    Abstract
    Der Autor geht der Frage nach dem Einfluß der Normung auf die Kommunikationstechnik und ihrer sozialen Akzeptanz nach.     Abstract
    Jeder Mensch kommuniziert. Das macht ihn zum homo sapiens mit Verstand und Sinn, zugleich bereitet ihm Kommunikation viele Probleme. Als Massenkommunikation über Medien ist Kommunikation längst zu Markt, Produktionsfaktor und gesellschaftlicher Macht geworden. Ständig kommen neue Medien hinzu, die Kommunikation verbreiten, vervielfältigen, erleichtern und verschönern wollen. Doch auch deren Zeichen und Botschaften müssen jeweils kommuniziert werden. So ist Kommunikation sowohl ein geläufiges, mitunter leeres Schlagwort wie auch ein spannendes und bedeutendes Denk- und Handlungsfeld, mit dem sich jeder im Alltag, aber auch fast alle Wissenschaftsdisziplinen befassen. Das Studienbuch will in dieses komplexe, kaum abgrenzbare Feld mit all seinen Aspekten einführen und zieht dazu möglichst viele Erklärungsansätze der Wissenschaften heran. Mehrfach wird die individuelle Reflexion angesprochen. So soll die persönliche, immer schon vorhandene kommunikative Kompetenz ebenso erkundet werden, wie sich wichtige theoretische Konzepte und empirische Befunde vorstellen lassen

    Abstract
    Das Internet verändert den Medienalltag. Damit ist der Computer nicht nur zu einem neuen Informations-, sondern auch zu einem Kommunikationsmedium geworden. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit diesem Hybridmedium, indem insbesondere der Rahmen 'computervermittelter' interpersonaler Kommunikation näher bestimmt und vor dem Hintergrund multipler Medienrahmen verortet wird. Die theoretischen Verortungen werden durch eine empirische Fallstudie ergänzt. Gegenstand der Studie ist die Nutzung der Online-Angebote einer Tageszeitung. Da es sich um die ersten OnlineAktivitäten einer deutschen Tageszeitung überhaupt handelt, hat die Studie für zukünftige Forschungen sogar einen dokumentierenden Charakter.

    Abstract
    CyberMedienWirklichkeit ist ein Buch, welches man nicht mehr so schnell aus der Hand legt. Wir bewegen uns heutzutage mehr in der Virtualität, als mancher es für möglich hält. Wirklichkeit ist kein fester Begriff mehr, den man sich sicher sein sollte; Wirklichkeit ist ein Netz voller Spannungen und Gegenspannungen, die erst in der Konstruktion dieser ihre Existenz konstituieren. Die Welten des Cyberspace wurden nach dem Platzen der New Economy-Blase allzu sehr unterschätzt, was dem Gegenstand allerdings einfach nicht gebührt. Gerade weil wir nicht wissen, wohin die Reise geht, kommt es darauf an, diesen Vorteil effizient auszunutzen - wie das geschehen kann, zeigt in der gegenwärtigen deutschen Virtualitätsliteratur niemand anderes besser als der Bonner Publizist Goedart Palm. Fazit: Unbedingt lesen! Wer das nicht tut, verpasst etwas.

    Abstract
    Als "Technopol" bezeichnet Postman die Beherrschung einer Zivilisation durch Technik und technizistisches Denken, eine Entwicklung, die der New Yorker Medien-Prof. in den USA am weitesten fortgeschritten sieht. Die Folgen für Individuum und Gesellschaft illustriert er, wie immer in glänzender Diktion und mit sarkastischem Witz, u.a. an der Informationsschwemme, der Apparate-Medizin und der Computertechnologie. Das Schlusskapitel, immerhin, weckt ein Fünkchen Hoffnung auf möglichen Widerstand. Postmans neue Streitschrift (mit Anmerkungen, Bibliographie), thematisch an "Die Verweigerung der Hörigkeit" anknüpfend, reicht weder an die grossen Zeitdiagnosen eines G. Anders heran noch an J. Weizenbaums grundlegende Analyse der "Macht der Computer". Dennoch dürfen Postmans zeitgemässe Kassandrarufe inzwischen allgemeiner Aufmerksamkeit sicher sein.

    Wie gelingt es, eine Agenda durchzusetzen, deren zerstörerische Folgen keinem unverstellten Blick entgehen können? Und wie ist es möglich, in der Migrations-, Klima- und Identitätspolitik die Evidenz des Augenscheinlichen dauerhaft außer Kraft zu setzen? Schlüssel zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen ist die Macht der Sprache, die zum Gängelband unseres Denkens, Wahrnehmens und Fühlens geworden ist. Michael Esders inspiziert das Schlachtfeld der Begriffe und Metaphern, das sich auf alle Lebensbereiche ausgeweitet hat. Der Literaturwissenschaftler dechiffriert die "Wahrheitssysteme" (Michael Kretschmer) der deutschen Politik, die sich über alle diskursiven Gepflogenheiten hinwegsetzen. Er entziffert die Narrative der Willkommenskultur und des menschengemachten Klimawandels, in denen Haltungen über den Common Sense, Mythen über Theorien triumphieren. Das mächtigste Sprachregime der Gegenwart hat die postmoderne Linke etabliert, die das in der Deutung von Texten erprobte Verfahren der Dekonstruktion auf die Politik überträgt. In der "Matrix der Differenz" stehen alle Formen der Identität und des kollektiven Selbst nicht nur unter Generalverdacht, sondern werden undenkbar. Nur wer das semantische Betriebssystem des Sprachregimes entschlüsselt, kann seine Macht brechen. Dazu möchte dieses Buch beitragen.

Schweibenz): "Im Rahmen seiner Mitarbeit im DFG-Projekt Geschichte und Systematik der digitalen Medien (2001 bis 2004) am Seminar für Ästhetik des Fachbereichs Kulturwissenschaft der Humboldt-Universität Berlin hat sich Stefan Heidenreich intensiv mit dem technischem Fortschritt und seinen kulturellen Folgen befasst. Daraus resultiert sein Buch "Flip Flop", das seinen Titel einer Schaltung beim ersten amerikanischen Digitalrechner ENIAC verdankt, der nach den Erfindern "Eccles-Jordan-Trigger" oder kurz "Flipflop" genannt wurde. Die Wahl des Titels ist wegweisend, denn die Bezeichnung Flipflop benenne, so Heidenreich, den Wechsel zwischen zwei Zuständen, wobei das Bemerkenswerte an dieser Schaltung gerade darin liege, dass dieser Wechsel nicht in einem festen Rhythmus wie bei Oszillatoren oder Taktgebern vollzogen werde, sondern nur dann, wenn ein Impuls eintrete und zu einer Veränderung führe - dies gelte, so Heidenreich, auch für das Verhältnis von Medien und Kultur. So zieht sich das Thema des Impulses wie ein roter Faden durch das Buch. In seiner zentralen These behauptet Heidenreich, dass jede neue Technologie am Anfang leer sei und damit auch das Nutzungspotenzial völlig offen sei und sich häufig in krassem Gegensatz zu den Vorstellungen der Erfinder oder frühen Nutzer entwickle, wenn ein entsprechender Impuls eintrete. Diese These belegt Heidenreich unterhaltsam mit kurios anmutenden Geschichten über historische Fehleinschätzungen der Verwendung des Computers in Unternehmen und im privaten Bereich bis hin zur New Economy. Am Beispiel der frühen Fonografie und Fotografie führt er aus, was passiert, wenn Technologie und Kommunikation aufeinander treffen, das heißt, wenn eine Technologie das Labor verlässt, sich im Alltag bewähren muss und nach einer Phase der Standardisierung eine kritische Masse von Inhalten entwickelt, die das Medium attraktiv machen und zur Herausbildung einer eigenen Medienkultur führt, die wiederum den Ablauf der weiteren technologischen Entwicklung beeinflusst. Nach Ausflügen in die Vergangenheit der Medien widmet sich Heidenreich dem zentralen Anliegen seines Buches, das den Zusammenhängen zwischen Datenströmen und der Kultur gilt.
    Heidenreich hält die Trennung von Technik und Inhalt bei der Betrachtung von Datenübertragung in Computernetzwerken für nicht hilfreich bezüglich des Verständnisses derjenigen Prozesse, die die Nutzung eines Mediums erklären. Weit interessanter findet er das Modell der Attraktion, das davon ausgeht, dass die anfänglich leeren Technologien der Kommunikation sich allmählich für Informationen als attraktiv erweisen, ähnlich wie eine neue Straße den Verkehr anzieht. Für Heidenreich sind auch die großen kulturellen Datenströme Resultat solcher Prozesse der Attraktion, wie er am Beispiel des World Wide Web beschreibt. Aus diesen Datenströmen und ihrer Attraktivität ergeben sich wiederum kulturelle und ökonomische Konsequenzen, weil Computernetzwerke ein universelles Medium darstellen, das nicht wie andere Techniken für ganz bestimmte Medientypen entworfen wurde, wie etwa Film und Photographie für Bilder oder Schallplatten für Töne. Hierin liege, so Heidenreich das besondere Potenzial der Computernetzwerke, wenn man bedenkt, dass Geräte, die für einen bestimmten Zweck entworfen worden seien, sich später aber für ganz andere Informationen als attraktiv erwiesen hätten. Die Konsequenzen der Datenströme werden interessant, wenn es um das Zusammenspiel von Technik, Ökonomie und Kultur geht. Bei den kulturellen Datenströmen geht Heidenreich von einem Primat der Bindung über die Bedeutung aus, die durch Technisierung, Vernetzung und Konsum entsteht. Er verdeutlicht dies am Beispiel der Suchmaschine Google, die die Bedeutung einer Web-Adresse aus der Zahl der darauf verweisenden Links ermittelt. In vergleichbarer Form könnten sich eine Bindungswirkung und damit eine Bewertung der Bedeutung zwischen kulturellen Inhalten ergeben. Durch so genannte Ich-Formate, die den Benutzern Möglichkeiten einer Interaktion und einer Identität im digitalen Raum des Internets geben, wird auch der Benutzer in diese Bindungen einbezogen und Teil der Datenströme und damit der digitalen Ökonomie, was Heidenreich kritisch bewertet. Dabei bezieht er sich stark auf die Thesen von Jeremy Rifkin und dessen Buch "Access - Das Verschwinden des Eigentums" (Fischer-Taschenbuch, 2002, ISBN 3-596-15620-3). In seinem Buch gelingt es Heidenreich, überzeugend und anschaulich seine Hauptthese zu belegen, dass aus der gegenwärtigen Anwendung einer Technologie nicht auf ihre zukünftige Einsatzmöglichkeiten geschlossen werden könne, weil diese sich erst im Umgang mit ihr entwickle. Auch wenn man die einzelnen Unterthesen und Schlussfolgerungen von Heidenreich nicht in allen Punkten befürworten oder teilen mag, bietet das Buch doch in unterhaltsamer Form Anregungen zum Nachdenken und zur eigenen Auseinandersetzung mit den Datenströmen und der Kultur des 21. Jahrhunderts, an der wir alle teilhaben und die wir mitgestalten."

    Abstract
    In ihrer mittlerweile klassisch gewordenen Arbeit haben Peter L. Berger und Thomas Luckmann die Wissenssoziologie auf eine neue Basis gestellt. Mit dem begrifflichen Instrumentarium von Philosophie, Anthropologie, Sozialpsychologie und Sprachwissenschaft gehen sie der Frage nach, durch welche Prozesse sich für die Mitglieder von Gesellschaften eine intersubjektiv geteilte, gemeinsame Wirklichkeit herausbildet: wie die Formen der Vermittlung zwischen der objektiven Wirklichkeit der Gesellschaft, die durch soziale Interaktionen hervorgebracht, institutionell verstetigt und in vielfältiger Weise tradiert wird, und die subjektiven Bildungsprozesse der beteiligten individuen zu verstehen sind.

    Abstract
    Walter Lippmann gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Propagandisten des Neoliberalismus und einer gelenkten Demokratie, der dem marktradikalen Denken zum Siegeszug verhalf. Lippmanns 1922 erschienenes Buch "Public Opinion" gilt als ein Klassiker in Sachen Manipulation und Beeinflussung der öffentlichen Meinung. Von ihm wurde der Begriff "Kalter Krieg" geprägt und in den allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch gebracht. Weil die Durchschnittsbürger in einer Demokratie damit überfordert sind, komplexe gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge zu durchschauen, entwickelte er das Konzept einer gelenkten Demokratie, um die Meinung der Masse mit Hilfe manipulativer Techniken zu steuern. Seine Methoden der Meinungsbeeinflussung sind heute aktueller denn je.
