- Abstract
- The author's experiences as a master's and doctoral student at the University of California at Berkeley School of Library and Information Studies during a formative period in the history of information science, 1966-71, are described. The relationship between documentation and information science as experienced in that program is discussed, as well as the various influences, both social and intellectual, that shaped the author's understanding of information science at that time.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag diskutiert Aspekte des Paradigmenwechsels in der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft mit besonderer Betonung der internationalen Verflechtungen. Diskutiert werden die Wandlungen des Berufsbildes und die daraus folgenden Auswirkungen für die Ausbildung. Einige internationale Lösungen für grundsätzliche Probleme moderner Informationsvermittlung werden dargestellt. Problematisch ist die geringe Kompetenz der Politik für unserArbeitsfeld und das geringe Selbstbewusstsein der Informationsvermittler. Zuletzt werden einige Vorschläge für kreative Entwicklung des Berufsstandes gegeben.

- Abstract
- Immer mehr wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken, insbesondere Hochschulbibliotheken, erweitern ihre E-Learningangebote um sogenannte Online-Tutorials. Solche interaktiven, multi-medialen Lernprogramme bieten den Nutzern die Möglichkeit, sich zeit- und ortsunabhängig selbständig grundlegende Themen der Bibliotheks- und Informationskompetenz anzueignen. In der bibliothekarischen Fachliteratur finden sich aber keine Aussagen darüber, in welchem Umfang und wie lerneffektiv diese - meist mit hohem Aufwand erstellte - Angebote tatsächlich genutzt werden. Um die Lernwirksamkeit überprüfen zu können, bedarf es Online-Tutorials, die über einen automatisierten elektronischen Test verfügen, anhand dessen Nutzer eigenständig den Erwerb der Lerninhalte kontrollieren können. Die vorliegende Arbeit versteht sich als ein Beitrag zur Konzeption evaluierbarer Online-Tutorials. Skizziert wird eine strukturierte Vorgehensweise zur Umsetzung von Tutorials, die statistisch auswertbare Daten zur Lerneffektivität generieren. Im Fokus stehen hierbei didaktische Bedingungen automatisierter Lernerfolgskontrollen und deren Umsetzung anhand sogenannter geschlossener Aufgaben. Da sich mit diesem Aufgabentypus nur bestimmte kognitive Leistungsbereiche messen lassen, ist im Vorfeld zu prüfen, dass ein Tutorial nur Lerninhalte vermittelt, deren Erwerb anschließend auch mit geschlossenen Aufgaben überprüft werden kann. Unter Rückgriff auf eine spezifische E-Learning-Taxonomie wird offensichtlich, dass mindestens Reproduktions-, Verständnis- und Anwendungsleistungen umsetzbar sind. Wie entsprechende Aufgabenstellungen in bibliothekarischen Online-Tutorials aussehen können, wird an Beispielfragen zur Überprüfung von Fakten-, Konzept- und Prozedurenwissen demonstriert.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem neuen Studienschwerpunkt "Data Librarian" im Studiengang "Data and Information Science", der seit dem Wintersemester 2018/19 am Institut für Informationswissenschaft der Technischen Hochschule Köln angeboten wird. Im Rahmen einer gemeinsamen Akkreditierung aller Bachelor-Studiengänge des Instituts entwickelt, bündelt bzw. vermittelt er u. a. umfassende Kenntnisse in den Bereichen Datenstrukturen, Datenverarbeitung, Informationssysteme, Datenanalyse und Information Research in den ersten Semestern. Das sechsmonatige Praxissemester findet in einer wissenschaftlichen Bibliothek oder Informationseinrichtung statt, bevor die Schwerpunkte Forschungsdaten I+II, Wissenschaftskommunikation, Szientometrie und automatische Erschließung vermittelt werden.

- Abstract
- Die Fachrichtung Informationswissenschaft ist mit wenigen Worten nicht zu erklären. Diese vermeintliche Schwäche ist im Grunde jedoch eine Stärke: Die Studierenden bekommen eine solide Grundlagenausbildung mit technologischem Fokus und sind vielfältig einsetzbar. Das Fach selbst kann und muss regelmäßig seine Inhalte überarbeiten und an die Erfordernisse aus Gesellschaft und Arbeitswelt anpassen. Neben den Grundlagen stehen innovative forschungsorientierte und projektbasierte Lehrinhalte.

- Abstract
- Purpose - The purpose of this research is to report on research undertaken into the use made of library and information science (LIS) journals in dissertations written by students undertaking the Master's course in Information and Library Studies at the University of Wales Aberystwyth. Design/methodology/approach - Analysis of the citations of 100 (post 2000) dissertations submitted gives an indication of the range of material used in dissertations. In addition, responses to questionnaires from students provide information about how relevant papers are found from LIS journals. Findings - Journals with a practical bias were cited more than research-oriented journals. Lists of the most "popular" journal titles are included. Originality/value - The research provides a "snapshot" of the use made of LIS journals by Master's students in their dissertations.

- Abstract
- This paper investigates the perceptions of the heads of 12 LIS schools about KM education. The heads from North America, Europe and Pacific region who consented to participate in this study had either been offering KM courses or had an apparent interest in these programs. Data about perceptions were gathered around the nature of their KM coursework, KM positions their graduates might target, interdisciplinary partnerships, strategic partnerships with industry, and practical difficulties in the introduction of KM courses. They were asked to pinpoint difficulties in the areas of faculty availability, student enrollment, resource availability, creation of partnerships, working with professional associations, and interactions with industry. There existed a strong interest in offering KM courses, cultivating collaborations with business and computing schools, and developing strategic partnerships with industry. These heads identified those problems that hindered their progress.

- Abstract
- Hat sich aus der Sicht der Keynote-Speaker und Referenten seit ihrem Auftritt auf der Buchmesse-Veranstaltung "Steilvorlagen für den Unternehmenserfolg" einiges verändert? Wir haben sie gefragt. Keynote-Speaker Prof. Bern Jörs lehrt Informationswissenschaft an der Hochschule Darmstadt und wurde von seinen Studierenden wiederholt zum Professor des Jahres gewählt. Nachdem er vor zwei Jahren eine Brand- und Warnrede gehalten hatte, stellt er heute fest: In Ausbildung und Weiterbildung und in der Informationswissenschaft allgemein ist alles noch schlimmer geworden.
