- Abstract
- Ziel des Socio-Guide Projektes am Informationszentrum Sozialwissenschaften war die prototypische Entwicklung eines Fachinformationssystems für den Nachweis sozialwissenschaftlich relevanter Dokumente im World-Wide-Web. Es wurde eine datenbankbasierte Anwendung mit WWW-Interface erstellt, die dem Besucher sowohl das Browsen, als auch die gezielte Suche in den intellektuell kategorisierten Beständen erlaubt. Besonderes Augenmerk wurde auf Werkzeuge zur Aktualisierung und Wartung der Datenbestände gelegt, da die referenzierten Dokumente im Intemet sich ständig ändern können. Weiterhin wurden Workflow-Konzepte eingearbeitet, um die verteilte Bearbeitung und Verwaltung der Datenbestände durch verschiedene Mitarbeiter und externe Zuarbeiter zu ermöglichen

- Abstract
- Der Erfolg von Swiss Re als Rückversicherungsgesellschaft basiert zu einem grossen Teil auf Wissen, Expertise und Erfahrung. Deshalb hat Swiss Re in den letzten Jahren wesentliche Anstrengungen unternommen, um ihre Kompetenz in den Bereichen Wissensmanagement und Wissenstransfer zu optimieren. Die Entwicklung und Implementierung eines Intranetportals bedeutet einen wichtigen Schritt auf dem Weg zu einer lückenlosen Wissensinfrastruktur. Das Portal erhöht damit sowohl die Transparenz über vorhandenes Wissen, als auch die Geschwindigkeit beim Zugriff auf relevante Informationen. Das Intranet Portal, K.portal, ersetzt keines der existierenden Systeme, sondern ermöglicht das so genannte »One-stop-shopping«, indem es erlaubt, von einer Oberfläche aus auf verschiedene, bereits vorhandene Systeme zuzugreifen. Jede Mitarbeiterin und jeder Mitarbeiter von Swiss Re gelangt über einen Webbrowser auf die Einstiegsseite von k.portal und kann sich innert kürzester Zeit einen Ueberblick über das aktuelle Geschehen im Geschäftsbereich verschaffen. Im weiteren ermöglicht k.portal den direkten Zugriff auf Dokumente, die in verschiedenen Datenbanken und Applikationen aufbewahrt werden, bietet eine Sammlung qualitativ hochstehender Quellen an und erlaubt die persönliche Gestaltung der Benutzeroberfläche

- Dem Privatanleger stehen heute umfassende Informationsangebote im Internet zur Verfügung. Der Vortrag präsentiert die aktuelle Situation auf dem Markt der Finanzinformationssysteme und weist auf Chancen und Risiken für den Endanwender dieser öffentlich zugänglichen Informationen hin. Das Informationsangebot für Privatanleger ist heute sehr umfassend. Aktuelle und historische Kurs- und Preisinformationen, Analysen, Branchenberichte, Wirtschafts- und Finanznachrichten sowie Unternehmensporträts können von allen Nutzern oder von Kontoinhabern kostenlos abgerufen werden. Anleger, die die Informationsmedien intensiv nutzen, sind zum Teil besser informiert als die Berater in den Filialen, die keinen Zugang zu Internet oder Intranet haben. Allgemein lässt sich das Angebot an Finanzinformationen im Internet in folgende Bereiche aufteilen: Finanzportale; Online-Angebote klassischer Printmedien zum Thema Finanzen; Marktinformationen von Online-Brokern und traditionellen Banken; Börsenplätze. Fraglich ist jedoch, ob alle Privatanleger in der Lage sind, die Informationen richtig zu nutzen und zu bewerten. Gibt es weitere Quellen? Ist die Informationsquelle seriös oder verbergen sich Verkaufsinteressen hinter dem Angebot? Der Vortrag zeigt die Entwicklungstendenzen im Bereich Online-Finanzinformationen auf, stellt einige Angebot exemplarisch dar und weist auf Probleme hin, die dieses umfassende Informationsangebot für den Endanwender beinhaltet

- Abstract
- Reports a survey of all academic members of the Association of Research Libraries in the 4th quarter of 1997 which examined how academic libraries incorporate electronic information sources into their reference activities and the effects on libraries services. There was a response rate of 68 per cent, Compares results surveys carried out in 1991 and 1994. The survey covered: numbers of computers access options (intermediary, end user online, CD-ROM locally loaded databases or those accessible through the library catalogue and the Internet. There is a trend away from print resources, particularly indexing and abstracting materials, and away from CD-ROM LANs and local loading of databases towards remote online resources

- Abstract
- In 1997 a survey was held in the Netherlands by the Innovatie Wetenschappelijke Informatievoorziening (Innovation in Scientific Information Services) Steering Group to establish how much use students and research workers make of the Internet. 84% of respondents reported it useful for email communication, whilst 49% used it for consulting web documents. However, only 27% of respondents used it to consult electronic journals. A majority of respondents asked for greater assistance from library staff
