Er versteht sich als "Gesamtarchiv des deutschsprachigen Schrifttums". Der Sachkatalog ist ein Gruppenschlagwortkatalog, der die Titel aller in der Deutschen Bibliothek vorhandenen Bücher, Broschüren, Zeitschriften und Hochschulschriften umfaßt. - In 151 Schachteln wird der älteste große Schlagwortkatalog der Welt aufbewahrt: der "Schrettinger-Katalog". Von 1819 bis 1856 haben die Bibliothekare Martin Schrettinger und Heinrich Foringer rund 84.000 Titel der damaligen Münchner Hofbibliothek alphabetisch nach Themen geordnet und handschriftlich auf 17.000 Folioblättern notiert. - Abstract
- Sprachliche Diskriminierungen bilden sich auf verschiedenen Ebenen im Schlagwortkatalog ab. In unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen finden wir sie sowohl in den Normdaten als auch in der Schlagwortfolge. Ziel des Aufsatzes ist es, die bibliothekarische Inhaltserschließung als soziale Praxis in einen theoretischen Bezugsrahmen einzubetten, um sie einer fundierten Kritik zugänglich zu machen.
