- Abstract
- In many companies, the use of information retrieval systems is substantially augmented by 'word-of-mouth' communication. In such a system individuals use their valuable experience and understanding of one another's needs in order to achieve a very precise filtering and directing of information. The perception which these individuals bring to bear represent a form of corporate knowledge. The RADA (Research And Development Advisor) system has been developed at the University of Sunderland to perform information retrieval in a research and development environment. A component is currently being developed to emulate a word-of-mouth system. This work involves a combination of techniques and themes from the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Supported Cooperative Work to provide a design for a system which will provide a more intuitive form of information storage and retrieval. This paper will describe the architecture and objectives of the RADA system, and report on progress to date with the work
