    Abstract
    Der Umfang und die Heterogenität des Informationsangebotes erfordert immer differenzierte Methoden und Hilfsmittel für das gezielte und möglichst ballastfreie Auffinden von Informationsquellen im Kontext eines bestimmten Fachgebietes oder einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. Um dieses Ziel zu errei-chen, wurden in der letzten Zeit eine Reihe sog. Subject Gateways entwickelt. Bislang liegen weder viele Untersuchungen zur Qualität derartiger Hilfsmittel vor noch ist eine differenzierte Methodik für solche Bewertungen entwickelt worden. Das Projekt Evaluation von Subject Gateways des Internet (EJECT) verfolgte daher die Ziele:· Durch Analyse bereits realisierter Subject Gateways die Verwendungsvielfalt des Begriffes aufzuzeigen und zu einer Präzisierung der Begriffsbildung beizutragen; Einen methodischen Weg zur qualitativen Bewertung von Subject Gateways aufzuzeigen;· Diesen Weg anhand einer Evaluation des Subject Gateways EULER zu testen, das im Rahmen eines EU-Projektes für das Fachgebiet Mathematik entwickelt wurde. Die Resultate der Evaluation werden in dieser Studie ausführlich vorgestellt und es wird aufgezeigt, inwieweit eine Übertragung auf die Bewertung anderer Gateways möglich ist.

    Abstract
    Evit@ stellt ein Bewertungsinstrument bereit, mit dessen Hilfe qualitative Aussagen über elektronische Informationsmittel möglich werden. Eine Stärke des Verfahrens liegt auf der vergleichenden Produktanalyse und auf einem weitgehend entindividualisierten Ansatz. Das entwickelte Kriteriensystem geht in seiner Differenziertheit über alle bisherigen Ansätze hinaus. Das Verfahren der produkttypenbezogenen Gewichtung eignet sich besonders bei der quantifizierenden Beschreibung aller wesentlichen Eigenschaften und Leistungsmerkmale elektronischer Informationsmittel. Über eine eigens entwikkelte Softwarekomponente kann das Bewertungsergebnis sowohl auf jede einzelne Kategorie bezogen als auch in Form eines kondensierten Endergebnisses dargestellt werden. Diese Ergebnisse bieten im Sinne eines Qualitätsurteils Hilfestellung für Auswahl und Kaufentscheidungen. Für Produzenten elektronischer Informationsmittel kann Evit@ darüber hinaus als Checkliste zur Qualitätssicherung eingesetzt werden.

    Abstract
    Immer häufiger werden das System 'Internet', die dort genutzten Programmfunktionen und Werkzeuge sowie die damit zugänglichen Informationsangebote in Fachdiskussionen und -veröffentlichungen vorgestellt. Als einführende Hilfsmittel und Ratgeber zur Information über dieses Netzwerk sowie zur eigentlichen Nutzung von Internet sind (neben in elektronischer Form vorliegenden Publikationen) mittlerweile mehrere einführende Printveröffentlichungen in englischer Sprache auf dem Markt. Drei dieser Publikationen werden im vorliegenden Artikel ausführlicher vorgestellt und bewertet. Zum besseren Verständnis des sachlichen Zusammenhangs ist der Rezension ein knapp gefaßter Überblick über die unter dem Begriff 'Internet' zusammengefaßten Funktionen und Informationsangebote vorangestellt.

    Abstract
    Bislang gibt es zum Thema "Personal Digital Archiving" (PDA) nur wenige deutschsprachige Informationen und Handlungsanleitungen. In den USA haben sich hingegen die Library of Congress und die American Library Association des Themas angenommen. Der Beitrag erläutert die Entstehung, das Konzept und die Zielsetzung von PDA und skizziert die Möglichkeit, PDA zu einem Angebot Öffentlicher Bibliotheken zu entwickeln. Beispielhaft greift er dabei auch auf Erfahrungen aus einem Projekt zurück, das die TH Köln in Kooperation mit der Stadtbibliothek Köln durchführte.

    Abstract
    Im Rahmen von 30 Fallstudien wurden von Praktikern aus dem Bibliotheks- und Informationsbereich - unter Bezugnahme auf den Bedarf zukünftiger Nutzergruppen aus ihrem Arbeitsumfeld - wesentliche Eigenschaften digitaler Objekte für die Langzeitarchivierung ermittelt. Diese Ergebnisse wurden mit den im Rahmen des InSPECT-Projektes ermittelten Objekttypen und den für sie als wesentlich erachteten Eigenschaften verglichen. Die Ergebnisse der Fallstudien zeigen, dass für die Langzeitarchivierung solcher Objekte, die von InSPECT in Betracht gezogenen Objekttypen erweitert bzw. differenziert werden sollten. Die Definition der wesentlichen Eigenschaften dieser Objekttypen kann nach den vorliegenden Ergebnissen noch nicht als stabil bezeichnet werden.

    Abstract
    Am 2./3. November 2006 fand in der südindischen IT-Metropole Bangalore ein Workshops statt, zu dem Teilnehmer aus den Ländern Indien, China, Südafrika und Brasilien eingeladen waren. Ziel des Workshops war zu verdeutlichen, welche Vorteile insbesondere Wissenschaftler und wissenschaftliche Einrichtungen, aber auch Informationsfachleute und nicht zuletzt Verleger durch Open Access (OA) haben können. Darüber hinaus wurde die Verabschiedung einer Selbstverpflichtung vorbereitet, die nun als "Bangalore Commitment" in einer Entwurfsfassung in den einschlägigen OAForen diskutiert wird. Hierbei wurde insbesondere auf die sog. Berliner Erklärung Bezug genommen. Die Schwerpunktsetzung auf "developing countries", also sog. Entwicklungsländer bzw. Schwellenländer, bringt eine spezifischer Perspektive in die Umsetzung des Open Access-Konzeptes. Durch den Aufbau gemeinsamer OA-Infrastrukturen und den Erfahrungsaustausch über das OA-Konzept soll die Sichtbarkeit der wissenschaftlichen Forschung und Entwicklung in den jeweiligen Ländern erhöht bzw. ihre Wahrnehmung in anderen Ländern z.T. erst ermöglicht werden. Umgekehrt will man aber auch durch diese Zusammenarbeit die OA-Bewegung weltweit stimulieren.

    Informationsangebote im Internet sind immer häufiger nicht nur Referenzinformationen, sondern Textinformationen. Somit ist es die von den Interessenten gewünschte Information selbst, die als Textpublikation oder als Ausschnitt aus einer solchen Publikation mit den entsprechenden Retrieval- und Anzeigeinstrumenten direkt bereitgestellt wird. Diese Texte haben ganz unterschiedliche Entstehungszusammenhänge. Sie werden z.B. speziell und gezielt als Internet-Informationsangebote neu erstellt. als wissenschaftliche Publikationen im Interesse leichter und schneller Verbreitung in Form von Preprints oder Parallelpublikationen über das Netz bereitgestellt oder als elektronische Reprints wissenschaftlich Interessierten erneut und in neuer Form zur Verfügung gestellt.     Abstract
    Document Delivery oder Dokumentlieferung ist jene Dienstleistung in der Vermittlung wissenschaftlicher Ergebnisse, die lange Zeit als zentrale Alternative zur nationalen und insbesondere internationalen Fernleihe galt. Sie war häufig nur gegen relativ hohes Entgelt und damit faktisch eingeschränkt verfügbar. Entwicklungen in den 90erJahren haben diese Situation deutlich verändert. Der nachfolgende Beitrag verdeutlicht die strukturellen Eckpunkte heutiger Dokumentlieferangebote.
