    Abstract
    Auf dem Hintergrund der aktuellen OPAC-Entwicklung in Deutschland werden im ersten Teil einzelne Aspekte des OPAC-Designs kommentiert. Es wird u.a. auch auf Möglichkeiten einer Standardisierung der Schnittstelle Retrieval-Software / Benutzeroberfläche eingegangen. Die derzeit dominierenden Online-Kataloge sind für eine Massenbenutzung nur bedingt geeignet, da sie in hohem Maße fehlerintolerant sind, eine Analyse nach Suchfeldern verlangen und mit grundsätzlichen Mängeln der Boole'schen Suchlogik behaftet sind. Im zweiten Teil werden werden Alternativen diskutiert, zum einen in Form eines alphabetisch sortierten Online-Katalogs, zum anderen in Form intelligenter bibliographischer Auskunftssysteme, die Ähnlichkeitssuchen bzw. sog.     Abstract
    Die vorliegenden Ausführungen versuchen Antworten zu geben, auf die zentrale Frage der sich entwickelnden Informationsgesellschaft: Welche Konzepte beschreibt der Begriff 'Elektronische Bibliothek' im Jahr 1996 für Nutzer und Anbieter von Informationsangeboten im Internet? Hierbei ist von Bedeutung, daß die virtuelle Bibliothek Internet bereits heute ein erhebliches Informationspotential besitzt, das jedoch gegenwärtig noch nicht adäquat genutzt werden kann. Um diese Situation zu verbessern und zu optimieren, müssen einheitliche Nutzungskonzepte entwickelt und implementiert werden. Bei der Diskussion dieser Frage dürfen auch und gerade Bibliotheken nicht vergessen werden, da sie neben der virteullen Bibliothek Internet selbst und neben Internet-basierten Informationssystemen eine zentrale Rolle spielen

    Abstract
    Die UB Bielefeld wird ihren Fachreferenten in Kürze ein im Rahmen des DFG-Projekts 'SWD und Fachreferentensystem' entwickeltes Arbeitsinstrument für die Sacherschließung zur Verfügung stellen, das auch von anderen Bibliotheken nachgenutzt werden kann. Es unterstützt u.a. den Vorgang der Verschlagwortung von der Auswahl der Schlagwörter bis zur Kettenbildung. Hierzu wird die SWD auf der basis des Diskettendienstes der Deutschen Bibliothek als lokale Datenbank komfortabel suchbar gespeichert. Essentielle Funktionen einer Thesaurussoftware sind implementiert. Auch andere Formen verbaler Sacherschließung werden unterstützt
