- Abstract
- Das Historische Wörterbuch der Philosophie (HWPh), im Zeitraum von 1971 bis 2007 unter Mitwirkung von mehr als 1500 Fachgelehrten entstanden, ist eines der umfassendsten, bedeutendsten und auch erfolgreichsten Publikationsprojekte der jüngeren deutschsprachigen Geisteswissenschaften. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Lexika oder Enzyklopädien basiert das HWPh nicht auf einer Geschichte philosophischer Ideen oder Probleme, sondern auf der Geschichte der philosophischen Begriffe. In 12 Textbänden sowie einem abschliessenden Registerband dokumentiert das Lexikon in 17144 Spalten und rund 6000 Artikeln anhand zahlreicher präziser Belege und Stellenangaben Herkunft und Genese von insgesamt 3670 philosophischen Begriffen und beschreibt den Wandel ihrer Bedeutung und Funktion von ihrem ersten Auftreten bis heute. Das Konzept der begriffsgeschichtlichen Methode macht sowohl synchronisch Stellung und Bedeutung einzelner Begriffe in bestimmten Epochen oder bei bestimmten Philosophinnen und Philosophen als auch diachronisch deren Bedeutungsveränderungen innerhalb der abendländischen Philosophiegeschichte nachvollziehbar. Um die spezifisch philosophische Begriffsarbeit im Kontext des gesamten Wissenschaftssystems zu veranschaulichen, werden zudem auch Begriffe aus angrenzenden Fachgebieten - Theologie, Psychologie, Pädagogik, Soziologie, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte, Politik, Jurisprudenz, Medizin sowie aus den Naturwissenschaften - behandelt.

- Abstract
- Der vorliegende Leitfaden zur Vergabe der DDC-Sachgruppen in der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie und dem Neuerscheinungsdienst ersetzt ab Heft 1, Bibliografie-Jahrgang 2004 der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie den 1994 in zweiter Auflage erschienenen Leitfaden "Sachgruppen der Deutschen Nationalbibliographie". Basierend auf diesem Text entstandenTextteil und Register des aktuellen Leitfadens mit Unterstützung der Fachreferentinnen und Fachreferenten Der Deutschen Bibliothek in Frankfurt und Leipzig und der Schweizerischen Landesbibliothek in Bern. Er soll Bibliotheken, Verlagen und Buchhandel in den drei deutschsprachigen Ländern als Hilfsmittel zur sachlichen Zuordnung und Recherche von Neuerscheinungen dienen. Auch die Österreichische Bibliographie und das Schweizer Buch bedienen sich mit geringfügigen Abweichungen der hier vorgestellten DDC-Sachgruppen. In den deutschsprachigen Ländern gehört die Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation bisher nicht zu den im bibliothekarischen Alltag geläufigen Arbeitsinstrumenten. Mit ihrer Übersetzung ins Deutsche und ihrer zunehmenden Nutzung in den nächsten Jahren werden viele der im Folgenden geregelten Sachverhalte bekannter und damit einfacher in der Handhabung. Trotzdem werden sich zusätzliche Anregungen für Eintragungen im Register und Hauptteil dieses Leitfadens im Zuge der laufenden Arbeit damit sicherlich auch in Zukunft ergeben, wie sich auch Fehler und Ungenauigkeiten nicht vermeiden lassen. Für Hinweise, Korrekturen und Ergänzungswünsche sind wir daher dankbar.

- Abstract
- Es werden die Grundprobleme der Sacherschließung in Online-Katalogen dargestellt. Ein anschließendes Kapitel behandelt das Verhältnis von verbaler und klassifikatorischer Erschließung. Ein wichtiger Teil der Aussagen betrifft das Gebiet der verbalen Sacherschließung und damit das nationale Regelwerk: Es werden Vorschläge für eine Reform der RSWK im Hinblick auf die Erfordernisse der OPAC unterbreitet. Regelwerk und Normdatei (SWD) bilden dabei eine Einheit und werden zusammen betrachtet. Im vergangenen Jahr wurden die Ergebnisse der Expertengruppe mit dem Schwerpunkt Formalerschließung vorgelegt, nun folgen die Aussagen zur Sacherschließung, welche die Expertengruppe - in veränderter personeller Zusammensetzung unter Leitung von Dr. Friedrich Geißelmann, Regensburg - erarbeitet hat. Die bibliothekarische Öffentlichkeit ist aufgefordert, sich dazu bis zum Jahresende zu äußern. Beide Berichte beziehen sich aufeinander und versuchen, den Zusammenhang zwischen Formal- und Sacherschließung herzustellen. Vom gegenwärtigen Stand der Sacherschließung in deutschen Bibliotheken ausgehend - wozu auch durch die Gruppe im Frühjahr 1993 eine Umfrage in wissenschaftlichen und Öffentlichen Bibliotheken gemacht worden ist, werden die Grundprobleme der Sacherschließung in Online-Katalogen dargestellt. Ein anschließendes Kapitel behandelt das Verhältnis von verbaler und klassifikatorischer Erschließung. - Abstract
- OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogues) sind heute meist der einzige Zugang zu den Beständen einer Bibliothek, doch zeigt die Praxis, dass viele Nutzer Probleme bei der Bedienung elektronischer Kataloge haben. Ein guter OPAC muss deshalb über ein durchdachtes Online-Hilfesystem verfügen. Die Arbeit leistet eine Bestandsaufnahme und kritische Diskussion der an deutschen Universitäts-OPACs implementierten Online-Hilfesysteme. Außer den verschiedenen Formen von Hilfetexten werden dabei auch Hilfen wie Rechtschreibkorrektur, Suchergebnisfilter und Recommender miteinbezogen. Grundlagen der Analyse sind zum einen eine funktionsbezogene Klassifikation der Hilfen, zum anderen die Einführung der Begriffe Effektivität und Effizienz, die als Parameter zur Bestimmung des Nutzens eines Hilfesystems dienen. Als Ergebnis der Untersuchung stellt die Autorin Prinzipien eines effizienten Hilfesystems vor. Das Buch richtet sich an Leser aus den Bereichen Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen sowie Mensch-Maschine-Kommunikation.

- Abstract
- Diese Arbeit dient der Professionalisierung und Harmonisierung der Erschließungsmethodik im Archiv- und Bibliothekswesen. Die Erschließung ist das Kernstück der archivarischen und bibliothekarischen Arbeit und Grundlage für die Benutzung durch die interessierte Öffentlichkeit. Hier wird, bildlich gesprochen, das gesät, was in der Benutzung geerntet wird und je gewissenhafter die Aussaat desto ertragreicher die Ernte. Der Bereich der Dokumentation wird, wo es für die Betrachtung der integrativen Momente in den Informationswissenschaften erforderlich erscheint, einbezogen. Das Hauptaugenmerk gilt jedoch der Archivwissenschaft und den Beziehungen zwischen der Archiv- und Bibliothekswissenschaft. Vornehmlich wird die Arbeit nationale Strukturen des Archivund Bibliothekswesens sowie ausgewählte Projekte und Tendenzen abhandeln. Auf eine erschöpfende Untersuchung aller Ausbildungsgänge auf dem Informationssektor wird verzichtet, da das Ziel dieser Arbeit nur die Betrachtung der integrativen Konzepte in der Ausbildung ist. Ziel der Publikation ist es, Angebote sowohl für die Grundlagenforschung als auch für die angewandte Forschung im Themenbereich Harmonisierung und Professionalisierung in der Erschließung der Informationswissenschaften zu machen. Sie kann als Diskussionsgrundlage für den interdisziplinären fachlichen Austausch dienen, der weitere Arbeiten folgen müssen. Es wird versucht, Wissen aus den Bereichen Archivwesen und Bibliothekswesen zu kumulieren und zu kommentieren. Vollständigkeit wird nicht beansprucht, sondern Wert auf Beispielhaftigkeit gelegt, zumal der rasante Technologiewandel zwangsläufig eine rasche Veralterung technischer Angaben zu den elektronischen Informationsträgern zur Folge hat. Bestand haben jedoch die theoretischen Überlegungen und abstrakten Betrachtungen sowie die getroffenen Aussagen zur Addition, Integration und Separation der Informationswissenschaften. - Abstract
- Nahezu unbeachtet in der gesamten bibliothekswissenschaftlichen Literatur blieb bislang ein Arbeitsschritt der Inhaltserschließung, obgleich er ihren Ausgangspunkt bildet und damit von grundlegender Bedeutung ist: die Analyse des Inhalts von Dokumenten. Klare Aussagen über den Inhalt und die Beschaffenheit eines Dokuments auf der Basis fundierter Kriterien treffen zu können, ist das Anliegen von Langridges, nunmehr erstmalig in deutscher Übersetzung vorliegendem Werk. Gestützt auf ein Fundament philosophisch abgeleiteter Wissensformen, zeigt Langridge anhand einer Vielzahl konkreter Beispiele Wege - aber auch Irrwege- auf, sich dem Inhalt von Dokumenten zu nähern und zu Resultaten zu gelangen, die dank objektiver Kriterien überprüfbar werden. - Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

- Abstract
- Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.
