    Abstract
    Google hat im Oktober wieder neue Funktionen vorgestellt. Die bedeutendste davon ist die Desktopsuche (http://desktop.google.com), die EMails, Office-Dokumente und bereits besuchte Webseiten durchsucht. - Auf der deutschen Google-Seite wurden neue Shortcuts integriert. Schließlich gibt es in den "Google Labs" eine neue Suche per SMS.

    Abstract
    Die meisten Nutzer verwenden für ihre Recherchen ausschließlich Google. Allerdings zeigt sich gerade bei komplexeren Anfragen, dass diese Suchmaschine nicht immer am geeignetsten ist. Die Autorin Tara Calishain stellt in einem kostenlos verfügbaren Paper (http://www. researchbuzz.com/FourThingsFinal .pdf) vier Arten von Suchanfragen vor, die nicht mit Google, wohl aber mit Yahoo gestellt werden können. Vor allem für Webmaster sind die umfangreichen Möglichkeiten der Linksuche interessant. Für andere Profi-Rechercheure bieten sich bessere Möglichkeiten der Domainbeschränkung und die Möglichkeit, längere Suchanfragen zu formulieren.

    Abstract
    Seit dem es das Web gibt, seit dem gibt es Suchmaschinen und ebenso Klagen über quantitativ und qualitativ unzureichende Suchergebnisse, schlechte Rankingverfahren und so weiter. Auch die Entwicklung von Meta-Suchmaschinen hat daran nicht viel geändert. Und alle Ansätze, die darauf setzten, dass die Seitenersteller oder die Nutzer selbst sich im Umgang mit dem Web qualifizieren, sind bislang gescheitert. Dennoch gibt es neue und Erfolg versprechende Verbesserungen, die sich die Suchenden zunutze machen können
