    Abstract
    Die neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien sind eine fundamentale Herausforderung für Gesellschaft, Kultur und menschliches Selbstverständnis. Sie werden erhebliche Veränderungen bewirken und damit die Umbruchphase von der Moderne in die Postmoderne zusätzlich belasten. Wissenschaft ist hier aufgefordert, den Menschen neue Orientierungen zu geben. Dazu bedarf es eines neuen Verständnisses von problem-getriebener Wissenschaft, wie es sich etwa in der Informationswissenschaft entwickelt hat. Die theoretische Basis einer solchen 'Menschenwissenschaft' erfordert ein weit über Systemtheorien hinausgehendes Verständnis vom Menschen. Dies wird hier unter Bezugnahme auf vorliegende Erkenntnisse zu Gehirn und Kognition entwickelt: der Mensch als handlungsorientierter Komplex, dessen Zielstruktur vor allem durch seine zeitliche Finalität bestimmt ist.     Abstract
    Durch die 'Datenautobahnen' ist die 'Informationsgesellschaft' in aller Munde. Das vorliegende Buch sammelt Beiträge, die seit mehr als 10 Jahren versuchen, die 'Informationsgesellschaft' von verschiedenen Aspekten aus zu betrachten. Dabei sind die neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien nur eine Komponente, die zwar einerseits zu Visionen und strategischen Hoffnungen berechtigen, andererseits auch Risiken und Unvollkommenheiten aufweisen. Die 'Informationsgesellschaft' bildet sich daher weniger als eine informationstechnische Gesellschaft heraus, sondern als eine Gesellschaft, in der Überforderungen der Menschen und Komplexitätszuwächse neue Hilfsmittel der Komplexitätsreduktion und Konzeptionen der Selbstentwicklung erfordern. Den Instanzen von Kulturbewahrung und Kulturstiftung fallen dabei neue Aufgaben der Behandlung und Bereitstellung von Wissen zu. In dieser Situation ist auch Wissenschaft neu gefordert: Es zeichnet sich eine handlungsorientierte, pragmatische neue Wissenschaftlichkeit ab, für die Informationswissenschaft ein Prototyp sein könnte. Die postmoderne Wissensverwendung wird eine Hauptaufgabe der Informationsgesellschaft werden.     Abstract
    Das Programm dieses Kolloquiums hat an Anfang und Ende zwei Exponenten der Diskussion um die Informationsgesellschaft virtuell konfrontiert, die ebenso virtuell schon einmal vor etwa 18 Jahren aufeinander trafen. Ich hatte 1987 in der Zeitschrift "Cogito" einen Aufsatz veröffentlicht, der die These von Joseph Weizenbaum, die Computerisierung des Alltags würde zu einer "Quatsch-Explosion" und nicht zu einer Informations-Explosion der Informationsgesellschaft führen, aufgegriffen. Ich stellte dem als Thesen entgegen: - Es gibt technische und psychologische Möglichkeiten, eine Informationsgesellschaft anzusteuern, die die Probleme, die Weizenbaum mit der Metapher der "Quatsch-Explosion" andeutet, vermeiden könnte. - Dies bedeutete, dass wir über die Technisierung von Kalkülen menschliche Handlungsbedingungen wie Risikobereitschaft, Verantwortungsbereitschaft und Selbstwertgefühl nicht vernachlässigen dürfen. - Weiterhin müssten wir über die Engfüh-rung des Konzepts der technisierten Information ein menschliches Konzept des Wissens entwickeln, in dem vor allem nicht-technische Gesichtspunkte, die ich mit der Metapher "Ästhetik" belegt habe, eine Rolle spielen. Was ist daraus geworden? Lassen Sie mich heute drei Antworten geben: 1. Die möglichen utopischen Gehalte einer Informationsgesellschaft sind verspielt worden. "Informationsgesellschaft" hat nicht mehr viel mit "Information" zu tun, sondern nur noch mit Infrastruktur. 2. Die technische Bedrohung, die vor 20 Jahren noch großes Kopfzerbrechen bereitet hatte, hat sich bisher nicht in den Vordergrund geschoben-künstliche Intelligenz und informatische Modellierung sind bei weitem nicht so wirkungsvoll geworden, wie man erwartet hatte, dagegen hat sich aber mit dem Internet eine neue Plattform mit ganz neuen Problemlagen entwickelt, die andere Fragen in den Vordergrund rückt und einen neuen Blick auf die "OuatschExplosion" ermöglicht. 3. Das menschliche Konzept des Wissens hat auch heute noch gute Chancen zu einem wichtigen Faktor der gesellschaftlichen Selbstbeschreibung zu werden, aber es hat den Anschein, als würde die seinerzeit von mir gewählte Metapher der "Ästhetik" mit den Tendenzen zu "Spaßgesellschaft" und "Wiederverzauberung" irgendwie missverstanden. ... Warum erzähle ich Ihnen das auf einem Colloquium über Informationswissenschaft? Weil ich nach wie vor der Auffassung bin, dass das Hauptthema meiner Informationswissenschaft nicht die Informationsbedürfnisse im Kontext von Wissenschaft und Rationalisierung sind, sondern die Bedürfnisse, die die Menschen haben, um sich in ihrer ständig komplexer und unübersichtlicher werden Welt zurechtzufinden. Dazu brauchen sie zwar auch wissenschaftliches und technisches Wissen, aber auch alle möglichen anderen Wissensformen: Erfahrungen und Wertungen anderer Menschen, Wissen über Episoden, kontextgebundenes Wissen, virtuelles Wissen, Wissen um Werte und deren Anwendungen, Wissen um Lebensmodelle.
