    Abstract
    Qualität ist auch im boomenden Markt des Online-Geschäftes ein zentrales Thema. Die Untersuchung "Qualität von Online-Fachinformation" analysiert gängige Qualitätskonzepte hinsichtlich ihrer Anwendbarkeit auf den Bereich der Online-Fachinformation und entwickelt neue Herangehensweisen an die Anforderungen in diesem Segment. Praxisnah wird erarbeitet, welche Aspekte berücksichtigt werden müssen, um qualtitativ hochwertige Information in einem professionellen Umfeld anbieten zu können. Dies ist auch eines der Hauptarbeitsfelder des Rezensenten, der aus eigener Praxis sieht, welche Schwierigkeiten sich hierbei finden: Viele Klienten erkennen ihren eigenen Informationsbedarf nicht, können ein fachliches nicht von einem informatorischen Problem trennen, sind nicht in der Lage, für ihr spezifisches Problem potenzielle Informationsquellen zu finden und haben vor allem Probleme, die Verbindung zwischen elektronischer und gedruckter WeIt zu schaffen, die somit praktisch unverbunden nebeneinander existieren (vgl. Rainer Strzolka: Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz als Informationsdienstleistung? Vortrag, FH Köln, Fakultät für Informations- und Kommunikationswissenschaften, Institut für Informationswissenschaft, am 31. Oktober 2003). Der Brückenschlag zwischen diesen beiden Welten gehört zu den Aufgaben professioneller Informationsvermittler, die nicht nur in der Digitalwelt firm sein müssen, aber auch dort. Nicht zuletzt müssen die gefundenen Informationen ergebnisorientiert genutzt und kritisch bewertet werden und die gefundenen Antworten zur Problemlösung eingesetzt werden. Die Informationslandschaft ist mit ihren verschiedenen Wissensmarktplätzen und Informationsräumen inzwischen so komplex geworden, dass eine kleine Handreichung dazu geeignet erscheint, vor allem die eigene Position des Informationsvermittlers zu überdenken. Zudem ist die aktive Informationsvermittlung noch ein dürres Feld in Deutschland. Die vorliegende kleine Erfahrungsstudie schickt sich an, dies zu ändern. Der Ansatz geht davon aus, dass jeder Vermittler von Medienkompetenz Lehrer wie Lernender zugleich ist; die Anlage ist wie bei allen BibSpider-Publikationen international ausgerichtet. Der Band ist komplett zweisprachig und versammelt Erfahrungsberichte aus der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, den USA und Südafrika, die eher als Ansatz zur Bewusstseinsbildung denn als Arbeitsanleitung gedacht sind. Eingeleitet wird der Band von einer terminologischen Herleitung des Begriffs aus dem Angelsächsischen und den verschiedenen Bedeutungsebenen, die durch unterschiedliche Bildungs- und Informationskulturen bedingt sind. Angerissen werden verschiedene Arbeitsgebiete und -erfahrungen.

    Abstract
    Die Entstehung von Social Software ermöglicht es Nutzern, in großem Umfang im Netz zu publizieren. Bisher liegen aber nur wenige empirische Befunde zu funktionalen Eigenschaften sowie Qualitätsaspekten von Nutzerbeiträgen im Kontext von Informationsmanagement und Information Retrieval vor. Diese Arbeit diskutiert grundlegende Partizipationsformen, präsentiert empirische Studien über Social Tagging, Blogbeiträge sowie Relevanzbeurteilungen und entwickelt Design und Implementierung einer "sozialen" Informationsarchitektur für ein partizipatives Onlinehilfesystem.

    Abstract
    Das 11. Internationale Symposium für Informationswissenschaft (151) findet vom 1. bis 3. April 2009 an der Universität Konstanz statt. Die Tagung ist eine Gemeinschaftsveranstaltung des Hochschulverbandes für Informationswissenschaft (HI) und der IuK-Initiative Wissenschaft.     Abstract
    Information Retrieval ist die Wissenschaft, die Technik und die Praxis des Suchens und Findens von Informationen. Drei Anwendungsfälle zeigen die Relevanz dieser Teildisziplin in der Informationswissenschaft und Informatik: Suchmaschinen im Internet, Recherchewerkzeuge in unternehmensinternen Netzwerken und elektronische Informationsdienste. Das Lehrbuch vermittelt umfassend und auf leicht verständliche Weise grundlegende Kenntnisse über Theorien, Modelle und Anwendungen des Information Retrieval. Stock stellt die Retrievalforschung als einheitliche Wissenschaftsdisziplin dar, die klassische Modelle sowie aktuelle Ansätze des Web Information Retrieval gleichermaßen umfasst.     Abstract
    "Teaching Library" - dies ist nicht nur der Titel dieses Buches, sondern vor allem auch eine selbstbewusste Behauptung in einem Land, in dem die Politik die Bibliotheken als Partner des Lernens noch nicht entdeckt hat, in dem die kommunalen Gremien in Zeiten des Sparens die Ausgaben für Bibliotheken als angeblich freiwillige Leistungen in dem Feld der Kultur neben Museen und Theatern munter kürzen. Dabei belegen die internationalen Studien (PISA, TIMSS etc.) zur Leistungsfähigkeit von Bildungssystemen bereits jetzt schon erhebliche Defizite des deutschen Bildungswesens, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Schlüsselqualifikationen, die unter "Literacy" gefasst werden. Als notwendige Antwort auf dieses Defizit empfehlen die Autoren dieses Buches die viel pointiertere Einbindung der gesamten Bibliotheken in Deutschland in unser Bildungssystem, um sowohl die Unentbehrlichkeit zu unterstreichen, als auch Synergien mit anderen Bildungsträgern zu nutzen. Das vorliegende Buch zeigt eindrucksvoll die erstaunliche Vielfalt der Initiativen und den Einfallsreichtum der Bibliothekare in dieser Hinsicht.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    Das Handbuch zur Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK) ist unverzichtbar und wird angesichts des jahrelangen Bestehens dieser Klassifikation, der großen und weiter wachsenden Zahl ihrer Anwender und ihrem - auch supranational - zunehmenden Bekanntheitsgrad auf neuem Stand benötigt. Daher wird das Handbuch nun in zweiter, überarbeiteter Auflage vorgelegt. Diese Publikation entspricht auch dem Interesse vieler Institutionen an ihrer Bibliothek, vor allem soweit sie sich als Freihandbibliothek im Sinne einer Bestands- und Wissensrepräsentation erweist. Zweifellos bildet die RVK für die moderne Klassifikationspraxis und die Umsetzung der notwendigen Prinzipien ein wesentliches Paradigma. Die einzelnen Fachsystematiken der RVK sind im Handbuch unterschiedlich ausführlich dargestellt und sollen auch in ihrem jeweils verschiedenen Umfang über die Jahrzehnte hin, durchaus differierende Anforderungen der Verbundpartner bei der Optimierung zeigen.

    Abstract
    Der vorliegende Leitfaden zur Vergabe der DDC-Sachgruppen in der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie und dem Neuerscheinungsdienst ersetzt ab Heft 1, Bibliografie-Jahrgang 2004 der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie den 1994 in zweiter Auflage erschienenen Leitfaden "Sachgruppen der Deutschen Nationalbibliographie". Basierend auf diesem Text entstandenTextteil und Register des aktuellen Leitfadens mit Unterstützung der Fachreferentinnen und Fachreferenten Der Deutschen Bibliothek in Frankfurt und Leipzig und der Schweizerischen Landesbibliothek in Bern. Er soll Bibliotheken, Verlagen und Buchhandel in den drei deutschsprachigen Ländern als Hilfsmittel zur sachlichen Zuordnung und Recherche von Neuerscheinungen dienen. Auch die Österreichische Bibliographie und das Schweizer Buch bedienen sich mit geringfügigen Abweichungen der hier vorgestellten DDC-Sachgruppen. In den deutschsprachigen Ländern gehört die Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation bisher nicht zu den im bibliothekarischen Alltag geläufigen Arbeitsinstrumenten. Mit ihrer Übersetzung ins Deutsche und ihrer zunehmenden Nutzung in den nächsten Jahren werden viele der im Folgenden geregelten Sachverhalte bekannter und damit einfacher in der Handhabung. Trotzdem werden sich zusätzliche Anregungen für Eintragungen im Register und Hauptteil dieses Leitfadens im Zuge der laufenden Arbeit damit sicherlich auch in Zukunft ergeben, wie sich auch Fehler und Ungenauigkeiten nicht vermeiden lassen. Für Hinweise, Korrekturen und Ergänzungswünsche sind wir daher dankbar.
