    Abstract
    Thesen: (1) Die Definitionsmacht über die Funktion von Bibliothekskatalogen liegt bei den Bibliothekaren - nicht bei ihren Kunden. Die noch heute gültige, von Charles A. Cutter formulierte Funktion von Bibliothekskatalogen stammt aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Sie entspricht dem bibliothekarischen Bedürfnis nach Verwaltung des vorhandenen Buchbestandes. (2) Gleichzeitig stehen vor allem öffentliche Bibliotheken unter Legitimationsdruck. Ihr öffentlicher Auftrag ist u.a. die Leseförderung; ein wesentlicher Leistungsindikator ist die Ausleihstatistik. (3) Bibliothekskataloge könnten ein Werkzeug der Förderung beider Ziele sein. Ihr Design und die in ihnen enthaltene Information sollte deshalb - wie Warenkataloge - absatzorientiert und an den Informationsinteressen der Kunden orientiert sein. (4) Partizipation der Kunden bei der Gestaltung von Bibliothekskatalogen ist ein Weg, in einen intensiven Kommunikationsprozess zwischen Entwicklern, Bibliothekaren und Kunden einzutreten, dabei eine gemeinsame Sprache zu finden und mehr über die Interessen und Bedürfnisse der Kunden in Erfahrung zu bringen. (5) Kinder sind wichtige Kunden öffentlicher Bibliotheken. Bücher-Reise, für 8-11jährige Kinder, ist ein Kundenkatalog. Er entstand unter Partizipation von Kindern. Benutzerpartizipation: Ein flexibles Modell der partizipativen Softwareentwicklung ist STEPS (Softwaretechnik für evolutionäre partizipative Systementwicklung). Im Rahmen der Entwicklung von Bücher-Reise wurde das Konzept 'Benutzer' neu reflektiert und führte zu einer Trennung zwischen ,Benutzer-Anwälten' (hier: Bibliothekare) und 'Benutzern' (hier: Kinder) - und zwar dann, wenn Kunden über keine bewussten domainspezifischen Vorstellungen verfügen. Im Rahmen der Entwicklung von Bücher-Reise wurden verschiedene Methoden der Partizipation von Kindern bei der Entwicklung eines Bibliothekskatalogs getestet

    "In einer öffentlichen Bücherei ist die Suche nach einem Werk recht einfach: Man geht einfach die Regale ab, bis man beim richtigen Buchstaben oder Thema angekommen ist. In vielen wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken ist das komplizierter. Denn dort müssen sich Studenten durch Datenbanken und Zettelkataloge wühlen. "Eine Ausnahme ist der Lesesaal, erklärt Marlene Grau, Sprecherin der Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek in Hamburg. Im Lesesaal stehen die Bücher wie in einer öffentlichen Bibliothek in Reih und Glied nach Fachgebieten wie Jura, Biologie oder Medizin sortiert. So können Studenten ein wenig schmökern und querbeet lesen. Wer jedoch ein bestimmtes Werk sucht, nutzt besser gleich den Katalog der Bibliothek. Darin lässt sich zum einen nach dem Autor oder einem Titelstichwort suchen - in der Biologie etwa "Fliege" oder "Insekt". "Dann kann man hoffen, dass Bücher zum Thema das Stichwort im Titel enthalten", sagt Grau. Die andere Variante ist, nach einem Schlagwort zu suchen. Um das passende zu finden, kann man im Schlagwort-Index blättern. Oder man sucht nach einem bekannten Buch, das zum Thema passt. Dann kann man mit dessen Schlagwörtern weitersuchen. Der Vorteil: Bücher müssen dieses Schlagwort nicht im Titel enthalten. Buchtitel wie 'Keine Angst vor Zahlen' oder 'Grundkurs Rechnen' findet man über die Schlagworte 'Mathematik' und 'Einführung', aber mit Stichworten eher nicht", erklärt Ulrich Hohoff. Er leitet die Universitätsbibliothek in Augsburg.
    Im Online-Katalog erfahren Studenten auch, ob das Buch verfügbar oder verliehen ist. Ist es gerade vergriffen, kann man es vormerken lassen, er- klärt Monika Ziller, Vorsitzen- de des Deutschen Bibliotheksverbands in Berlin. Dann werden die Studenten entsprechend benachrichtigt, wenn es zurückgegeben wurde. Außerdem könnten Studenten virtuelle Fachbibliotheken nutzen, erklärt Grau. Um das Thema Slavistik kümmert sich etwa die Staatsbibliothek in Berlin. Auf der Internetseite kann man über Suchbegriffe alle elektronischen Slavistik-Angebote wie Zeitschriften, E-Books oder Bibliografien durchforsten. Die virtuelle Fachbibliothek spuckt dann eine Titelliste aus. Bestenfalls können Studenten gleich auf einzelne Volltexte der Liste zugreifen. Oder sie müssen schauen, ob die eigene Bibliothek das gesuchte Werk hat. Vor allem Zeitschriften sind oft online im Volltext abrufbar, aber auch Enzyklopädien. "Die sind auch aktueller als der Brockhaus von 1990, der zu Hause im Regal steht" sagt Grau. Manchmal ließen sich die Texte aus Gründen des Urheberrechts aber nur auf den Rechnern auf dem Unicampus lesen, ergänzt Hohoff. Findet man ein Buch nicht, ist der Grund dafür oft ein Fehler, der sich bei der Suche eingeschlichen hat. Das fängt bei der Rechtschreibung an: "Bibliothekskataloge verfügen über keine fehlertolerante Suche wie Google", erklärt Ziller.
    "Ein häufiger Fehler ist auch, bei Google nach Büchern zu suchen", sagt Grau. Die Suchmaschine enthält keine Bibliotheksdaten. Außerdem sollten Studenten darauf achten, ob sie nach einem Zeitschriften-Artikel oder einer Monografie suchen. Benötigt man einen Aufsatz, muss man nach dem Titel der Zeitschrift und nicht nach dem Titel des Artikels suchen. Wichtig ist auch, den Suchschlüssel zu beachten. Wer nach dem Autor Johann Wolfgang von Goethe sucht, aber das Wort in der Titelsuche eingibt, bekommt andere Treffermengen. Studenten sollten die Suche auch nicht zu sehr eingrenzen. "Dann findet man nichts", warnt Grau. Andererseits darf man auch nicht zu allgemein suchen. Wer nach einem Buch zur deutschen Geschichte sucht, bekommt bei der Eingabe von "deutsche Geschichte" Tausende Treffer. "Da muss man den richtigen Suchschlüssel auswählen", erklärt Grau. Wer im Feld "Titelanfänge" etwa "deutsche Geschichte" eingibt, finde alle Titel mit diesen Wörtern in genau dieser Reihenfolge. Er lande also nicht beim Buch "Deutsche Naturlyrik: ihre Geschichte in Einzelanalysen". Das ist bei weit gefassten Begriffen sehr wichtig und hilfreich."

    Abstract
    Der Beitrag analysiert die Entstehungsgeschichte von bibliothekarischen Discovery-Systemen in Wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken, mit einem Fokus auf Bibliotheken in Deutschland. Hierfür dient der Hype-Zyklus als Rahmen, um vor allem auch auf die Erwartungen und Rezeption der Systeme in bibliothekarischen Kreisen einzugehen und diese zu diskutieren. Der Beitrag liefert außerdem einen Ausblick auf künftige Potenziale von Discovery-Systemen, auch im Kontext von forschungsnahen Dienstleistungen.

    Abstract
    Quantitativer Umfang des Bestandes Dass die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München (BSB) eine bedeutende Sammlung an Handschriften besitzt und die an Exemplaren reichste Inkunabelsammlung aufzuweisen hat, ist allgemein bekannt. Demgegenüber weit weniger bekannt dürfte die Tatsache sein, dass dort auch umfangreiche Bestände anderer Bibliotheken auf Mikrofilm bzw. Mikrofiche vorhanden sind, die in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten von Firmen wie World Microfilm Publications kommerziell vertrieben und von der BSB erworben wurden. Dabei handelt es sich - grob geschätzt - um 6.000 Handschriften (ohne Musikhandschriften) und über 5.000 Inkunabeln auf insgesamt ca. 1.850 Filmrollen und knapp 25.000 Mikrofiches. Listenartige Erfassungsmöglichkeiten Die frühesten Erwerbungen wurden in der Handschriftenabteilung im Freihandmagazin aufgestellt; ein Nachweis im Katalog war seinerzeit nicht erfolgt. Der größere - katalogisierte - Teil befand sich hingegen, räumlich getrennt, im allgemeinen Magazin; dieser wurde nach und nach in die Handbibliothek der Handschriftenabteilung (Hbh) verbracht und - zusammen mit den bereits in der Abteilung befindlichen Filmen - mit entsprechenden Signaturen versehen. Am Ende stand der katalogmäßige Nachweis der gesamten Mikroformen. Aufgrund der ursprünglich disparaten Aufstellung und unterschiedlichen Erschließung war es teilweise recht schwierig gewesen, die entsprechenden Verfilmungen (zumal Sammlungen) ausfindig zu machen. Auf der Basis einer bereits vorhandenen Liste wurde daher ein "Verzeichnis der Mikrofilmsammlungen in der Handschriftenabteilung der BSB" analog den Verzeichnissen der Mikroformen zur Geschichte bzw. zur Musikwissenschaft ins Netz gestellt. Unter der Adresse http://www.bsb-muenchen.de/mikro/hand.htm kann man sich einen nach Provenienzen geordneten Überblick über diese wichtigen, bis dato aber zu wenig genutzten Bestände verschaffen.
    Besonders interessant dürften dabei sicherlich die Verfilmungen von mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen theologischen, juristischen, literarischen und naturwissenschaftlichen Handschriften aus britischen Bibliotheken sein. Illuminierte Handschriften liegen häufig auf Farbmikrofilm vor. Sie stammen nicht nur aus der British Library, sondern auch aus zahlreichen Bibliotheken von Colleges der Universitäten Oxford und Cambridge. Außerdem gibt es eine Komplettverfilmung der orientalischen Handschriften der School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Neben den als Mikroform verfügbaren Handschriften beinhaltet die Liste auch die Fiche-Sammlung "lncunabula", in der nach thematischen Gesichtspunkten (Bibeln, italienische Drucke, Medizin, usw.) zusammengefasst Drucke bis 1500 aus Bibliotheken der ganzen Welt präsentiert werden, darunter auch aus der BSB. Des weiteren führt das Verzeichnis mikroverfilmte Findmittel auf, wobei der "Cranz" (ein Führer zu veröffentlichten und die Verfilmung unveröffentlichter Handschriftenverzeichnisse auf insgesamt 386 Filmrollen) und die Verfilmung von Inventaren der Handschriftenbestände der Bibliothèque nationale de France (ca. 2.500 Mikrofiches) besonders erwähnenswert sind.

    Abstract
    Der Artikel betrachtet anhand einer Studie zum Benutzerverhalten bei der Online-Katalogrecherche den gegenwärtigen Stellenwert und das zukünftige Potential der Web-OPACs. Dabei werden zunächst die Ergebnisse einer quantitativen Logfile-Analyse sowie qualitativer Benutzertests erörtert, bevor aktuelle Entwicklungen der Webtechnologie, die unter den Schlagworten Web 2.0 und Web 3.0 propagiert werden, im Zusammenhang mit der Online-Recherche und der Entwicklung neuartiger Suchverfahren kurz diskutiert werden.

    Die Entwicklung eines 'echten' Kinder-OPACs war eigentlich der Wunsch der Kollegen aus der Kinder- und Jugendbibliothek in München.     Abstract
    Die 40 im i.d.a.-Dachverband zusammengeschlossenen Bibliotheken, Archive und Dokumentations-stellen in Deutschland, Österreich, Luxemburg, Italien und der Schweiz verfügen über einzigartige Archivbestände zu Aktivistinnen und Organisationen aus den verschiedenen Phasen und Richtungen der Frauenbewegung des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Darüber hinaus stellen sie umfassende Literatur zu Frauenbewegungen, Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung, lesbischer und queerer Theorie und Belletristik bereit. Im Zuge des vom BMFSJ finanzierten META-Projekts wurde in drei Jahren der META-Katalog geschaffen, der den Großteil der digital verfügbaren Metadaten aus den verschiedenen Einrichtungen nachweist. Trotz der unterschiedlichen Ausgangslagen der Einrichtungen (Einrichtungstypus, Sammlungsschwerpunkt, technische Ausstattung) ist es gelungen ein Nachweisinstrument zu schaffen, dass den Nutzenden ein homogenes Nutzungserlebnis ermöglicht.

    Abstract
    Die kooperative Führung der Schlagwortnormdatei und die Gewährleistung der Qualität der in ihr enthaltenen Daten sind mit einem enormen Aufwand verbunden, der durch den Einsatz der EDV und geeignete Organisationsstrukturen nur geringfügig reduziert werden kann. Die Erstellung der SWD-Normdatensätze bleibt aufgrund der Vielzahl der den Ansetzungsformen beizufügenden Zusatzinformationen wie Codes, Notationen und Relationen relativ zeitintensiv. Diese lassen jedoch auch die SWD besonders wertvoll für die Recherche werden, da sie die Wiederauffindbarkeit der Daten unterstützen. Während die Schlagwortsuche in deutschen OPACs weit verbreitet ist, haben Codes, Notationen und Relationen bisher nur geringfügig Eingang in den OPAC gefunden. Bei einer Untersuchung von 111 Online-Katalogen wurde festgestellt, dass kein einziger OPAC all die Möglichkeiten nutzt, die mit der SWD gegeben sind. Am meisten werden noch Synonyme und - in geringerem Maße - hierarchische und assoziative Relationen zur Verbesserung des Recalls und zur Benutzerführung eingesetzt. Codes und Notationen finden nur vereinzelt Anwendung.

    Abstract
    Die kooperative Führung der Schlagwortnormdatei und die Gewährleistung der Qualität der in ihr enthaltenen Daten sind mit einem enormen Aufwand verbunden, der durch den Einsatz der EDV und geeignete Organisationsstrukturen nur geringfügig reduziert werden kann. Die Erstellung der SWD-Normdatensätze bleibt aufgrund der Vielzahl der den Ansetzungsformen beizufügenden Zusatzinformationen wie Codes, Notationen und Relationen relativ zeitintensiv. Diese lassen jedoch auch die SWD besonders wertvoll für die Recherche werden, da sie die Wiederauffindbarkeit der Daten unterstützen. Während die Schlagwortsuche in deutschen OPACs weit verbreitet ist, haben Codes, Notationen und Relationen bisher nur geringfügig Eingang in den OPAC gefunden. Bei einer Untersuchung von 111 Online-Katalogen wurde festgestellt, dass kein einziger OPAC all die Möglichkeiten nutzt, die mit der SWD gegeben sind. Am meisten werden noch Synonyme und - in geringerem Maße - hierarchische und assoziative Relationen zur Verbesserung des Recalls und zur Benutzerführung eingesetzt. Codes und Notationen finden nur vereinzelt Anwendung.

    Abstract
    Die verschiedenen unter dem Schlagwort "Bibliothek 2.0" zusammengefassten neuen Dienste und Komponenten wie etwa Wikis, Tagging-Systeme und Blogs sind seit einiger Zeit in aller Munde und dringen über Fortbildungsveranstaltungen, Konferenzen und Publikationsorgane immer mehr in das deutschsprachige Bibliothekswesen ein. Darüber hinaus gibt es öffentlich geförderte Projekte zu bibliothekarischen 2.0-Themen und sogar ein Projekt, welches sich explizit einen 2.0-Katalog zum Ziel gesetzt hat. In diesem Beitrag soll es nun nicht um die Vorstellung eines weiteren Projekts im Dienste des Themas "Bibliothek 2.0" gehen, ebenso hat dieser Beitrag nicht den Anspruch, die Diskussion über die möglichen Vor- oder Nachteile dieser Thematik auf theoretischer Ebene voranzubringen. Vielmehr wird hier ganz praktisch aus Sicht einer kleinen Universitätsbibliothek, der Bibliothek der Helmut-SchmidtUniversität (HSU) - Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg, aufgezeigt, wie das Thema "Web/Bibliothek 2.0" durchaus neben und in Unterstützung von weiteren nutzerorientierten Servicedienstleistungen auch in kleinen Schritten positive Auswirkungen für die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer haben kann. Der Focus wird dabei auf dem zentralen Arbeits- und Rechercheinstrument der Bibliotheksnutzer liegen, dem Bibliothekskatalog. Speziell wird es darum gehen, wie auf relativ einfache Art und Weise durch Anwendung verschiedener Elemente anderer Dienste und Anbieter sowie das Aufgreifen von Schnittstellen und wenig aufwendigen Verbesserungen, Mehrwert für die Nutzerinnen und Nutzer zu erzielen ist. Ein zentraler Begriff bei fast allen Überlegungen, die im Zusammenhang mit der Verbesserung und Anreicherung des Kataloges stehen, war und ist das Thema "Mash-up". Unter Mashups - ein Begriff, der gerade im Zusammenhang mit dem Thema "Web 2.0" im deutschsprachigen Raum eingeführt und adaptiert wurde - wird das Verfahren bezeichnet, Web-Inhalte neu zu kombinieren. Dabei nutzt man bei und für Mashups offene "APIs" (Application Programming Interfaces, also offene Programmierschnittstellen), die von anderen Web-Anwendungen zur Verfügung gestellt werden.

    Abstract
    Das "Statement of Principles" - allgemein bekannt als "Paris Principles" - wurde 1961 von der International Conference on Cataloguing Principles verabschiedet. Sein Ziel, als Basis für die internationale Standardisierung in der Katalogisierung zu dienen, ist sicherlich erreicht worden: Die meisten Katalogisierungsregelwerke, die in der Folgezeit weltweit entwickelt wurden, folgten den Prinzipien ganz oder wenigstens in hohem Maß. Mehr als vierzig Jahre später ist das Bedürfnis nach gemeinsamen internationalen Katalogisierungsregeln gewachsen, weil Katalogisierer und Benutzer weltweit OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogues = Online-Benutzerkataloge) nutzen. An der Schwelle des 21. Jahrhunderts hat die IFLA einen Vorstoß unternommen, neue Prinzipien zu erarbeiten, die auf Online-Bibliothekskataloge und auch darüber hinaus anwendbar sind. Das oberste Prinzip ist der Komfort des Katalognutzers. Diese Erklärung ersetzt die "Paris Principles" und weitet den Geltungsbereich von rein textlichen Werken auf alle Materialarten aus und von der Bestimmung und Form einer Eintragung auf alle Aspekte von bibliografischen Daten und Normdaten, die in Bibliothekskatalogen genutzt werden. Sie umfasst nicht nur Prinzipien und Ziele (d. h. Funktionen des Katalogs), sondern auch Regelungen, die international in Katalogisierungsregelwerken enthalten sein sollten, und gibt Anleitung für Suchfunktionen. Die Prinzipien bauen auf den großen Katalogtraditionen der Welt sowie auf dem konzeptionellen Modell der Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) der IFLA auf.

    Abstract
    Bibliothekare müssen mit ihren Mitteln effektiv und bedarfsorientiert im Sinne ihrer Nutzer umgehen. Doch woher wissen sie im Einzelfall, was »bedarfsorientiert« und »im Sinne der Nutzer« ist? Das Konzept der Anwenderpartizipation bietet Möglichkeiten, unmittelbar nutzerorientiert zu arbeiten. In Skandinavien entstanden, findet das Konzept in den USA bereits Anwendung und setzt sich nun langsam auch in Deutschland durch. Der Kunde wird als gleichberechtigter Partner bereits im Entwicklungsprozess eines Produkts (Informationstool, Handout, Inhaltserschließung) einbezogen.
