    Abstract
Outlines the ADONIS system: an experiment in which the contents of over 200 biomedical journals are scanned and stored on CD-ROM describes how the DOCMATCH project uses the Universal Standard Bibliographic Code to link bibliographic data bases to the ADONIS workstation, thus automating the ink from reference to full text data base. The DOCMATCH workstation at document supply centres divides orders into ADONIS material and non-ADONIS material so that the ADONIS workstation can then process the material automatically.

    Abstract
Explores some of the problems encountered in the use of the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme with special reference to the class 200 (Religion) schedules in the monastic library of the Carmelite Priory at Aylesford, Kent. Describes some of the ways in which it has been adapted to deal with them.

    Abstract
Specific provisions for cataloging technical reports are included in OCLC's Book Format. Over 200 technical report records for publications in the marine sciences, input by 60 libraries, were retrieved from the OCLC database and studied to determine the extent of use of the technical report tagging fields and indicators. It was found that these tagging fields and indicators, provided to accommodate the bibliographic characteristics of technical reports, are infrequently used. Suggestions are made to improve the quality and increase the quantity of technical report records in the OCLC database.

    Abstract
A recent study begun at Case Western Reserve University and continued at Rutgers University compared the transcripts of 200 DIALOG searches conducted by 36 experienced searchers on real questions submitted by academic and industrial researchers. Relevance judgements by the researchers were used to give recall and precision scores to each search result. Findings included: a low degree of overlap between searches on the same question in selection of search terms or items retrieved; the more often an item was retrieved by different searchers, the more likely it was to be judged relevant; recall and precision were not necessarly inversly related; there was a significant positive impact on recall/precision from using more cycles (a sequence from selecting terms to displaying results); serious uncorrectd errors were a major problem in poor searches and proper selection of terms a key to successful searches.
