- Abstract
- Der Umfang und die Heterogenität des Informationsangebotes erfordert immer differenzierte Methoden und Hilfsmittel für das gezielte und möglichst ballastfreie Auffinden von Informationsquellen im Kontext eines bestimmten Fachgebietes oder einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurden in der letzten Zeit eine Reihe sog. Subject Gateways entwickelt. Bislang liegen weder viele Untersuchungen zur Qualität derartiger Hilfsmittel vor noch ist eine differenzierte Methodik für solche Bewertungen entwickelt worden. Das Projekt Evaluation von Subject Gateways des Internet (EJECT) verfolgte daher die Ziele: durch Analyse bereits realisierter Subject Gateways die Verwendungsvielfalt des Begriffes aufzuzeigen und zu einer Präzisierung der Begriffsbildung beizutragen; einen methodischen Weg zur qualitativen Bewertung von Subject Gateways aufzuzeigen; diesen Weg anhand einer Evaluation des Subject Gateways EULER zu testen, das im Rahmen eines EU-Projektes für das Fachgebiet Mathematik entwickelt wurde. Die Resultate der Evaluation werden hier in verkürzter Form vorgestellt und es wird aufgezeigt, inwieweit eine Übertragung auf die Bewertung anderer Gateways möglich ist

- Abstract
- Damit die reichen Ressourcen von Bibliotheken auch bei veränderten Mediengewohnheiten von Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern für Forschung und Lehre präsent und verfügbar sind, wurden in den vergangenen Jahren in großem Umfang fachspezifisch und mit beträchtlicher finanzieller Förderung durch die DFG sogenannte Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken aufgebaut. Als spezifisches Angebot für die Mathematik steht die vifamath zur Verfügung.

- "Quellen mathematischer Fachinformation liegen typischerweise sehr inhomogen, vielfältig und weit verzweigt vor. Bei der täglichen Recherche bedient man sich regelmäßig der verschiedensten Werkzeuge, Datenbanken und Informationsangebote. Je nach "Fahndungsziel" kommen dabei die unterschiedlichsten Informationsquellen zum Einsatz: Auf Zeitschriften greift man über die entsprechenden Lizenzen der Bibliothek vor Ort zu, nach Besprechungen recherchiert man im Zentralblatt MATH, in der Jahrbuch-Datenbank oder in MathSciNet, im Netz frei verfügbare Skripte und Aufzeichnungen ermittelt man über gängige Suchmaschinen, seine mathematische Ahnenfolge bringt man über das Mathematics Genealogy Project in Erfahrung, Bücher sucht man im lokalen Bibliothekskatalog, aktuelle Preprints im ArXiv, Fotos von Mathematikerinnen und Mathematikern in der Datenbank des MFO und deren Biographien bei MacTutor ... Der grundlegende Gedanke einer virtuellen Fachbibliothek ist es nun, diese vielfältigen Angebote für die Recherche an einer Stelle zusammenzuführen. Wo möglich, soll man von hier aus selbstverständlich auch bis zum Volltext gelangen können.
Dafür wurde in den vergangenen Jahren unter maßgeblicher Beteiligung der TIB Hannover und dem FIZ Karlsruhe/Zentralblatt MATH an der SUB Göttingen die Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Mathematik aufgebaut. Ziel war es, einen zentralen Einstieg für die Recherche nach mathematisch relevanten Informationen zu schaffen. Mit einer einzigen Suchabfrage wird simultan in allen in das Portal integrierte Quellen gesucht. Über das oben genannte Spektrum hinausgehend, kann über die vifamathSuche in den Reservoirs der meisten für die Mathematik wichtigen Digitalisierungsprojekte (neben Göttingen z. B. NUMDAM, Cornell, Michigan) sowie den Beständen der vom EMIS-Server bekannten ELibM recherchiert werden. Letzteres ist an dieser Stelle wesentlich komfortabler möglich als über die bisherigen statischen Seiten. Überdies wächst die Sammlung am Göttinger Digitalisierungszentrum im Rahmen eines laufenden DFG-Projektes zur Digitalisierung des gesamten mathematischen Göttingener Altbestandes kontinuierlich weiter. Darüberhinaus wird ein thematisch-hierarchischer Zugang zum Brow-sen entlang der Mathematics Subject Classification angeboten. Schließlich sind unter dem Dach der vifamath auch die Bestandsinformationen über das im Rahmen einer Kooperation mit der DMV an der SUB Göttingen angesiedelte Mathematiker-Archiv verfügbar. Das Portal ist unter der Adresse http://vifamath.de erreichbar, etwas vifamath-Equipment findet sich dort in der Rubrik vifamath 4U. Die Autorin ist gern bereit, das Portal bei Bedarf und Interesse vor Ort vorzustellen und in Details der Recherche einzuführen."

- Dazu ein Leserbrief von Bernd Wegner: "aufgrund meiner jahrelangen Beschäftigung mit Mathematik-Information und meiner Kenntnis des aktuellen Angebots von zbMATH sehe ich mich gezwungen, einige Dinge richtig zustellen. Der Artikel beginnt mit einem Zitat von Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Gert-Martin Greuel: "Bibliographische Informationsdienste in der Mathematik können nicht länger nur Metadaten-Repositorien sein..." In keiner Phase war dieser Mathematik-Informationsdienst, der von mir von 1974 bis 2011 geleitet wurde, "nur ein Metadaten-Repositorium". Bis in die 70er Jahre war das Zentralblatt ein gedruckter Literaturdokumentationsdienst für die Mathematik. Publiziert wurden Rezensionen von international anerkannten Experten, die natürlich durch die entsprechenden bibliographischen Daten und den Zugang zu den Rezensionen vereinfachende Registerbände ergänzt wurden. Mit der Integration in das FIZ Karlsruhe begann das Angebot vom Zentralblatt als relationale Datenbank mit allen Recherche-Möglichkeiten, die mit dem damaligen Stand der Technik möglich waren. Mit der fortschreitenden Entwicklung von Computern wurde dieses Angebot erweitert und technisch modernisiert. Es entstand ein eigenes Produktionssystem für die Mathematik-Datenbank in Kombination mit einer exzellenten Recherche-Software, verteilte Inputsysteme wurden eingerichtet und der Zugang durch internationale Spiegel der Datenbank verbessert. Der gleichzeitig stattfindende Wechsel von gedruckten zu elektronischen Publikationen führte zu einer ständig wachsenden Verlinkung der Datenbank mit elektronischen Angeboten bei Verlegern und Bibliotheken und einer Verlinkung der elektronischen Dokumente untereinander über deren Bibliographien." - Abstract
- Der Umfang und die Heterogenität des Informationsangebotes erfordert immer differenzierte Methoden und Hilfsmittel für das gezielte und möglichst ballastfreie Auffinden von Informationsquellen im Kontext eines bestimmten Fachgebietes oder einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. Um dieses Ziel zu errei-chen, wurden in der letzten Zeit eine Reihe sog. Subject Gateways entwickelt. Bislang liegen weder viele Untersuchungen zur Qualität derartiger Hilfsmittel vor noch ist eine differenzierte Methodik für solche Bewertungen entwickelt worden. Das Projekt Evaluation von Subject Gateways des Internet (EJECT) verfolgte daher die Ziele:· Durch Analyse bereits realisierter Subject Gateways die Verwendungsvielfalt des Begriffes aufzuzeigen und zu einer Präzisierung der Begriffsbildung beizutragen; Einen methodischen Weg zur qualitativen Bewertung von Subject Gateways aufzuzeigen;· Diesen Weg anhand einer Evaluation des Subject Gateways EULER zu testen, das im Rahmen eines EU-Projektes für das Fachgebiet Mathematik entwickelt wurde. Die Resultate der Evaluation werden in dieser Studie ausführlich vorgestellt und es wird aufgezeigt, inwieweit eine Übertragung auf die Bewertung anderer Gateways möglich ist.
