- Wissenschaftliche Karrieren und Publikationen benötigen Reputation und möglichst viel Beachtung. Literatur, die diese Aufmerksamkeit findet, wird - so die gängige Annahme - häufig zitiert. Ausgehend von dieser Überlegung wurden Verfahren der Zitationsmessung entwickelt, die Auskunft über die Relevanz oder (wie im- und explizit oft auch postuliert wird) gar die Qualität einer Publikation oder eines Wissenschaftlers geben sollen.

- Abstract
- Deutschsprachige Fachzeitschriften des Bibliotheks- und Informationswesens (BID) werden über Kennwerte zur Leserwahrnehmung (Lesehäufigkeit, Anwendbarkeit der gelesenen Inhalte, Publikationshäufigkeit, Publikationspräferenz), Zitatenanalyse (Impact Factor, Halbwertszeit der Referenzen, Referenzen pro Artikel, Anteil der Zeitschriftenselbstreferenzen) und der Redaktion (Struktur der Autoren- und Leserschaft, Artikelauswahl, Ablehnungsquote, Überarbeitungsquote) szientometrisch beschrieben. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf die Gegenüberstellung der Ergebnisse der Teilstudien gelegt. Die deutschsprachigen BID-Zeitschriften werden von Praktikern als Autoren wie als Leser dominiert. Praktiker schreiben für Praktiker, es wird wenig zitiert, aktuelle Themen überwiegen. Die Ablehnungsquoten eingereichter Artikel sind gering; durchgehendes Peer Review ist bei der Artikelauswahl die Ausnahme. Einige deutschsprachige BID-Zeitschriften (vor allem die Verbandszeitschriften) gleichen informationellen Inseln. Eine informations- und bibliothekswissenschaftliche Zeitschrift, die internationalen Qualitätsstandards folgt und die für das gesamte BID relevante Themen behandelt, fehlt in den deutschsprachigen Ländern völlig.

- Abstract
- Fachzeitschriften spielen für Wissenschaftler und Praktiker bei der Verbreitung von Forschungsergebnissen und Erfahrungsberichten eine wichtige Rolle. Der vorliegende Artikel gibt eine kurze Einführung in das Feld der Informetrie, um auf dieser Grundlage eine Zeitschriftenliste auf dem Gebiet der lnformations- und Bibliothekswissenschaft (luB) einzuführen. Durch Kombination von zehn verschiedenen Zeitschriftenlisten aus Datenbanken, die relevante Literatur auf dem Gebiet der luB erfassen, wird eine umfassende Liste von 1205 relevanten Fachzeitschriften erstellt. Anhand ihrer Erscheinungshäufigkeit wird die Bedeutung einzelner Zeitschriften für das Gebiet der luB eingeordnet, wobei vier verschiedene Kategorien von Zeitschriften unterschieden werden: fünfzehn Kernzeitschriften, 88 zentrale Zeitschriften, 173 selektive Zeitschriften und 672 Randzeitschriften. Betrachtet werden darüber hinaus auch Publikationssprache und geografische Verteilung der Zeitschriften sowie die Überschneidung von verschiedenen Datenbanken untereinander.

- Abstract
- Zitationen spielen eine wichtige Rolle im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs, in der Recherchepraxis sowie im Bereich der Bibliometrie. In jüngster Zeit gibt es zunehmend Initiativen, die Zitationen als Open Data zur freien Nachnutzung verfügbar machen. Der Beitrag beschreibt den Stand der Entwicklung dieser Initiativen und zeigt, dass in nächster Zeit eine kritische Masse von Daten entstehen könnte, aus denen sich gerade für Bibliotheken neue Perspektiven ergeben. Als konkrete Möglichkeit zur Partizipation für Bibliotheken wird das DFG-Projekt Linked Open Citation Database (LOC-DB) vorgestellt.

- Abstract
- In diesem Beitrag werden am Beispiel von Onkologie- und Pharmaziezeitschriften Unterschiede zwischen und Gemeinsamkeiten von Downloads und Zitaten herausgearbeitet. Die Download-Daten wurden von Elsevier (ScienceDirect) bereitgestellt, die Zitationsdaten wurden den Journal Citation Reports entnommen bzw. aus dem Web of Science recherchiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen hohen Zusammenhang zwischen Download- und Zitationshäufigkeiten, der für die relativen Zeitschriftenindikatoren und auf Artikelebene etwas geringer ist. Deutliche Unterschiede bestehen hingegen zwischen den Altersstrukturen der herunter-geladenen und der zitierten Artikel. Elektronische Zeitschriften haben maßgeblich dazu beigetragen, dass aktuelle Literatur früher aufgegriffen und deutlich öfter zitiert wird, im Schnitt hat sich das Alter der zitierten Literatur in den letzten zehn Jahren aber kaum verändert.

- Abstract
- Dimensionen der Zeitschriftenszientometrie sind (1.) die Produktion der Zeitschrift (Artikel, Autoren), (2.) der Inhalt (Themen) (3.) die Rezeption (Leser), (4.) die formale Fachkommunikation (Referenzen, Zitationen) sowie (5.) die Redaktion (Redaktionspolitik, Verlag). Die Zeitschrift "BuB - Forum für Bibliothek und Information" (BuB) wird einer szientometrischen Analyse unterzogen. BuB ist die auflagenstärkste deutschsprachige Zeitschrift des Bibliotheks- und Informationswesens. Innerhalb des Beobachtungszeitraums von 1990 bis 2003 sind 4.297 Beiträge mit insgesamt 6.803 Referenzen intellektuell ausgewertet worden. Im Vergleich zu erwarteten informetrischen Regelmäßigkeiten zeigt BuB bemerkenswerte Besonderheiten: Nicht ein Top-Autor, sondern eine über Jahre hinweg recht homogene Gruppe von Verfassern dominiert die Literaturproduktion bei BuB. Bei den Referenzen zeigt sich eine sehr hohe Konzentration auf die eigene Zeitschrift. BuB gleicht einer Insel, an die nur wenige fremde Informationen angespült werden. Obwohl Männer und Frauen jeweils 50 Prozent der Beiträge erarbeiten, so gibt es doch sowohl Männerdomänen (vor allem Rezensionen, aber auch Aufsätze) als auch Frauendomänen (Kurzbeiträge und Tagungsberichte). Die Halbwertszeit der Referenzen ist mit 2,7 Jahre sehr niedrig, Halbwertszeiten zitierter Monographien sind dabei höher als die der zitierten Zeitschriftenartikel.

- Abstract
- Wissenschaftliche Institutionen und einzelne WissenschaftlerInnen werden zunehmend nach bibliometrischen Daten beurteilt. Jeder Mathematiker hat Vorbehalte gegenüber dieser Praxis. Über diese beiden Dinge waren sich alle TeilnemerInnen und Wortmeldungen des Panels zur Bibliometrie auf der DMV-Jahrestagung in Salzburg einig. Für einzelne WissenschaftlerInnen hat die IMU bereits 2014 (tinyurl.com/ycd7wvh7) die Vorbehalte gegenüber rein bibliometrischen Beurteilungen klar formuliert. Universitätsleitungen, Politik und andere bis hin zur öffentlichen Diskussion verlassen sich aber teilweise aif diese Art der Bewertung. Konkret kann das so aussehen: Zur Beurteilung von Departements zählt eine Universität Publikationen und gewichtet sie nach ihrer Güte. Die Güte entnimmt man einer Einteilung von Fachzeitschriften etwa in A, B und C. Liegt eine solche Einteilung nicht vor, sind alle Journale des Faches mit 1 gewichtet, d.h. 'junk'. Die Diskrepanz zwischen unserer Einschätzung und der allgemeinen Wirkmächtigkeit von Biblimetrie wirft für die DMV als Fachgegsellschaft die Frage auf, wie sie Einfluss nehmen kann und soll. Die 'Mitteilungen' versuchen an dieser Stelle zunächst, ein möglichst breites Meinungsbild zu sammeln. Wir haben sieben Fragen an eine Reihe von Kolleginnen und Kollegen gestellt, die am Panel teilgenmmen haben oder aus anderen Gründen mit dem Thema besfasst sind.

- Abstract
- Die Messung wissenschaftlicher Leistung hat gerade in Zeiten knapper öffentlicher Budgets Konjunktur. Wissenschaftliche Indikatoren zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass nicht mehr einzelne Experten ihre subjektive Einschätzung über den Zustand der Wissenschaften abgeben, sondern die Summe dessen, was die Wissenschaft selbst produziert hat, so analysiert wird, dass ein objektives' Bild der Wissenschaft entsteht'. Zudem könnte mit der öffentlichen Diskussion etwa von Rankinglisten eine demokratische Steuerung des Wissenschaftsbetriebs erreicht zu werden'. Andererseits kann seriöse Forschung, die langfristige Forschungsziele in unspektakulären Schritten stützt, die unkonventionell Wissenschaft betreibt oder die Methodenkritik ernst nimmt, hierdurch benachteiligt werden. In unserer wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation wird es zunehmend schwerer, Wissenschaftsinhalte, Wissenschaftseinheiten und Wissenschaftsauswirkungen zu definieren oder gar ursächlich zuzuschreiben. Eine Bibliometrie, die sich als eine Wissenschaft von der Messbarkeit und Aussagekraft der wissenschaftlichen Prozesse und Produkte versteht, wird genau dort wieder anzusetzen haben, wo sie einst begonnen hat: nämlich bei der Hinterfragung dessen, wie Wissenschaftlichkeit und Forschungsfortschritt sich objektiv ausdrückt und wie dies 'unobstrusiv' ermittelt und sozialverträglich kommuniziert werden kann.

- Abstract
- Bibliometrie zur Evaluation wissenschaftlicher Leistung gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung. Vor allem für Hochschulleitungen sind bibliometrische Indices zur Leistungsbeurteilung ihrer Wissenschaftler attraktiv. Die Wissenschaftler hingegen stehen den bibliometrischen Analysen skeptisch gegenüber und nehmen die Indices nur zögerlich an, wie die geringe Nutzung auf ihren Homepages im Internet zeigt. Für Bibliotheken ergibt sich eine neue Aufgabe. Sie sollten sich als Partner beider Gruppen positionieren und durch aktive Beratung ihre Kompetenz auf diesem Feld einbringen.

- Abstract
- Data were gathered on acknowledgements in five leading information science journals for the years 1991-1999. The results were compared with data from two earlier studies of the same journals. Analysis of the aggregate data (1971-1999) confirms the general impression that acknowledgement has become an institutionalised element of the scholarly communication process, reflecting the growing cognitive and structural complexity of contemporary research.

- Abstract
- Normalization of citation scores using reference sets based on Web of Science subject categories (WCs) has become an established ("best") practice in evaluative bibliometrics. For example, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings are, among other things, based on this operationalization. However, WCs were developed decades ago for the purpose of information retrieval and evolved incrementally with the database; the classification is machine-based and partially manually corrected. Using the WC "information science & library science" and the WCs attributed to journals in the field of "science and technology studies," we show that WCs do not provide sufficient analytical clarity to carry bibliometric normalization in evaluation practices because of "indexer effects." Can the compliance with "best practices" be replaced with an ambition to develop "best possible practices"? New research questions can then be envisaged.

- Der BIBLIOTHEKSDIENST Ist das Organ der Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Bibliotheksverbände (BDB) und wird von der Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin herausgegeben. Er ist eine Fachzeitschrift mit Mitteilungen und Berichten aus allen Bereichen der Bibliotheksarbeit. Der BIBLIOTHEKSDIENST erscheint monatlich (11mal im Jahr), die durchschnittliche Seitenzahl (im DIN A5-Format) beträgt 2.250 pro Jahrgang, wovon rund 200 bis 300 Seiten auf Anzeigen entfallen. Mit einer verkauften Auflage von 4.000 Exemplaren hat er eine große Reichweite in der deutschen Bibliothekswelt. 90% der Abonnenten leben in Deutschland, 10% im Ausland. Der Bezieherkreis setzt sich aus Bibliothekaren und verwandten Berufsgruppen (50%), aus Bibliotheken (40%) und Institutionen des Informationswesens (10%) zusammen. Der BIBLIOTHEKSDIENST erscheint als Printorgan, mit einer Verzögerung von drei Monaten werden die Artikel zusätzlich digital (http://bibliotheksdienst.zib.de) zur Verfügung gestellt. - Abstract
- Gibt es objektive Kriterien für die Bestellung und Abbestellung wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriften? Wie lange sollte eine Bibliothek Periodikabestände benutzernah aufstellen? Kann ein Verlag -außer via Verkaufszahlen - auf Kriterien des Erfolgs seiner Zeitschriften zurückgreifen? Hat ein Autor eine Entscheidungsgrundlage, welcher Zeitschrift er seinen Artikel anbietet? Ist die Forschungsaktivität eines Instituts oder eines Wissenschaftlers über den Impact derjenigen Zeitschriftentitel zu evaluieren, die die Forschungsergebnisse drucken? Können die 'Journal Citation Reports (JCR) "des "Institute for Scientific Information" bei der Klärung solcher Fragen helfen? Sind die JCR ein nützliches oder gar ein notwendiges Hilfsmittel für Bibliotheken, für Verlage, für Wissenschaftsmanager und für wissenschaftliche Autoren? Die 'Journal Citation Reports" geben im Jahresrhythmus informetrische Kennzahlen wie die Zitationsrate, den Impact Factor, den Immediacy Index, die Halbwertszeit für eine Auswahl wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriften an. Zusätzlich berichten sie darüber, weiche Zeitschriften weiche anderen Zeitschriften zitieren bzw. von diesen zitiert werden, so dass "Soziogramme" wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriftenkommunikation entstehen. Wir wollen am Beispiel des aktuellen Jahrgangs ( 1999) die JCR detailliert beschreiben, die Auswahlkriterien der Zeitschriften beleuchten, die verwendeten informetrischen Kennwerte - vor allem den Impact Factor - kritisch hinterfragen, um danach die Einsatzgebiete bei Bibliotheken, in der Wissenschaftsevaluation, bei Verlagen und bei Autoren zu diskutieren. Das Fazit sei vorweggenommen: Die JCR sind ein nicht umgehbares Hilfsmittel für die fokussierten Anwendungsbereiche. Sie sind mitnichten frei von Problemen. Wir schließen daher mit einigen Verbesserungsvorschlägen

- Abstract
- The main fields of research in Library Science and Documentation are identified by quantifying the frequency of appearance and the analysis of co-occurrence of the descriptors assigned to 11,273 indexed works in the Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) database for the 2004-2005 period. The analysis made has enabled three major core research areas to be identified: World Wide Web, Libraries and Education. There are a further 12 areas of research with specific development, one connected with the library sphere and another 11 connected with the World Wide Web and Internet: Networks, Computer Security, Information technologies, Electronic Resources, Electronic Publications, Bibliometrics, Electronic Commerce, Computer applications, Medicine, Searches and Online Information retrieval.

- Abstract
- Die Bereitstellung und Nutzung digitaler Bibliotheken entwickelt sich allmählich zum Standard der Literatur und Informationsversorgung in Wissenschaft und Forschung. Ganzen Disziplinen genügt oftmals die verfügbare digitale Information, Printmedien werden besonders im STM-Segment zu einem Nischenprodukt. Digitale Texte können beliebig eingebaut, kopiert und nachgenutzt werden, die Verlinkung zwischen Metadaten und Volltexten bringt weitere Nutzungsvorteile. Dabei sind die Angebote von Digital Libraries Bestandteil eines ganzheitlichen digitalen Ansatzes, wonach die elektronische Informations- und Literaturversorgung integraler Bestandteil von E-Science (Enhanced Science) oder Cyberinfrastructure darstellt. Hierbei verschmelzen dann Produktion, Diskussion, Distribution und Rezeption der wissenschaftlichen Inhalte auf einer einzigen digitalen Plattform. Damit sind dann nicht nur die Literatur- und Informationsversorgung (Digital Libraries), sondern auch die Wissenschaft selbst digital geworden. Diese dramatische Veränderung in der Wissenschaftskommunikation hat direkte Auswirkungen auf die Messung der Wissenschaftskommunikation, also auf die Evaluation von wissenschaftlichem Output. Bisherige Systeme der Wissenschaftsvermessung basieren hauptsächlich auf bibliometrischen Analysen, d.h. der Quantifizierung des Outputs und dessen Rezeption (Zitierhäufigkeit). Basis dafür sind insbesondere im STM-Bereich die international anerkannten Datenbanken des ISI (Thomson Scientific) insbesondere der Science Citation Index, SCI) oder vielleicht zukünftig das Konkurrenzprodukt SCOPUS des Wissenschaftskonzerns Reed Elsevier. Die Digitalisierung der Wissenschaft in ihrem kompletten Lebenszyklus, die zunehmende Nutzung und Akzeptanz von Dokumentenrepositorien, Institutsservern und anderen elektronischen Publikationsformen im Rahmen von E-Science erfordern und ermöglichen zugleich den Nachweis von Output und Rezeption durch neue bibliometrische Formen, etwa der Webometrie (Webmetrics). Im vorliegenden Paper haben wir hierzu Analysen durchgeführt und stellen eine Abschätzung vor, wie sich der Anteil von webometrisch erfassbarer und zugänglicher wissenschaftlicher Literatur im Vergleich zu Literatur, die mit den Standardsystemen nachgewiesen werden kann im Laufe der letzten Jahre verändert hat. Dabei haben wir unterschiedliche Disziplinen und Länder berücksichtigt. Zudem wird ein Vergleich der webometrischen Nachweisqualität so unterschiedlicher Systeme wie SCI, SCOPUS und Google Scholar vorgestellt.

- Abstract
- A bibliometric analysis of 1,456 articles appearing in Indian Library and Information Science journals between 1975 and 1985 revealed that the average rate of citations per article in the field was quite low. Books and journals were identified as the major categories of documents referred to in these articles and both were positively related. It is concluded that the increase in journal citations and rate of citations between 1975 and 1985 indicates that Indian Library and Information Science journals are now publishing a higher number of research-oriented articles in comparison with earlier years.
