- Abstract
- Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

- Der Umfang und die Heterogenität des Informationsangebotes erfordert immer differenzierte Methoden und Hilfsmittel für das gezielte und möglichst ballastfreie Auffinden von Informationsquellen im Kontext eines bestimmten Fachgebietes oder einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurden in der letzten Zeit eine Reihe sog. Subject Gateways entwickelt. Bislang liegen weder viele Untersuchungen zur Qualität derartiger Hilfsmittel vor noch ist eine differenzierte Methodik für solche Bewertungen entwickelt worden. Das Projekt Evaluation von Subject Gateways des Internet (EJECT) verfolgte daher die Ziele: durch Analyse bereits realisierter Subject Gateways die Verwendungsvielfalt des Begriffes aufzuzeigen und zu einer Präzisierung der Begriffsbildung beizutragen; einen methodischen Weg zur qualitativen Bewertung von Subject Gateways aufzuzeigen; diesen Weg anhand einer Evaluation des Subject Gateways EULER zu testen, das im Rahmen eines EU-Projektes für das Fachgebiet Mathematik entwickelt wurde. Die Resultate der Evaluation werden hier in verkürzter Form vorgestellt und es wird aufgezeigt, inwieweit eine Übertragung auf die Bewertung anderer Gateways möglich ist

- Abstract
- Die Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft ist in aller Munde, das Verständnis derselben ist gleichwohl unklar. Unscharf ist auch das Verständnis der zugrunde liegenden Begriffe Information und Wissen sowie des Erwerbs von Information aus den verschiedenen medialen Repräsentationsformen. Allenfalls lässt sich eine gewisse Einseitigkeit bemerken, die durch den informationstechnischen Primat und an der Nachrichtentechnik orientierten Übertragungsformen geprägt ist. Ausgangspunkt der Erörterung ist die Beobachtung, dass Menschen Informationsbedürfnisse besitzen, die sie durch Inanspruchnahme verschiedenster externer Quellen und Hilfsmittel befriedigen wollen. Die neuartigen Speicher- und Findeformen führen zu übersteigerten Erwartungen, wenn man an all die Formulierungen mit virtuell, cyber, Hyper, Multimedia, Information Superhighway etc. denkt. Häufig wird dabei suggeriert, die veränderte mediale Präsentation habe neuartige und bessere Qualitäten für die Rezeption von Information, ohne dass die dabei beteiligten Prozesse völlig verstanden sind. Innerhalb eines konstruktivistischen Modells der kognitiven Informationsverarbeitung und der Rezeption medial gespeicherter Information werden Fragen der Darstellung und Rezeption von Information untersucht.

- Abstract
- Die Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft ist in aller Munde, das Verständnis derselben ist gleichwohl unklar. Unscharf ist auch das Verständnis der zugrunde liegenden Begriffe Information und Wissen sowie des Erwerbs von Information aus den verschiedenen medialen Repräsentationsformen. Allenfalls lässt sich eine gewisse Einseitigkeit bemerken, die durch den informationstechnischen Primat und an der Nachrichtentechnik orientierten Übertragungsformen geprägt ist. Ausgangspunkt der Erörterung ist die Beobachtung, dass Menschen Informationsbedürfnisse besitzen, die sie durch Inanspruchnahme verschiedenster externer Quellen und Hilfsmittel befriedigen wollen. Die neuartigen Speicher- und Findeformen führen zu übersteigerten Erwartungen, wenn man an all die Formulierungen mit virtuell, cyber, Hyper, Multimedia, Information Superhighway etc. denkt. Häufig wird dabei suggeriert, die veränderte mediale Präsentation habe neuartige und bessere Qualitäten für die Rezeption von Information, ohne dass die dabei beteiligten Prozesse völlig verstanden sind. Innerhalb eines konstruktivistischen Modells der kognitiven Informationsverarbeitung und der Rezeption medial gespeicherter Information werden Fragen der Darstellung und Rezeption von Information untersucht.

- Abstract
- Es wird ein Überblick gegeben, wie sich die Veränderungen sich im Bereich der Informationsverarbeitung und -technik auf die Gestaltung von Studienkonzepten im Bereich Wissensorganisation und Information Retrieval in deutschen bibliothekarischen Ausbildungseinrichtungen ausgewirkt haben. Dabei wird unterschieden in Bereiche der Veränderungen und in Bereiche der Stabilität. Die Bereiche der Veränderungen lassen sich den Verfahren und Anwendungen in der Praxis zuordnen. Sie sind zum einen geprägt durch eine integrative Sicht auf Indexierung und Information Retrieval und lassen sich zum anderen durch folgende Trends charakterisieren: - Von Katalogen zu OPACs und WebOPACs - Von der Katalogisierung zum intelligenten Information Retrieval und Suchmaschinen mit benutzerfreundlichen Interaktionsschnittstellen - Vom lokalen Katalog zum kooperativen Erschließen und Retrieval in heterogenen Netzen - Von intellektueller zu automatischer Indexierung - Von Regelwerken zu strukturierten Beschreibungsebenen (z.B. Neu ist es allerdings, die Schnittstelle selbst als ein Bildungsobjekt zu betrachten, das nicht allein vermittelnd zwischen Wissen und Nutzer steht, sondern dessen Eigenschaften selbst wissensrelevant sind. Des weiteren kann diese Schnittstelle nicht mehr individuell für jede Institution gesehen werden, sondern sie besteht aus mehreren Stufen. Deren erste - das World Wide Web - ist eine mediale Ebene mit eigenen Eigenschaften, erst darunter kommt die institutionenbezogene Schnittstelle. Mit dem WWW ist ein Zwischenmedium entstanden ist, das Zugriff auf eine Vielzahl von Anbietern gestattet, die miteinander konkurrieren, die sich mit ihren Leistungsmöglichkeiten werbend präsentieren müssen, die auch probehalber oder mehr oder weniger zufällig aufgesucht werden. In jedem Fall muss sich nun jede Institution, die Präsenz unter dieser Schnittstelle zeigen will, mit den Spielregeln, den Möglich-keiten und Problemen dieser medialen Schnittstelle auseinander setzen. In dieser neuen Situation weichen ehemals scharfe Grenzen zwischen Anbietern auf, entweder weil die Anbieter selbst es so wollen oder weil über die Nutzer explizit oder gemäß einer impliziten Erwartung so agiert wird. Dabei gilt es zu fragen, ob und ggf. wie die Schnittstelle die bisherige Auffassung von der eigenen Rolle im Prozess der Wissensvermittlung verändert, welche Aufgaben fortgeführt werden können, welche verändert, welche mit Partnern verfolgt, welche vielleicht auch aufgegeben werden sollten. Es ist die Frage zu beachten, welches Verhältnis die anbietende Institution zur Schnittstelle haben soll. Soll die Schnittstelle eine Zugangsfunktion für die Institution mit ihren Angeboten bieten? Werden über die Schnittstelle Inhalte der Institution bereitgestellt oder ist sie nur ein Portal als Zugang für Angebote anderer? Ist die Schnittstelle der Selbstbestimmung der Insti-tution nachgeordnet oder soll sie die Identifikationsfunktion für die Institution übernehmen? Vorstehende Fragen spielen für Bibliotheken eine Rolle, da man sie als Anbieter von Materialien ansieht, die als Träger von Information zum Zwecke der Wissensaneignung dienen. Darüber hinaus treten Bibliotheken des öfteren auch in der Rolle von Mediatoren im Prozess der Wissensaneignung auf. Damit stellt sich die Frage nach der Rolle der Bibliotheken für Konzepte des Lebenslangen Lernens und der selbstbestimmten Aneignung von Wissen. Besonders mit dem Konzept der Virtuellen oder Digitalen Bibliothek sind vielfältige Erwartungen geweckt worden, welche Rolle Bibliotheken im Rahmen der Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft spielen können.

- Abstract
- Die Situation der mathematischen Literatur ist geprägt durch Preissteigerungen, die nun - wie vorher schon andere naturwissenschaftliche Fächer - auch die Mathematik erreicht haben. Diese Situation macht es vielen Bibliotheken immer schwerer, die Zahl der Zeitschriftenabonnements aufrecht zu erhalten und eine ausreichende Anzahl relevanter Monographien zu kaufen. Die Situation ist aber auch geprägt durch eine Zunahme der Vielfalt in der Erscheinungsform mathematischer Literatur und der Nachweisinstrumente. Dies bringt manche Änderung mit sich; manchmal mehr Komfort, hin und wieder auch heue Probleme. In diesem Beitrag soll die vor einiger Zeit an anderer Stelle begonnene Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation auf dem Gebiet der Mathematik fortgesetzt und ein Überblick bis zum Jahre 1985 gegeben werden. Leider hat sich an dem schon damals beklagten Zustand der mangelnden Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation in den Naturwissenschaften bis heute nichts geändert. So gibt es zwar die vorzügliche Rubrik von Klaus Schreiber in der Zeitschrift für Bibliothekswesen und Bibliographie, die Naturwissenschaften sind dort aber nicht überrepräsentiert, und auch an anderer Stelle ist kein Ersatz in Sicht; ein angesichts rascher Änderungen auf manchem Gebiet bedauerlicher Zustand. Neben den Neuerungen bei den bekannten Referateorganen sollen die seit einiger Zeit nunmehr auch für die Mathematik online zu recherchierenden Datenbanken erwähnt werden. Berücksichtigen wollen wir diesmal auch die Didaktik der Mathematik und die Statistik. Nicht berücksichtigt werden soll hingegen die Informatik; dieses in den letzten Jahren stark expandierende Gebiet mit einer Reihe von Besonderheiten in der fachlich relevanten Literatur (Produkt-Literatur, Firmenschriften, Software-Bibliotheken u.a.) verdient eine eigene Darstellung. Darüberhinaus wollen wir versuchen, einige weitere nützliche Hinweise für den Umgang mit mathematischer Literatur zu geben.

- Abstract
- Evit@ stellt ein Bewertungsinstrument bereit, mit dessen Hilfe qualitative Aussagen über elektronische Informationsmittel möglich werden. Eine Stärke des Verfahrens liegt auf der vergleichenden Produktanalyse und auf einem weitgehend entindividualisierten Ansatz. Das entwickelte Kriteriensystem geht in seiner Differenziertheit über alle bisherigen Ansätze hinaus. Das Verfahren der produkttypenbezogenen Gewichtung eignet sich besonders bei der quantifizierenden Beschreibung aller wesentlichen Eigenschaften und Leistungsmerkmale elektronischer Informationsmittel. Über eine eigens entwikkelte Softwarekomponente kann das Bewertungsergebnis sowohl auf jede einzelne Kategorie bezogen als auch in Form eines kondensierten Endergebnisses dargestellt werden. Diese Ergebnisse bieten im Sinne eines Qualitätsurteils Hilfestellung für Auswahl und Kaufentscheidungen. Für Produzenten elektronischer Informationsmittel kann Evit@ darüber hinaus als Checkliste zur Qualitätssicherung eingesetzt werden.

- Abstract
- In diesem Beitrag beabsichtigen wir, einen Überblick über den derzeitigen Stand der bibliothekarischen Klassifikationstheorie zu geben. Die Darstellung ist angelehnt an die 1985 erschienene Norm DIN 32 705,Erstellung und Weiterentwicklung von Klassifikationssystemen', stellt jedoch die Problematik bibliothekarischer Klassifikationssysteme in den Vordergrund. In einem zweiten Teil beschäftigen wir uns mit Problemen von Klassifikationssystemen in typischen bibliothekarischen Anwendungsbereichen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf dem Online-Katalog; es wird ein Vorschlag zur Verwendung von Facettenklassifikationen diskutiert. Abschließend werden Fragen der kooperativen klassifikatorischen Inhaltserschließung gestreift.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag nimmt aktuelle Entwicklungen im Teilbereich Formalerschließung in Deutschland zum Anlass, eine kritische Reflexion über den Zustand und die Weiterentwicklung des Themenfeldes Erschließung insgesamt anzustellen. Es werden einige historische Beispiele gegeben, die die Ausstrahlung bibliothekarischer Ideen und Problemlösungen auf das allgemeine Leben zeigen. Diese Ausstrahlung wird dem Eindruck entgegen gesetzt, dass sich gegenwärtig der bibliothekarische Berufsstand insbesondere im Bereich informationstechnischer Anwendungen die zu beachtenden fachlichen Standards lieber von anderen vorgeben lässt, als sich selbst um deren Weiterentwicklung zu bemühen.
