- Abstract
- Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

- Abstract
- Mit der ersten Auflage von Basiswissen RDA lag erstmals ein deutschsprachiges Lehrbuch für das neue, internationale Katalogisierungsregelwerk RDA (Resource Description and Access) vor. Seither wurde nicht nur das Regelwerk selbst an vielen Stellen verändert, sondern auch die deutschsprachigen Anwendungsrichtlinien wurden erheblich erweitert und verfeinert - nicht zuletzt aufgrund der Praxiserfahrungen seit dem Beginn der aktiven Katalogisierung mit RDA. Die überarbeitete und erweiterte Neuauflage - präsentiert die Katalogisierungsregeln auf dem aktuellen Stand von 2017 - bietet an vielen Stellen zusätzliche Details und Erläuterungen - geht besonders auf typische Fragen und Probleme ein, die beim Katalogisieren mit RDA auftreten - wurde um Beispiele und Erklärungen für verschiedene Themenbereiche erweitert (u.a. Reproduktionen, E-Books, Sprachkurse) - behandelt auch das neue theoretische Modell IFLA LRM und die geplante Weiterentwicklung von RDA Die zweite Auflage von Basiswissen RDA ist ein unverzichtbarer Begleiter für Studierende, Auszubildende und Beschäftigte in Bibliotheken, die mit RDA arbeiten. Das Lehrbuch unterstützt nicht nur beim Anfertigen von korrekten Katalogisaten, sondern auch dabei, das neue Regelwerk zu verstehen.

- Abstract
- Befindet sich die Informationswissenschaft in der Krise? Die Krise der Informationswissenschaft ist durch institutionelle Schließungen, mangelhaften Zusammenhalt und geringe Sichtbarkeit in Politik und Öffentlichkeit gekennzeichnet. Führende Informationswissenschaftler diskutieren, ob die Informationswissenschaft ein neues Paradigma braucht. Sie stellen sich der Frage, wie sie ihre Lehre an neue Herausforderungen in der Praxis, beispielsweise die neue Flut an Fehl- und Falschinformationen, anpassen und die Studierenden im Verbund beispielsweise mit wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken noch besser an anspruchsvolle Recherchen und Quellenkritik heranführen sollten. Die Forschung der Informationswissenschaft umfasst ein heterogenes Themenspektrum und kommt zu wichtigen Ergebnissen, z.B. in den Bereichen Smart Cities und Smart Countries, Semantic Web, Information Behavior, Big Data und Forschungsinfrastruktur. Diese und andere Gebiete werden unsere Zukunft bis weit in unseren Alltag hinein bestimmen. Wie wir diese Herausforderungen bewältigen, dafür eröffnet die Informationswissenschaft neue und notwendige Perspektiven.

- Abstract
- Dieser Band versammelt die Beiträge einer Tagung, die im April 2010 in der Forschungsbibliothek Gotha stattgefunden hat. Ziel der Veranstaltung war es, nach dem zukünftigen Wert zu fragen, den Bibliotheken und Archive im Zeitalter der Virtualisierung behalten werden. Diesen immer weiter fortschreitenden Prozess treiben nicht nur diese Institutionen selbst, sondern auch mächtige Quasimonopole wie Google voran, ohne dass über die Implikationen hinreichend reflektiert würde. Zu fragen ist, ob zu den Folgen, die die Virtualisierung für Bibliotheken und Archive haben wird, auch ihre Selbstabschaffung als an Orten fassbare Einrichtungen gehört. Es ist aber auch damit zu rechnen, dass das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten und Denken seine Struktur verändern wird. Vor diesem Hintergrund unternimmt dieser Band eine Würdigung des Analogen und seines fortbestehenden Wertes im Zeitalter der Entmaterialisierung.

In diversen Blogs und Mailinglisten wird darüber seit geraumer Zeit diskutiert. Der Bereich Katalogisierung befindet sich in einer Phase tiefgreifenden Wandels, ausgelöst durch eine Vielzahl von Faktoren, von denen veränderte Nutzererwartungen bei der Recherche und die wachsende Menge an neuen zu katalogisierenden Materialien (e-Books, Web-Ressourcen etc.) und Formaten nur zwei Aspekte darstellen. Das technische Umfeld wird nicht zuletzt durch fortgeschrittene Möglichkeiten im Bereich Retrieval und Präsentation geprägt. Wie schafft man es, dass Katalogisierung als Teil des gesamten Bibliothekswesens relevant und zeitgemäß bleibt? Welche der in Jahrzehnten Katalogisierungspraxis erarbeiteten Standards sind erhaltenswert, und welche sind im Hinblick auf den Fortschritt der IT und ein mögliches Semantic Web vielleicht gar nicht mehr nötig oder müssen an die Gegebenheiten angepasst werden? Mit diesen und anderen Fragen beschäftigt sich die Aufsatzsammlung "Conversations with catalogers in the 21st century". In der Community bekannte Personen wie Martha Yee, Christine Schwartz oder James Weinheimer kommen zu Wort, aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum Bernhard Eversberg, Entwickler des Bibliothekssystems Allegro.
Ein großes Thema ist erwartungsgemäß das neue Regelwerk RDA, das, um es vorwegzunehmen, bei den drei Autoren, die sich ausschließlich diesem Gesichtspunkt widmen, vorwiegend auf Kritik stößt. Erstmals publiziert wird an dieser Stelle eine Studie der Herausgeberin Elaine R. Sanchez, die ein Meinungsbild der einschlägig tätigen Bibliothekarinnen (wie z.B. Titelaufnehmerinnen, Systembibliothekarinnen) zum Umstieg auf RDA zeichnet. Wie in den anderen Kapiteln liegt auch hier der Schwerpunkt auf dem US- bzw. anglo-amerikanischen Raum, was einen Blick über den eigenen Tellerrand ermöglicht und eine Grundstimmung einfängt, der man auch in Europa und hierzulande angesichts internationaler Kooperationen und zunehmend globaler Ausrichtung bei Standards und Regelwerken Beachtung schenken sollte. Andere Beiträge setzen sich mit Themen auseinander, die ebenfalls die Rolle der Katalogisierung unter sich ständig und rasant verändernden Bedingungen betreffen: die Bedeutung von bibliographischen Standards (und Qualitätsstandards im besonderen) im Zeitalter von Google Books, das Titeldaten aus Bibliotheken "nur noch" in einem Mashup mit anderen algorithmisch aufbereiteten Daten verarbeitet; das sich wandelnde Berufsbild von Titelaufnehmerinnen, die mit traditionellen Materialien und Datenformaten arbeiten, hin zu Metadaten-Spezialisten, die sich durch Kenntnisse digitaler Objekte und der entsprechenden Formate wie etwa Dublin Core auszeichnen; Anpassung von Workflows an die technischen Möglichkeiten der Automatisierung und Digitalisierung; Anforderungen an Ausbildung und berufliche Weiterbildung von Katalogisierungsexpertinnen etc. Eine chronologische Bibliographie von Literatur mit Bezug auf Bibliotheken und Katalogisierung von 1800 bis heute beschließt den Band.
Eine wiederkehrende positive Einschätzung ist, dass Katalogisiererinnen sich in der jüngeren Geschichte schon mehrmals Wandel und Veränderungen stellen mußten (z.B. Umstieg von Zettelkatalog auf EDV) und dies auch stets gut gemeistert haben. Allerdings muss man hier anmerken, dass neue Entwicklungen erst mit (großer) Verzögerung nachvollzogen wurden und Bibliotheken heute nicht mehr die einzigen sind, die bibliographische Daten bereitstellen. Es gilt also mehr denn je, sich als ein Player unter vielen zu positionieren und die Rolle neu zu definieren, die Bibliotheken (und vor allem die Katalogisierung als Rückgrat der Informationsversorgung) in einer veränderten Wissens- und Informationslandschaft spielen. Der vorliegende Titel kann hierzu Anregungen und Denkanstöße aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln, wenn auch keine wirklich revolutionären Ansätze oder gar fertigen Lösungen liefern."

- Das Buch vermittelt Kenntnisse über die Modellierung dokumentbezogener Metadaten durch praktische Aufgabenstellungen, begleitende theoretische Erläuterungen sowie ergänzende Übungen. Als Beispiele dienen Bilddokumente und bibliografische Daten. Es wird vermittelt, wie entsprechende Datenbanken aufgebaut und mit geeigneten Suchumgebungen ausgestattet werden. Es wird dargestellt und praktisch geübt, wie Kenntnisse über die Struktur der Daten zum Import von Fremddaten genutzt werden können. Zielvorstellung ist der Aufbau von Datenbanken zur formalen und inhaltlichen Erschließung und die Gestaltung von Retrievalumgebungen, für bibliografische Daten auch die Erstellung von Bibliografien. Als Methoden zur inhaltlichen Erschließung werden besonders die semantische Strukturierung von Themenfeldern am Beispiel des aspektorientierten Thesaurus-Konzepts und das Automatische Indexieren bibliografischer Daten behandelt. Abgerundet wird die Darstellung durch die Diskussion von Bezügen zum Aufbau relationaler Datenbanken für bibliografische Daten sowie Hintergründe der Zeichencodierung und Ordnungsfragen.

- Wer philosophiert, der argumentiert. Dabei hält sich das erstaunliche Vorurteil, daß beim philosophischen Argumentieren einfach nur die formale Logik auf die Themen der Philosophie anzuwenden sei. Aber mit Logikkenntnissen allein ist es nicht getan. Das spannende und aufregende Denkabenteuer philosophischen Argumentierens beginnt jenseits des bloß Formalen. Holm Tetens legt ein Buch vor, das in die Eigenheiten philosophischen Argumentierens ganz von den inhaltlichen Themen und Problemen der Philosophie her einführt. Dabei kommt die formale Logik durchaus zu ihrem Recht, indem zu Anfang ihre Prinzipien und die Technik ihrer Anwendung vorgestellt werden. Ansonsten ist das Buch aber so untechnisch geschrieben, daß man ihm auch ohne tiefere Logikkenntnisse gut folgen kann. Für jeden, der sich für die Philosophie interessiert, sei er Anfänger, Laie oder bereits gut mit ihr vertraut, hält dieses Buch eine Fülle an Informationen und provokanten Denkanregungen bereit.

- Die Bewertung der Indexierungsqualität bzw. -güte ist ein grundlegendes Problem von intellektuellen und automatischen Indexierungsverfahren. Letztere werden aber gerade im digitalen Zeitalter als einzige Möglichkeit angesehen, den zunehmenden Schwierigkeiten bibliothekarischer Informationsstrukturierung gerecht zu werden. Diese Studie befasst sich mit der Funktionsweise, Implementierung und Evaluierung der Sacherschließungssoftware MindServer Categorizer der Firma Recommind an der Deutschen Zentralbibliothek für Wirtschaftswissenschaften. Grundlage der maschinellen Sacherschließung und anschließenden quantitativen und qualitativen Auswertung bilden rund 39.000 wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Dokumente aus den Datenbanken Econis und EconStor. Unter Zuhilfenahme des rund 6.000 Schlagwörter umfassenden Standard-Thesaurus Wirtschaft wird der ursprünglich rein statistische Indexierungsansatz des MindServer Categorizer zu einem begriffsorientierten Verfahren weiterentwickelt und zur Inhaltserschließung digitaler Informationsressourcen eingesetzt. Der zentrale Fokus dieser Studie liegt vor allem auf der Evaluierung der maschinell beschlagworteten Titel, in Anlehnung an die hierzu von Stock und Lancaster vorgeschlagenen Kriterien: Indexierungskonsistenz, -tiefe, -breite, -spezifität, -effektivität. Weiterhin wird die Belegungsbilanz des STW evaluiert und es erfolgt zusätzlich eine qualitative, stichprobenartige Bewertung der Ergebnisse seitens der zuständigen Fachreferenten und -referentinnen.

- Abstract
- Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the first new international cataloguing standard for nearly thirty years. This essential new textbook builds on John Bowman's highly regarded "Essential Cataloguing" to provide cataloguers with the skills needed for transition to RDA. It gives an introduction to Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), which provides the conceptual basis for RDA; discusses the differences between AACR2 and RDA; and shows the current state of play in MARC 21. The final chapter includes ten records displayed in AACR2 level 1, AACR2 level 2, RDA and MARC 21, making it easy to see the differences at a glance. There is also a fully-explained worked example based on RDA Appendix M. Written at a time of transition in international cataloguing, this book provides cataloguers and students with a background in general cataloguing principles, the current code (AACR2) and format (MARC 21) and the new standard (RDA).
