- Abstract
- In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden 4 Abfrageoberflächen unterschiedlicher Retrievalsysteme, die für die Mitarbeiter des Umweltbundesamtes Berlin zugänglich sind, im Hinblick auf Nutzerfreundlichkeit und intuitiver Bedienbarkeit vergleichend untersucht. Der 'Einfachdialog' und die Oberfläche der 'Umwelt-CD' greifen auf die Datenbestände der Umweltdatenbanken zu. Berücksichtigt werden hierbei die Oberflächen zur Recherche in ULIDAT und UFORDAT. Das Metadatensystem UDK (Umweltdatenkatalog) wird in der PC-Version, dem 'UDK-UBA', und in der WWW-Variante in die Untersuchung einbezogen

- Abstract
- Das vorliegende Buch befaßt sich mit der theoretischen Begründung, Gestaltung und empirischen Bewertung eines Datenbankzugangs durch graphisches Retrieval. Der Autor stellt das Informationssystem Wing-Graph vor, das am Beispiel Werkstoffdaten die Veränderung von Liniendiagrammen durch graphische Aktionen in der benutzeroberfläche zur Recherche nach numerischer Information erlaubt. Darunter ist eine graphische Recherchesprache zu verstehen, mit der man visuelles Denken direkt für die Suche nutzen kann. Der Autor entwickelt auf der Basis kognitionspsychologischer Erkenntnisse über Wahrnehmung und Interpretation von Informationsgraphiken ein Modell des graphischen Retrieval, in dem 3 wichtige Aspekte der Interaktion mit graphischer Information vereinigt sind: die visuelle Vorstellungsfähigkeit, der Handlungsaspekt der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion und die Systemfunktionalität einer graphischen Datenbankschnittstelle. Im Vergleich mit traditionellen Abfragesprachen stehen in Wing-Graph einfache, aber leistungsfähige graphische Operationen zur Verfügung, die das visuelle Denken des Benutzers operationalisieren. Die Generalisierbarkeit des Ansatzes für andere Domänen wird untersucht und in exemplarischer Weise an Wirtschaftsdaten überprüft

- Abstract
- Die Formulierung der Anfrage in Dokument-Retrievalsystemen stellt insbesondere ungeübte Anwender immer noch vor vehemente Probleme. Vor allem bei der Verwendung von Booleschen Operatoren, die eine sehr spezifische Anfrage ermöglichen, kommt es regelmäßig zu krassen Fehlformulierungen. Der Einsatz von Visualisierung kann hier unterstützend wirken und dem Anwender einen intuitiveren Zugang zum Retrievalsystem bieten, als es formalsprachliche Anfragesysteme tun. In diesem Artikel werden verschiedenen Realisierungen einer solchen Visualisierung vorgestellt und besprochen. Auf der Basis dieser Realisierung werden einige Grundfragen bezüglich der Gestaltung einer Visualisierung der Recherche diskutiert. Abschließend wird ein System vorgestellt, das am IZ Sozialwissenschaften, Bonn, unter Aspekten der Softwareergonomie und des Medien Design geschaffen wurde

- Abstract
- Wie geht der Mensch mit komplexen Computersystemen um? Wovon hängt die Effizienz der Interaktion ab? Ausgehend von Erkenntnissen der kognitiven Psychologie charakterisiert das Buch den Gestaltungsspielraum beim Entwurf interaktiver Systeme und erläutert die Anwendung verschiedener Interaktionstechniken und -stile. - Zunächst werden grundlegende Konzepte der Interaktion anhand von Beispielen aus dem alltäglichen Leben, wie Auto und Telefon, behandelt. Aus der nachfolgenden Problemanalyse werden Entwurfsprinzipien abgeleitet und in einem technischen Teil allgemeine Konzepte der Arbeitsweise von Fenstersystemen und deren Bestandteile detailliert erläutert: Fenster, Icons, Menüs, Zeigegeräte. Es wird argumentiert, daß der Prozeß der Entwicklung interaktiver Systeme stark iterativ ist und Zyklen aus Analyse, Entwurf und Testverfahren enthält. Konkrete Methoden für diese Schritte werden erläutert, wobei Testverfahren, Methoden zur Spezifikation interaktiver Systeme und Werkzeuge, die die Entwicklung unterstützen, einen breiten Raum einnehmen. Umfassend werden im abschließenden Teil moderne Anwendungsfelder, wie die Interaktion mit sehr großen Datenmengen (die Visualisierung großer Informationsräume), die Interaktion im WWW und die Interaktion mit 3D-Daten (die Entwicklung von 3D-Widgets), behandelt. Lehrbuch mit hohem Praxisbezug: Fallbeispiele aus der industriellen Praxis mit umsetzbaren Hinweisen und Methoden zur Entwicklung und Evaluierung interaktiver Systeme zugeschnitten auf die konstruktiven Aspekte der Interaktion Mensch - Computer mit hochaktuellen Themen wie die Entwicklung von 3D-Widgets und die Visualisierung großer Informationsräume mit hilfreichen gründlichen, oft tabellarischen Zusammenfassungen und einem ausführlichen Glossar zusätzlicher Service: auf einer zu dem Buch eingerichteten Web-Site stehen Folien zur Verfügung

- Virtuelle Welten - eine neue Dimension in Datennetzen. Neben der Möglichkeit, sich mit Hilfe von Datenhandschuh und -helm in computergenerierten Räumen zu bewegen und Abenteuer zu erleben, bilden virtuelle Räume im WWW eine erweiterte Navigations- und Präsentationsmöglichkeit für Informationssysteme. - Abstract
- Das System HYPERQUERY ist ein Informationssystem, das Benutzern den Zugriff auf stark vernetzte multimediale Informationen erleichtern soll. Hierzu wurde ein Hypertext- bzw. Hypermediasystem um eine Anfragekomponente erweitert, die den gezielten Einstieg in eine objektorientierte Datenbasis erleichtert. Das System soll insbesondere Gelegenheitsbenutzern ermöglichen, Reiseinformationen abzurufen. Der Benutzerschnittstelle fällt dabei eine wichtige Rolle zu. Die Implementierungen zweier unterschiedlicher graphischer Benutzeroberflächen der Anfragekomponente werden vorgestellt und diskutiert
