    Abstract
    Dieser Band gibt einen Überblick über 500 Jahre deutsche Buchhandelsgeschichte, über das Schreiben, Herstellen, Verkaufen und Lesen von Büchern. Angesprochen werden nicht nur Fachleute, sondern alle, die Interesse an Büchern und Literatur haben. Buchhandelsgeschichte bedeutet für Wittmann nicht nur eine Geschichte der (Sortiments-)Buchhandlungen. Buchhandel meint hier die Gesamtprozesse der Vermittlung von geistigem Kulturgut eines Autors über die materielle Speicherung dieses geistigen Produkts in Form von Büchern, die Finanzierung und Verbreitung durch Verlage und Sortimentsbuchhandlungen bis hin zum Leser. Wittmann teilt das von ihm behandelte halbe Jahrtausend seit Erfindung des Buchdrucks in zwölf Epochen auf und geht in jedem seiner Kapitel eben nicht nur auf Fragen der Herstellung und Verbreitung von Büchern ein (also die eigentliche Druck-, Verlags- und Buchhandelsgeschichte), sondern stellt auch jeweils fundierte Reflexionen über das Bild und die Rolle von Autoren sowie die Erwartungshaltungen, Vorlieben und Kenntnisse der Leser an. Dieser weite Blickwinkel bedingt natürlich, dass das dargebotenen Material für die jeweiligen Epochen nicht sehr ausführlich sein kann. Wittmann beschränkt sich häufig auf prägnante Beispiele für die jeweiligen Forschungsperspektiven. Seine Vorgehensweise bietet jedoch andererseits einen großen Vorteil: Dieses Buch ist eine interessante Lektüre nicht nur für Leute, die sich direkt für Buchhandelsgeschichte interessieren, sondern auch für solche, die einen Blick auf den Wandel des Autoren- und Leserbildes in der deutschen Gesellschaft der letzten 500 Jahre werfen wollen.

    Abstract
    Als Erfinder des «Allgemeinen» gilt, gemäß dem Bericht des Aristoteles und seit diesem Bericht, Sokrates. Er ist es, der nicht mehr danach suchte, woraus ein Ding zu dem geworden ist, was es ist, oder wie es entstanden ist, sondern danach, «was [ein Ding] ist», und somit ist Sokrates der erste gewesen, der die Herausarbeitung des Allgemeinen (?a?????) forderte und mit seinen Fragen seine Gesprächspartner zu dieser Herausarbeitung trieb bzw. lockte; die Definition (???sµ??) war das Ziel des sokratischen Gesprächs, und die sokratische Aporie war das Vehikel.

    Abstract
    Das Historische Wörterbuch der Philosophie (HWPh), im Zeitraum von 1971 bis 2007 unter Mitwirkung von mehr als 1500 Fachgelehrten entstanden, ist eines der umfassendsten, bedeutendsten und auch erfolgreichsten Publikationsprojekte der jüngeren deutschsprachigen Geisteswissenschaften. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Lexika oder Enzyklopädien basiert das HWPh nicht auf einer Geschichte philosophischer Ideen oder Probleme, sondern auf der Geschichte der philosophischen Begriffe. In 12 Textbänden sowie einem abschliessenden Registerband dokumentiert das Lexikon in 17144 Spalten und rund 6000 Artikeln anhand zahlreicher präziser Belege und Stellenangaben Herkunft und Genese von insgesamt 3670 philosophischen Begriffen und beschreibt den Wandel ihrer Bedeutung und Funktion von ihrem ersten Auftreten bis heute. Das Konzept der begriffsgeschichtlichen Methode macht sowohl synchronisch Stellung und Bedeutung einzelner Begriffe in bestimmten Epochen oder bei bestimmten Philosophinnen und Philosophen als auch diachronisch deren Bedeutungsveränderungen innerhalb der abendländischen Philosophiegeschichte nachvollziehbar. Um die spezifisch philosophische Begriffsarbeit im Kontext des gesamten Wissenschaftssystems zu veranschaulichen, werden zudem auch Begriffe aus angrenzenden Fachgebieten - Theologie, Psychologie, Pädagogik, Soziologie, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte, Politik, Jurisprudenz, Medizin sowie aus den Naturwissenschaften - behandelt.

    Abstract
    Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

    Abstract
    Werden Maschinen mit Begriffen beschrieben, die ursprünglich der Beschreibung des Menschen dienen, so liegt zunächst der Verdacht nahe, dass jene Maschinen spezifischmenschliche Fähigkeiten oder Eigenschaften besitzen. Für körperliche Fähigkeiten, die mechanisch nachgeahmt werden, hat sich in der Alltagssprache eine anthropomorphisierende Sprechweise bereits etabliert. So wird kaum in Frage gestellt, dass bestimmte Maschinen weben, backen, sich bewegen oder arbeiten können. Bei nichtkörperlichen Eigenschaften, etwa kognitiver, sozialer oder moralischer Art sieht dies jedoch anders aus. Dass mittlerweile intelligente und rechnende Maschinen im alltäglichen Sprachgebrauch Eingang gefunden haben, wäre jedoch undenkbar ohne den langjährigen Diskurs über Künstliche Intelligenz, welcher insbesondere die zweite Hälfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts geprägt hat. In jüngster Zeit ist es der Autonomiebegriff, welcher zunehmend Verwendung zur Beschreibung neuer Technologien findet, wie etwa "autonome mobile Roboter" oder "autonome Systeme". Dem Begriff nach rekurriert die "Autonomie" jener Technologien auf eine bestimmte Art technologischen Fortschritts, die von der Fähigkeit zur Selbstgesetzgebung herrührt. Dies wirft aus philosophischer Sicht jedoch die Frage auf, wie die Selbstgesetzgebung in diesem Fall definiert ist, zumal sich der Autonomiebegriff in der Philosophie auf die politische oder moralische Selbstgesetzgebung von Menschen oder Menschengruppen beziehungsweise ihre Handlungen bezieht. Im Handbuch Robotik hingegen führt der Autor geradezu beiläufig die Bezeichnung "autonom" ein, indem er prognostiziert, dass "[.] autonome Roboter in Zukunft sogar einen Großteil der Altenbetreuung übernehmen werden."

    Abstract
    Vorgestellt wird die Konstruktion eines thematisch geordneten Thesaurus auf Basis der Sachschlagwörter der Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) unter Nutzung der darin enthaltenen DDC-Notationen. Oberste Ordnungsebene dieses Thesaurus werden die DDC-Sachgruppen der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek. Die Konstruktion des Thesaurus erfolgt regelbasiert unter der Nutzung von Linked Data Prinzipien in einem SPARQL Prozessor. Der Thesaurus dient der automatisierten Gewinnung von Metadaten aus wissenschaftlichen Publikationen mittels eines computerlinguistischen Extraktors. Hierzu werden digitale Volltexte verarbeitet. Dieser ermittelt die gefundenen Schlagwörter über Vergleich der Zeichenfolgen Benennungen im Thesaurus, ordnet die Treffer nach Relevanz im Text und gibt die zugeordne-ten Sachgruppen rangordnend zurück. Die grundlegende Annahme dabei ist, dass die gesuchte Sachgruppe unter den oberen Rängen zurückgegeben wird. In einem dreistufigen Verfahren wird die Leistungsfähigkeit des Verfahrens validiert. Hierzu wird zunächst anhand von Metadaten und Erkenntnissen einer Kurzautopsie ein Goldstandard aus Dokumenten erstellt, die im Online-Katalog der DNB abrufbar sind. Die Dokumente vertei-len sich über 14 der Sachgruppen mit einer Losgröße von jeweils 50 Dokumenten. Sämtliche Dokumente werden mit dem Extraktor erschlossen und die Ergebnisse der Kategorisierung do-kumentiert. Schließlich wird die sich daraus ergebende Retrievalleistung sowohl für eine harte (binäre) Kategorisierung als auch eine rangordnende Rückgabe der Sachgruppen beurteilt.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

    Abstract
    Gesellschaftliche Kommunikation stützt sich seit beinahe 3000 Jahren auf Bibliotheken und ihre Vorformen. Informationen, die unverfälscht zur Verfügung stehen sollen, werden seit der Erfindung und Verbreitung der Schrift auf den verschiedenen Trägermedien gespeichert und in Bibliotheken gesammelt, aufbewahrt, geordnet, bereitgestellt und vermittelt. In der jüngsten Zeit hat die Popularisierung der digitalen Medien die Informationskultur zu verändern begonnen: Bei vielen ist der Irrglaube entstanden, mit dem Internet stehe ein Medium zur Verfügung, das den Zugang zu allen Informationen von jedem Ort aus eröffne; so werden Bibliotheken mitunter als Fossilien der Gutenberg-Ära angesehen. Mit diesem Band wollen die Autoren belegen, dass professionelles Informationsmanagement in der Informationsgesellschaft wichtiger ist denn je. Darüber hinaus wollen sie unter Beweis stellen, dass Bibliotheken und bibliothekarische Techniken sich hervorragend dafür eignen - vorausgesetzt allerdings, die nötigen Innovationen und Kooperationen werden zügig eingeleitet und konsequent praktiziert.

Oberhauser): "Dieses Buch ist nicht als Neuauflage, sondern als Nachfolger des bekannten Werks von Busse/Ernestus zu sehen, das in seiner letzten Auflage (1999) bereits federführend von den Autoren Plassmann und Seefeldt verfasst wurde. Der nunmehr vorgelegte Band - man beachte auch den veränderten Titel (und Untertitel) - stammt von einem vierköpfigen Autoren-team. Die Verfasser kommen aus den bibliotheks- und informationswissenschaftlichen Instituten der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Engelbert Plassmann, Konrad Umlauf) bzw. der Fachhochschule Köln (Hermann Rösch) und aus dem Bereich der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken (Jürgen Seefeldt, Landesbibliothekszentrum Rheinland-Pfalz). Das 2006 erschienene Buch wurde bereits mehrfach rezensiert, sodass die vorliegende Besprechung trotz Umfang und Bedeutung des Werkes nicht episch auszufallen braucht. In diesen Besprechungen war die Resonanz - sieht man von dem (teilweise unhaltbaren) Genörgel in ProLibris ab - über wiegend positiv, nach meinem Dafürhalten durchaus zu recht. So meint Ute Schwens, den Verfassern sei es "gelungen, eine komplexe Materie lesbar darzustellen und aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln ein facettenreiches Bild zusammenzusetzen", Peter Vodosek spricht von "geschickt aufbereitete[r] Information, ideen- und faktenreich [.] kohärent dargeboten", Dieter Schmidmaier nennt den Band eine "Bereicherung der bibliotheks- und informationswissenschaftlichen Literatur". Dem kann ich mich voll anschließen, nicht so ganz dagegen der Meinung, das Buch sei vor allem für die Zielgruppe der Studierenden (Schmidmaier bzw. auch das Autorenteam) oder "für den Start ins Berufsleben" (Schwens) geeignet. Ich denke, dass es dafür in vielen Abschnitten bereits zuviel an Wissen und (bibliothekarischer) Erfahrung voraussetzt. Obwohl es gut geschrieben und gut lesbar ist, ist dies kein leicht zu lesendes Buch (wie selbst Schmidmaier konzediert). Eine richtige Einführung hätte viel umfangreicher, vielfach weiter ausholend, didaktisch erläuternd usw. geraten müssen - dann hätte sie aber keiner verlegt, gekauft und gelesen. So ist das eben. Dennoch: Jene, die sich im Bereich der Bibliotheks- und Informationswelt (Deutschlands) bereits ganz gut auskennen, werden wohl ungleich mehr von diesem Werk profitieren (falls sie es tatsächlich lesen) als blutige Anfänger (die dies als "Studis" vielleicht tun müssen).
    Zu Aufbau und Inhalt: In einer Einleitung werden die grundsätzlichen Positionen der Verfasser offengelegt. Diese sind vor allem: eine von der Systemtheorie Luhmanns geprägte (und gelegentlich dessen Fachjargon evozierende) soziologische Perspektive, das Verständnis einer integrativen Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, eine als modern zu bezeichnende historische Perspektive, sowie das Bestreben, neue Wege zu gehen und Aussagen von längerfristiger Gültigkeit zu treffen. Darauf folgen acht Kapitel Inhalt, ein neuntes als Zusammenschau und Schlusswort, ein Literaturverzeichnis, ein Verzeichnis der Internet-Adressen (leider ohne Datumsangaben), ein Abkürzungsverzeichnis sowie ein (gutes) Sachregister. Alle Kapitel sind wohl strukturiert und jeweils mit einem abschließenden "Ausblick» versehen. Behandelt werden: - die begrifflichen Grundlagen von Information und Bibliothek sowie die historischen/soziologischen Entwicklungslinien (Kapitel 1), - die strukturellen Entwicklungen der deutschen Bibliotheken hin zum funktional differenzierten Bibliothekssystem sowie die technischen Entwicklungen (Kapitel 2), - das deutsche Bibliothekswesen mit der Darstellung von Träger- und Förderinstitutionen, der Arten/Typen von Bibliotheken und ihrer rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen (Kapitel 3), - Netze und Kooperationen, d.h. im einzelnen Verbände, Partner/Förderer des Bibliothekswesens, internationale und nationale Zusammenarbeit, insbesondere im Rahmen von Erwerbung, Erschließung, Benutzung, sowie die Entwicklungen hin zu einem nationalen Wissenschaftsportal (Kapitel 4), - die zahlreichen im Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen relevanten Normen, Standards, Richtlinien und Empfehlungen (Kapitel 5), - die von den Bibliotheken gebotenen - klassischen wie neuartigen - Dienstleistungen, insbesondere auch moderne (digitale) Formen von Informations- und Auskunftsdiensten (Kapitel 6), - Management (Marketing, Aufbau, Personal, Controlling, Werbung/PR) und insbesondere Bestandsmanagement (Kapitel 7), sowie - Ausbildungs- und Berufsfragen, von den Anfängen der Professionali-sierung im 19.     Abstract
    Die Deutsche Nationalbibliografie hat eine Geschichte hinter sich, die wohl einzigartig, aber eben auch typisch für Deutschland ist: Sie wurde erstmals 1931 veröffentlicht, herausgegeben von der Deutschen Bücherei Leipzig, die 1913 ihren Betrieb als die zentrale deutsche Archivbibliothek aufnahm. Sie erschien in den Reihen A (Neuerscheinungen des Buchhandels) sowie B (Neuerscheinungen außerhalb des Buchhandels), zeitgleich übernahm die Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig die Bearbeitung des »Halbjahresverzeichnisses der Neuerscheinungen des Deutschen Buchhandels« sowie des »Deutschen Bücherverzeichnisses«. Nach der Teilung Deutschlands wurde 1947 die Deutsche Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main gegründet, bereits am 12. Dezember 1946 war Redaktionsschluss für das erste Heft der »Bibliographie der Deutschen Bibliothek, Frankfurt am Main«. Damit existierten in Deutschland zwei Bibliotheken, die die jeweilige Aufgabenstellung und Funktion einer Nationalbibliothek für die spätere DDR und die Bundesrepublik übernahmen; es erschienen zwei nationalbibliografischeVerzeichnisse, die inhaltlich nahezu identisch waren. Nach der Vereinigung der beiden Bibliotheken einschließlich des Deutschen Musikarchivs Berlin zu der Einrichtung »Die Deutsche Bibliothek« erschien am 3. Januar 1991 das erste Heft der neuen, gemeinsamen »Deutschen Nationalbibliographie und Bibliographie der im Ausland erschienenen deutschsprachigen Veröffentlichungen«. Sie setzt sich aus Allgemeinund Spezialbibliografien zusammen, die in Reihen gegliedert sind und unterschiedliche Berichtszeiträume haben. Die gedruckte Ausgabe in Heftform sowie die CD-Rom-Ausgaben werden von der MVB Marketingund Verlagsservice des Buchhandels GmbH verlegt. Zusätzlich bietet Die Deutsche Bibliothek die Daten über ihre Zentralen bibliografischen Dienstleistungen an. Mit der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie erfüllt sie ihre durch das »Gesetz über die Deutsche Bibliothek« definierte Pflicht zur umfassenden Dokumentation des deutschen Schrifttums. So ist der Stand 2003. Im Hinblick auf neue Kommunikationstechnologien, die Verfügbarkeit von Netzen und nicht zuletzt im Spiegel der internationalen Entwicklung hat Die Deutsche Bibliothek seit geraumer Zeit Überlegungen angestellt, wie sie künftig ihren gesetzlichen Auftrag zur bibliografischen Verzeichnung erfüllen kann. Das wird zu entscheidenden Veränderungen führen, die ab 2004 wirksam werden.

    Abstract
    Ein Buch ist ein Buch ist ein Buch. Bücher sind Informationsträger, kulturelle Identitätsträger und Kultobjekte. Sie werden geschrieben, gelesen und gesammelt, katalogisiert, klassifiziert, rezensiert. Das Buch ist eine der Säulen der abendländischen Zivilisation. Seit sich unbedarften Beobachtern das Ende der Gutenberg-Galaxie anzubahnen scheint, ist auch das öffentliche Interesse am Buch gestiegen. Nikolaus Wegmann hat sich in seiner kürzlich erschienenen Habilitationsschrift mit dem Suchen und Finden von Büchern beschäftigt und dabei eine breite Palette von Themen gestreift: Von der Bibliothek als Moloch und Mülldeponie über die Bedeutung von Katalogen bis hin zur poststrukturalistischen Literaturtheorie reicht sein Spektrum. Die Bibliothek, so lesen wir, ist nicht nur «simpler Einstellplatz für Bücher», sondern eine «hochkomplexe technische Installation, in der sich epistemologische, soziale wie politische und zunehmend auch kommerzielle Elemente bündeln». Doch wie kann die Bibliothek diese Funktionen heute alle wahrnehmen, wenn in den ersten 450 Jahren nach der Einführung des Buchdruckes durch Johannes Gutenberg rund 10 Millionen Bücher gedruckt wurden, zurzeit aber jedes Jahr eine Million erscheinen, die in den Regalen der Bibliotheken gesammelt und katalogisiert werden sollten? Was also soll in der Bibliothek gesammelt werden? Ausserdem: Wie lässt sich das Gesammelte wieder finden? Wegmann beschreibt nicht die bibliothekswissenschaftlichen oder informationswissenschaftlichen Debatten, die in letzten Jahren zu dieser Frage geführt wurden, sondern er untersucht die kulturwissenschaftliche Praxis von Buchmenschen quer durch die Geschichte. Das ist ein neuer und anregender Ansatz. Sein Buch hebt sich damit wohltuend ab von der Flut bibliothekswissenschaftlicher Elaborate, die mehr oder weniger geistreich das Ende der Gutenberg-Galaxie bejammern. Wegmann interpretiert viele Themen gegen den Strich, argumentiert nicht selten originell und mit einem breiten Wissen. Nicht immer ist dem Leser der rote Faden der Untersuchung präsent, zu oft plaudert Wegmann einige Seiten lang über Nebensächlichkeiten und Details. Doch ist nicht gerade dies - Lektüre als vom Autor geplante Reise des Lesers - der Vorzug des Buches?
