- Abstract
- Die Universitätsbibliothek Dortmund (UB) steht vor der Herausforderung, künftig Aussagen zum Publikationsverhalten ihrer Angehörigen treffen zu müssen. Dabei liegt die eine Schwierigkeit darin, Personen eindeutig Publikationen zuzuordnen. Zweitens müssen die Publikationsleistungen möglichst sowohl für einzelne Autoren als auch für alle Disziplinen umfassend nachgewiesen werden. Um beiden Herausforderungen zu begegnen, wurde ein Metadatenmanagementsystem entwickelt. Bereits bei der Konzeption dieses Systems wurde eine ORCID-Integration angestrebt, denn die UB sieht für beide genannten Herausforderungen die ORCID iD als Teil einer möglichen Lösung an. Die Ziele und die technische Umsetzung der Integration werden anhand der fünf Integrationsstufen, die ORCID bietet, vorgestellt.

- Abstract
- The implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA) in 2013 or after will have a powerful impact on the skill set required of new library and information science professionals. This article chronicles the development of an RDA "boot camp" at UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Information and Library Science. Curriculum for the three-hour camp included a review of relevant theoretical frameworks and a hands-on exercise creating RDA records. Findings from a post-boot camp survey point to areas for further growth in cataloging and metadata course development and suggest that students are eager for more practical experience with emerging schema.

- Abstract
- Vom 28. bis 30. Juli 2003 trafen sich in der Deutschen Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main auf Einladung der Sektion Katalogisierung der IFLA Regelwerksexperten aus Europa, Amerika und Australien zum »First IFLA Meeting of Experts an an International Cataloguing Code«. Die europäischen Regelwerksgremien entsandten verantwortliche Regelwerksexperten. Dieser Auftaktveranstaltung, die die Erschließung in Europa zum Schwerpunkt hatte, sollen weitere Veranstaltungen im Vorfeld der IFLA-Konferenzen 2004 in Buenos Aires und 2006 in Seoul folgen. 52 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer aus insgesamt 29 Ländern und drei Kontinenten nutzten die Gelegenheit zu einem intensiven Informations- und Meinungsaustausch auf der Frankfurter Konferenz, nachdem bereits im Vorfeld Hintergrundpapiere auf der Konferenz-Website" bereitgestellt worden waren. Diskussionsbeiträge wurden ebenfalls bereits vor dem Treffen über eine E-MailListe ausgetauscht, die nicht nur den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern, sondern auch weiteren Interessierten offen stand und besonders in den Wochen und Tagen vor der Konferenz rege genutzt wurde. Arbeitssprache der Konferenz war englisch. Das Ziel der Konferenz, die Möglichkeiten eines weltweiten Datenaustausches über gemeinsame Standards zu den Inhalten von bibliografischen Datensätzen und Normdatensätzen zu verbessern, stieß auf allgemeines Interesse. Für eine vergleichende Untersuchung zu grundlegenden Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden in den derzeit in Europa verwendeten Regelwerken erstellten die Regelwerksgremien unter Verwendung eines einheitlichen Fragenkataloges »Steckbriefe«, um Möglichkeiten einer Harmonisierung auszuloten und vielleicht sogar in naher Zukunft ein internationales Regelwerk zu entwickeln. Angesichts der Vielzahl der in Europa verwendeten Regelwerke konnten diese nicht alle im Plenum vorgestellt werden. Stattdessen gab es eine kurze Vorstellung der Regelwerksgremien in den angloamerikanischen Ländern sowie Frankreich, Deutschland und Osterreich, Spanien, Russland, Italien und Kroatien.

- Abstract
- In January 2001, the OCLC Institute released its first online learning course, Cataloging Internet Resources Using MARC21 and AACR2. This research investigated whether participants using this Web-based tool would gain experience equivalent to that of librarians who are already proficient in the skill of cataloging Internet resources. A pre-course/post-course comparison of test results of librarians not experienced with cataloging Internet resources indicated an increase of 35 percent (from 51 to 86 percent) of the correct answers after taking the Web-based course. The group experienced with cataloging Internet resources answered an average of 71 percent of the questions correctly.

- Abstract
- As librarians at Ball State University Libraries prepared to implement the authority control module of its automated system, little information about the dependability of the module or its effectiveness as compared to the active system of providing authority control was available. The head of cataloguing decided that it would be advisable to compare the effectiveness of the pre cataloguing authority control procedure in place with the post cataloguing authority control procedures that could be provided through the NOTIS reports, with the 2 systems running concurrently during the test period. The test, as expected, revealed that in most respects the post cataloguing authority control procedures provide as much or more in the way of authority control than the front end procedures, and that their uses reduce redundancy and increase efficiency

- Präzisierung des § RAK-NBM 109,3 Die Deutsche Bibliothek veröffentlicht auf ihrer Website als Ergebnis der Expertengruppe Online-Ressourcen eine Präzisierung des § RAK-NBM 109,3. <urn:nbn:de:1111-2004072117> http://nbn-resolving.de/urn/resolver.pl?urn=urn:nbn:de:1111-2004072117 Ein Hinweis von HeBIS brachte zutage, dass die mit den RAK-NBM-Präzisierungen (Stand: Februar 2000) in § RAK-NBM 109,3 von der früheren Ad-hocArbeitsgruppe zur Erschließung elektronischer Ressourcen der Konferenz für Regelwerksfragen getroffene Festlegung von den Verbünden und Der Deutschen Bibliothek so nicht für fortlaufende Sammelwerke generell angewendet wird. Die Expertengruppe Online-Ressourcen hat sich seit ihrer ersten Sitzung im Juli 2003 mit der Frage befasst, ob für den Sonderfall, dass nur einzelne Teile einer Schriftenreihe als elektronische Ressource erscheinen, eine oder zwei Einheitsaufnahmen für eine Schriftenreihe angelegt werden sollen. Die Mitglieder der Expertengruppe Online-Ressourcen haben nach ausführlicher Beratung entsprechend der mehrheitlich geübten Verbundpraxis mehrheitlich eine Ergänzung des Regelwerkstextes beschlossen. Die Grundregeln der §§ RAK-NBM 2,3 und 109 sind nicht geändert worden. Für eine Schriftenreihe, die z. B. parallel als Print- und elektronische Ressource im Fernzugriff erscheint, werden zwei Einheitsaufnahmen angelegt. Der Standardisierungsausschuss hat im September 2004 in einem Umlaufverfahren einer Veröffentlichung und Inkraftsetzung des in der Expertengruppe Online-Ressourcen erzielten Ergebnisses zu § RAK-NBM 109,3 zugestimmt. Die Ergänzung ist im Regelwerkstext fett gekennzeichnet. Die entsprechende alte Seite der RAK-NBM-Präzisierungen ist durch die neue Seite zu ersetzen."

- Abstract
- Die Uneindeutigkeit von Personennamen erschwert im Rahmen der bibliothekarischen Erschließung die eindeutige Zuordnung von Autorinnen und Autoren zu ihren Werken. Bibliotheken im deutschsprachigen Raum adressieren das Problem der Mehrdeutigkeit von Namen durch den Einsatz der Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND). Die internationale Initiative ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) verfolgt das gleiche Ziel. Akteur ist hier jedoch die einzelne Wissenschaftlerin oder der einzelne Wissenschaftler. Das Projekt "ORCID DE - Förderung der Open Researcher and Contributor ID in Deutschland" hat sich, dank der Förderung der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), unter anderem zum Ziel gesetzt, einen Brückenschlag zwischen den beiden Systemen - GND und ORCID - zu schaffen, um damit die Datenqualität beider Systeme wechselseitig zu erhöhen. Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über ORCID und das Projekt ORCID DE. Dabei wird insbesondere auf die angestrebte Verlinkung von GND und ORCID eingegangen.
