Abstract: Betrachtet wird der europäische Entwurf der Informationsgesellschaft in der Folge des EG-Weißbuches von 1993 und der Tagung in Korfu (1994). Es zeigt sich die zentrale Rolle des Informationsengineering. Hier geht es um die Produktion, Speicherung, Verteilung und Abfrage von Informationen. Wirtschaftliche Kennziffern beleuchten den deutschen Informationsmarkt (Online-Datenbanken, CD-ROM, Videotex, professionelle Informationsvermittlung). Die Relevanz elektronischer Informationsdienste für die betriebswirtschaftliche Praxis (Branchen- und Konkurrenzanalysen, Benchmarking) wird anhand von konkreten Beispielrecherchen demonstriert. Elektronische Datenbanken gestatten, die wissenschaftliche Forschung im Rahmen der Wissenschaftsevaluation mittels Publikations- Zitations- oder Themenanalysen zu beschreiben und zu bewerten. Ein Kapitel beschreibt detailliert diejenigen Tätigkeiten, die beim Auf- und Ausbau elektronischer Informationsdienste routinemäßig durchgeführt werden, mit dem Ziel, Qualitätsmerkmale für die Informationstätigkeit abzuleiten. Die Komplexität der Informationstätigkeiten führt u.a. in Bereiche der fuzzy logic und der Informationshermeneutik. Abgeschlossen wird das Buch mit einer 'Anatomie' einer konkreten Datenbank. Beispiel ist die ifo Literaturdatenbank, die erfolgreich bei mehreren Hosts als Online-Datenbank sowie zusätzlich als CD-ROM Datenbank vermarktet wird

Abstract: In der Zeit des Internets und E-Commerce müssen auch deutsche Informationsfachleute ihre Dienste auf Englisch anbieten und sogar auf Englisch gestalten, um die internationale Community zu erreichen. Auf der anderen Seite spielt gerade auf dem Wissensmarkt Europa die sprachliche Identität der einzelnen Nationen eine große Rolle. In diesem Spannungsfeld zwischen Globalisierung und Lokalisierung arbeiten Informationsvermittler und werden dabei von Sprachspezialisten unterstützt. Man muss sich darüber im Klaren sein, dass jede Sprache - auch die für international gehaltene Sprache Englisch - eine Sprachgemeinschaft darstellt. In diesem Beitrag wird anhand aktueller Beispiele gezeigt, dass Sprache nicht nur grammatikalisch und terminologisch korrekt sein muss, sie soll auch den sprachlichen Erwartungen der Rezipienten gerecht werden, um die Grenzen der Sprachwelt nicht zu verletzen. Abstract: Es wird versucht, quantitative Werte zur Messung der Informationskompetenz von Volkswirtschaften zu entwickeln. Zudem sollen Korrelationen zwischen der Informationskompetenz und der wirtschaftlichen Leistungsfähigkeit darüber Auskunft geben, wie Gesamtwirtschaft und Inforinationswirtschaft eines Landes zusammenhängen. Operationalisierung. "Informationskompetenz" wird durch den Umsatz auf nationalen Business-toBusiness-Märkten operationalisiert. Abgeleitete Größen sind Pro-KopfImport- und Exportvolumen, Informationsproduktion und -konsumtion (insgesamt und pro Kopf) sowie der Anteil der Informationswirtschaft am jeweiligen nationalen Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP). Datenbasis. Im Rahmen der "Member States' Study" der Europäischen Kommission wurden für den gesamten Europäischen Wirtschaftsraum (EWR; Staaten der Europäischen Union sowie Norwegen und Island) für die Jahre 1994 und 1997 Umsatzzahlen der 17 Länder erhoben. Diese Zahlen wurden auf Plausibilität überprüft und unserer Fragestellung zugrundegelegt. Ergebnisse. Der Anteil der Informationswirtschaft am BIP ist derart gering (EWR: 0,070% im Jahr 1997), daß er nahezu ignoriert werden kann. Die Korrelation zwischen dem BIP pro Kopf und der Informationskonsumtion pro Kopf ist jedoch äußerst hoch (+0,715 im Jahr 1994 und +0,642 im Jahr 1997), ebenso die Korrelation zwischen BIP pro Kopf und Informationsimport pro Kopf (+0,588 im Jahr 1994 sowie +0,583 im Jahr 1997)

Abstract: In der Wirtschaft wie in der Wissenschaft gibt es Begriffe, die, einmal in Umlauf gesetzt, geradezu inflationär auftauchen: derzeit scheint es das WissensManagement zu sein, mit dem man hofft, die zunehmende Komplexität im Geschäftsalltages in den Griff zu bekommen. Mit glänzenden Augen wird von den nahezu unerschöpflichen Möglichkeiten des C-(Content)Business gesprochen, von riesigen neuen Umsatzmärkten und nicht zuletzt vom WissensManagement als Erfolgsfaktor für die Zukunft eines jeden Unternehmens. Oft haben die »Macher« von WissensMangement-Systemen aber »vergessen«, dass es nicht nur darum gehen kann, Informationen zur Verfügung zu stellen - Im Gegenteil: Mehr Informationen bedeuten selten besseres Informiertsein, geschweige denn mehr Wissen. Da wir davon ausgehen können, dass in der Zukunft Arbeiten und Lernen nicht mehr voneinander getrennt sind, und sich damit die Anforderungen an die Mitarbeiter eines Unternehmens enorm verändern werden, muss ein lebendiges WissensManagement adäquate Denkumgebungen schaffen, um auf diese Zukunft angemessen vorbereitet zu sein. Die Autorn befassen sich in ihrer Arbeit mit: Problemstellungen des Wissensmanagements, (Weiter-)Lernen auf digital organisierten Plattformen, mit Fragen der Beratung für Interaktivität im Zusammenhang mit Intra- und Internetlosungen, der Kombination von Informationstechniken mit ästhetischem Ausdruck und multidimensionalem Denken, Entwicklung von Szenarien für Fragen nach der Arbeit der Zukunft (nach der Methodologie von Global Business Network, USA)

Abstract: Die Qualität der Auskünfte in einem Call-Center des Typus Informationshotline wird gewährleistet durch die zentrale Bereitstellung von Informationen zu Produkten und Dienstleistungen eines Unternehmens. Dies kann in Form von Datenbanken, wie die in dieser Arbeit analysierten Kundentelefon-Wissensdatenbank der Deutschen Post AG (KT-WEB), realisiert werden. Damit die Call-Center-Mitarbeiter präzise, schnell und zuverlässig auf die im Kundengespräch relevanten Informationen zugreifen können, müssen die Informationen inhaltlich entsprechend erschlossen sein. Für KT-WEB wird dazu ein Konzept zur Optimierung der inhaltlichen Erschließung und Suche entwickelt, das über die bisher eingesetzten Erschließungsmethoden, Systematik und Volltexterschließung, hinaus geht: eine Erschließung mit facettierten Schlagwörtern.
