publications, and authority work. Cataloguers who found access to other libraries' OPACs did so for the following reasons: assigning call numbers and subject headings; finding full cataloguing copy from other libraries; enriching their local catalogue with notes present in records in other libraries; finding copy for foreign language items that cannot be read by library staff; and resolving difficult problems when important parts of the item are missing ar are in disarray. Some cataloguers also related processes for which they have found the Internet to not be efficient

    Abstract
LIAS, the Pennsylvania State University's (Penn State) integrated interactive online system, provides for messaging by the user to inform library staff of errors found in bibliographic records. The message is sent by use of the OOPS command, and results in a printout which is used by processing staff for online catalog maintenance. This article describes LIAS, the use of the OOPS command, the processing of the resulting OOPS reports, an assessment of the effect of its use, and some speculation on the expansion of the LIAS message system for use in catalog maintenance.

    Abstract
The University of Pennsylvania Library and the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Research Unit at Cambridge University Library in England have embarked on a project to digitize their joint holdings of manuscript fragments from the Cairo Genizah. One goal of this collaboration is to develop and implement an online catalog and image database for the University of Pennsylvania's collection of Genizah fragments, which will provide the foundation for a global electronic repository and catalog of the entire Cairo Genizah. The project staffs have developed preliminary guidelines for standardized descriptive metadata. The authors discuss the issues and difficulties specific to cataloging these fragments, how an online catalog can facilitate this ambitious task, and why MARC tagging was adopted for this purpose.

    Abstract
The concept of the main entry has lost any meaningful purpose in today's online cataloging environment, despite a multiplicity of definitions. To bring current cataloging tools up-to-date, AACR2 chapter 21 and the MARC format need to be revised. The revision of AACR2 is based on four tenets: (1) minor and repetitive word changes to the text, (2) the removal of the concept of primary responsibility from the rules, (3) the elimination of all rules concerning corporate main entry, and (4) the integration of the added entry rules into the main portion of the text. Updating the MARC format includes the obsolescence of the IXX fields while altering the 7XX fields to indicate former main entries and from which entry the work in hand was Cuttered.
