    Abstract
    Für Webseiten ist, wie für alle interaktiven Anwendungen vom einfachen Automaten bis zur komplexen Software, die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Allerdings wird eine sinnvolle Benutzung von Informationsangeboten im World Wide Web häufig durch "cooles Design" unnötig erschwert, weil zentrale Punkte der Benutzerfreundlichkeit (Usability) vernachlässigt werden. Durch Usability Evaluation kann die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von Webseiten und damit auch die Akzeptanz bei den Benutzern verbessert werden. Ziel ist die Gestaltung von ansprechenden benutzerfreundlichen Webangeboten, die den Benutzern einen effektiven und effizienten Dialog ermöglichen. Das Buch bietet eine praxisorientierte Einführung in die Web Usability Evaluation und beschreibt die Anwendung ihrer verschiedenen Methoden.

    Abstract
    "Wir ertrinken in Informationen, aber uns dürstet nach Wissen." Trendforscher John Naisbitt drückt hiermit aus, dass es dem Menschen heute nicht mehr möglich ist die Informationsflut, die sich über ihn ergießt, effizient zu verwerten. Er lebt in einer globalisierten Welt mit einem vielfältigen Angebot an Medien, wie Presse, Radio, Fernsehen und dem Internet. Die Problematik der mangelnden Auswertbarkeit von großen Informationsmengen ist dabei vor allem im Internet akut. Die Quantität, Verbreitung, Aktualität und Verfügbarkeit sind die großen Vorteile des World Wide Web (WWW). Die Probleme liegen in der Qualität und Dichte der Informationen. Das Information Retrieval muss effizienter gestaltet werden, um den wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Nutzen einer vernetzten Welt zu erhalten.Matthias Erbarth beleuchtet zunächst genau diesen Themenkomplex, um im Anschluss ein Format für elektronische Dokumente, insbesondere kommerzielle Publikationen, zu entwickeln. Dieses Anwendungsbeispiel stellt eine semantische Inhaltsbeschreibung mit Metadaten mittels XML vor, wobei durch Nutzung von Verweisen und Auswertung von Zusammenhängen insbesondere eine netzförmige Darstellung berücksichtigt wird.

Ausgehend von dem barrierebehafteten Design werden an konkreten Beispielen die Probleme bestimmter Nutzergruppen analysiert, zu denen neben den üblicherweise dargestellten Betroffenen auch die Altersgruppe 50plus zählt, die häufig vernachlässigt wird. Weiterhin wird in einzelnen Kapiteln eine Analyse von Barrieren durchgeführt, sowie Maßnahmen zur gezielten Vermeidung von Zugangsblockaden und Zugangserschwernissen aufgezeigt, wobei auch auf multimediale Inhalte und Sonderfälle wie PDF, Flash, und Videos in Deutscher Gebärdensprache eingegangen wird. Eine kurze Beschreibung des Einsatzes von Content-Management-Systemen für barrierefreie Web-Angebote legt den Schwerpunkt auf die Systeme Joomla! und TYPO3.
    Insgesamt zeichnet sich die Kombination von Buch und Web-Site durch einen hohen Praxisbezug aus. Die Texte sind leicht zu lesen, die Sprache ist einfach und verständlich. Zahlreiche farbliche und grafisch gestaltete Randnotizen enthalten Verweise und Erläuterungen und stellen Bezüge her, sowohl zu den Beispielen als auch zu den einzelnen Prüfpunkten der Barrierefreie Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV).     Abstract
    Das Internet verändert den Medienalltag. Damit ist der Computer nicht nur zu einem neuen Informations-, sondern auch zu einem Kommunikationsmedium geworden. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit diesem Hybridmedium, indem insbesondere der Rahmen 'computervermittelter' interpersonaler Kommunikation näher bestimmt und vor dem Hintergrund multipler Medienrahmen verortet wird. Die theoretischen Verortungen werden durch eine empirische Fallstudie ergänzt. Gegenstand der Studie ist die Nutzung der Online-Angebote einer Tageszeitung. Da es sich um die ersten OnlineAktivitäten einer deutschen Tageszeitung überhaupt handelt, hat die Studie für zukünftige Forschungen sogar einen dokumentierenden Charakter.

Die Welten des Cyberspace wurden nach dem Platzen der New Economy-Blase allzu sehr unterschätzt, was dem Gegenstand allerdings einfach nicht gebührt. Gerade weil wir nicht wissen, wohin die Reise geht, kommt es darauf an, diesen Vorteil effizient auszunutzen - wie das geschehen kann, zeigt in der gegenwärtigen deutschen Virtualitätsliteratur niemand anderes besser als der Bonner Publizist Goedart Palm. Fazit: Unbedingt lesen! Wer das nicht tut, verpasst etwas.

    Abstract
    Das Problem der Wahrnehmung und Darstellung von Wahrheit durch die Medien führt zu vier zentralen Fragen: Wie viel Wahrheit gibt es in der Welt, über die Journalisten berichten müssen? Wie ermittelt oder recherchiert man diese Wahrheit? Wie trennt man die Spreu vom Weizen? Und wie geht man als Journalist mit dem um, was man als Wahrheit erkannt hat oder erkannt zu haben glaubt? Hier gibt es ganz offensichtlich eine Parallele zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern. Journalisten und Wissenschaftler brauchen erstens Hypothesen, zweitens geeignete Hypothesentests, drittens ein gutes Abgrenzungs-Kriterium und viertens Verfahren, um die erkannten Sachverhalte auf angemessene Weise für eine Kommunikation mit anderen zu repräsentieren, das heißt sie darzustellen. Es gibt zwei große Unterschiede zwischen Journalisten und Wissenschaftlern: Journalisten sind in der Regel auf raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen aus, Wissenschaftler in der Regel auf raumzeitlich unbegrenzte Gesetze. Aber diese Unterschiede sind fließend, weil Wissenschaftler raum-zeitlich begrenzte Aussagen brauchen, um ihre All-Aussagen zu überprüfen, und Journalisten sich immer häufiger auf das Feld der allgemeinen Gesetzes-Aussagen wagen oder doch zumindest Kausalinterpretationen für soziale Phänomene anbieten. Der zweite Unterschied besteht darin, dass die Wissenschaft weitgehend professionalisiert ist (zumindest gilt dies uneingeschränkt für die Naturwissenschaften und die Medizin), was ihr relativ klare Abgrenzungs- und Güte-Kriterien beschert hat. Diese fehlen weitgehend im Journalismus.

    Abstract
    Das Internet als Netz der Netze repräsentiert eine technische Infrastruktur, auf deren Basis heute eine weltumspannende Kommunikation zwischen Rechnern und zwischen den sie nutzenden Menschen möglich ist. Die Nutzungsformen des Internets sind vielfältig und beeinflussen die verschiedensten Lebensbereiche. Doch was am Internet ist virtuell und was real?     Abstract
    Information ist ein allgegenwärtiger Begriff im Alltag, in den Wissenschaften und in der Philosophie. Heute wird er immer mehr von den Naturwissenschaften als ureigenster Gegenstand reklamiert: Er wird »naturalisiert«. Das Buch zeichnet den Weg nach, wie aus Physik und Mathematik Auffassungen entstehen, die über die Wissenschaftstheorie und die Sprachphilosophie zur Grundlage der Nachrichtentechnik und der Kybernetik werden, um schließlich bei der »Erbinformation« und anderen Naturgegenständen zu landen. So entsteht eine mißverstandene Form des Körper-Geist- Problems: Wie kommen technische Objekte, aber auch Moleküle im menschlichen Genom zu Eigenschaften, die ursprünglich der menschlichen Sprache vorbehalten waren? Dieses Buch korrigiert Mißverständnisse, weist heute übliche Ausdrucksweisen als (teilweise irrtümliche) Metaphern aus und rekonstruiert das menschliche Handeln und Sprechen als Grundlage von technischen und natürlichen Formen der Informationsverarbeitung.

    Abstract
    Die Etablierung einer neuen Medientechnologie erzeugte zu jeder Zeit als Reaktion auf das bis dahin Unbekannte und Neue positive wie negative Zukunftsvisionen. So wurde und wird etwa an das Internet die Erwartung geknüpft, dass die Menschen sich zu neuen Communities zusammenschließen. Derzeit werden im Kontext der Informationstechnologien auch Utopien diskutiert, die von einem veränderten Verhältnis von Mensch und Technik bzw. Umwelt ausgehen. Welche Mythen und Utopien sind in der Geschichte der Informations- und Kommunikationsmedien entstanden und auch heute noch virulent? Was sagen sie über die Welt aus, in der wir leben? Und welche ethischen Perspektiven sind für eine zukünftige Gestaltung der Informations- und Wissensgesellschaften zu berücksichtigen? Der vorliegende Band mit den Beiträgen des sechsten Symposiums zur Medienethik der Stuttgarter Hochschule der Medien wirft einen kritischen Blick auf bestehende Informations- und Kommunikationsutopien und regt dazu an, diese (immer wieder) auf ihre positiven wie negativen Potentiale zu hinterfragen.

    Abstract
    Ob wir spazieren gehen, einkaufen oder uns unterhalten - ständig teilen wir die Lebewesen und Dinge, die uns umgeben, ein in verschiedene Kategorien: Bäume und Blumen, Milchprodukte und Gemüse, sympathische Menschen und unsympathische. So schaffen wir Ordnung und finden uns in der Welt zurecht wie in einer Bibliothek - alles hat seinen Platz. Diese Ordnung kommt ins Wanken, sagt David Weinberger. Unser Denken in festen Kategorien führt uns auf Dauer nicht weiter, wir müssen lernen, mit Chaos, Unordnung und Unschärfe umzugehen. Nur so lässt sich verstehen, warum Projekte wie Wikipedia funktionieren, warum YouTube, Flickr und iTunes so populär und erfolgreich sind. Das ist nicht weniger als eine Revolution: Denn auf einmal verlieren Experten ihre Macht, soziale Netzwerke werden immer einflussreicher, Kunden und Bürger entscheiden selbst, weil sie am besten wissen, was sie wollen. Jeder besorgt sich genau die Informationen, die er braucht, und bringt sie in die Ordnung, die ihm am besten nützt. Ein faszinierendes Panorama der digitalen Welt von einem der profiliertesten Internet-Vordenker.

    Abstract
    Dieses Praxishandbuch mit CD-ROM beschreibt, wie Projektleiter und Drehbuchautor in Teamarbeit ein Drehbuch erstellen, das lernpsychologischen Kriterien und der aktuellen Multimedia-Didaktik entspricht.     Abstract
    Das Screen-Design-Handbuch gibt Gestaltern interaktiver Medien eine praktische Arbeitshilfe an die Hand, um Informationen zielgruppen- und mediengerecht aufzubereiten und darzustellen. Es zeigt Hintergründe und Zusammenhänge auf, verdeutlicht diese anhand von Beispielen und regt dazu an, die Sprache der digitalen Medien weiter zu entwickeln. Grundlagen der Wahrnehmungs- und Lernpsychologie, der Ergonomie, der Kommunikationstheorie, der Imagery-Forschung und der Ästhethik werden dabei ebenso berücksichtigt wie Fragen der Gestaltung von Navigations- und Orientierungselementen.
