- Auch auf die großen wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken kommen dadurch, daß im Internet in zunehmendem Maße fachlich relevante Informationen bereitgestellt werden, neue Aufgaben zu. - Abstract
- Das Internet ist im Alltag angekommen. Die hier versammelten 14 Studien belegen dies eindeutig. Je nach Lebenswelt und Habitus schreiben die Nutzer dem Internet aber einen unterschiedlichen "praktischen Sinn" zu: Jugendliche suchen online nach ihrer Identität, Computerspieler nach Wettkampf, Spiegel Online-Leser nach einem Meinungsmacher und Arbeitslose nach Selbstbestätigung. Während eine umfassende qualitative Studie (Basis: 102 Deutsche ab 14 Jahren) ganz allgemein nach dem Internet "im Alltag" fragt, beschäftigen sich die anderen Beiträge entweder mit unterschiedlichen Lebenswelten (Kinder, Jugendliche, Studenten, junge Mütter, Homosexuelle und Arbeitslose) oder mit speziellen Internetangeboten (StudiVZ, süddeutsche.de, Spiegel Online, Twitter, Blogs, World of Warcraft und Counterstrike). Theoretische Klammer ist das Habitus-Kapital-Konzept von Bourdieu.

Daß dieser Band auch in seiner Themenfülle und -vielfalt nicht alles Aspekte dieses komplexen neuen Mediums würde aufgreifen können, und daß auch mit der rasanten Weiterentwicklung des Mediums das Thema damit noch keinesfalls 'abgehakt' sein würde, kristallisierte sich schon zu dem Zeitpunkt seiner Entstehung heraus. Eine Fortsetzung, Vertiefung und Erweiterung also war dringend geboten und wird hier vorgelegt - freilich ohne die Illusion, damit alle Aspekte gar erschöpfend behandeln zu können, wohl aber in der Hoffnung, einige Arbeits- und Orientierungshilfen in den wichtigsten Bereichen zu geben

- Abstract
- Für Webseiten ist, wie für alle interaktiven Anwendungen vom einfachen Automaten bis zur komplexen Software, die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von zentraler Bedeutung. Allerdings wird eine sinnvolle Benutzung von Informationsangeboten im World Wide Web häufig durch "cooles Design" unnötig erschwert, weil zentrale Punkte der Benutzerfreundlichkeit (Usability) vernachlässigt werden. Durch Usability Evaluation kann die Benutzerfreundlichkeit von Webseiten und damit auch die Akzeptanz bei den Benutzern verbessert werden. Ziel ist die Gestaltung von ansprechenden benutzerfreundlichen Webangeboten, die den Benutzern einen effektiven und effizienten Dialog ermöglichen. Das Buch bietet eine praxisorientierte Einführung in die Web Usability Evaluation und beschreibt die Anwendung ihrer verschiedenen Methoden.
