- Abstract
- Die Arbeit geht dem Status quo der unternehmensweiten Suche in österreichischen Großunternehmen nach und beleuchtet Faktoren, die darauf Einfluss haben. Aus der Analyse des Ist-Zustands wird der Bedarf an Enterprise-Search-Software abgeleitet und es werden Rahmenbedingungen für deren erfolgreiche Einführung skizziert. Die Untersuchung stützt sich auf eine im Jahr 2009 durchgeführte Onlinebefragung von 469 österreichischen Großunternehmen (Rücklauf 22 %) und daran anschließende Leitfadeninterviews mit zwölf Teilnehmern der Onlinebefragung. Der theoretische Teil verortet die Arbeit im Kontext des Informations- und Wissensmanagements. Der Fokus liegt auf dem Ansatz der Enterprise Search, ihrer Abgrenzung gegenüber der Suche im Internet und ihrem Leistungsspektrum. Im empirischen Teil wird zunächst aufgezeigt, wie die Unternehmen ihre Informationen organisieren und welche Probleme dabei auftreten. Es folgt eine Analyse des Status quo der Informati-onssuche im Unternehmen. Abschließend werden Bekanntheit und Einsatz von Enterprise-Search-Software in der Zielgruppe untersucht sowie für die Einführung dieser Software nötige Rahmenbedingungen benannt. Defizite machen die Befragten insbesondere im Hinblick auf die übergreifende Suche im Unternehmen und die Suche nach Kompetenzträgern aus. Hier werden Lücken im Wissensmanagement offenbar. 29 % der Respondenten der Onlinebefragung geben zu-dem an, dass es in ihren Unternehmen gelegentlich bis häufig zu Fehlentscheidungen infolge defizitärer Informationslagen kommt. Enterprise-Search-Software kommt in 17 % der Unternehmen, die sich an der Onlinebefragung beteiligten, zum Einsatz. Die durch Enterprise-Search-Software bewirkten Veränderungen werden grundsätzlich posi-tiv beurteilt. Alles in allem zeigen die Ergebnisse, dass Enterprise-Search-Strategien nur Erfolg haben können, wenn man sie in umfassende Maßnahmen des Informations- und Wissensmanagements einbettet.

- Abstract
- The delivery of library reference service can be practically supplemented through the appropriate incorporation and use of software tools commonly reffered to an expert system. The level of support such systems can affort the reference service organisation is dependent on the degree of complexity characteristic of the rule-based programming techniques used to develop a particular system and the size of its knowledge data base. Since most expert systems are designed to simulate the process of problem-solving practiced by an expert in a given field, an expert system designed to fully emulate library reference work must have the potential to respond to a wide subject range of questions with varying degrees of response adequacy. Describes a microcomputer-based reference expert-type system.

Die Autorin ist in der amerikanischen Internet Librarian- und Reference Librarian-Szene wohlbekannt: 1993 verfasste sie mit zwei Mitautoren Crossing the Internet Treshold, ein Tutorial für die Nutzung des Netzes, welches für die Profession eine Hilfestellung für die breite Nutzung des Internets bot. Das hier besprochene Buch könnte eine ähnliche Funktion für die Einführung der Virtual Reference bekommen: Es bietet einen Selbstlernkurs, welcher anschaulich die Grundlagen und die Grundhaltung bei der Implementation eines solchen Dienstes vermittelt. Was ist alles in diesem Kurs enthalten? Der erste Teil des Buches behandelt den Entscheidungsprozess, einen Online-Auskunftsdienst einzuführen: Es werden Vor- und Nachteile diskutiert, die Bedürfnisse der Benutzer untersucht ("There will always be a need for a human consultant to satisfy the needs of the information seeker.") und die Grundlagen der Entscheidungsfindung für eine geeignete Software behandelt. Der zweite Teil handelt dann von den Fragen der "Einrichtung" des virtuellen Auskunftsplatzes. Hier gibt es z.B. eine Schulung in den besonderen Kommunikationsformen, welche beim Chat zu beachten sind, eine Einbettung des neuen Dienstes in das Leitbild, die Geschäftsordnung bzw. Arbeitsorganisation der Bibliothek ("library policies") und zuletzt die komfortable Ausstattung des Auskunftsplatzes für Benutzer und Beschäftigte bis hin zu Fragen der Evaluation und Qualitätssicherung. Der dritte Teil behandelt die Aufgabe, einen Dienst zu implementieren, der sich selbst trägt, indem man ein Marketing für den neuen Dienst einrichtet, das ihn auf herkömmlichen und neuen Wegen promotet und ihn benutzerfreundlich ausgestaltet.
Im umfangreichen Anhang (44 S.) sind Checklisten, Übungen und Schulungsunterlagen vor allem zur richtigen Kommunikation mit den Benutzern zu finden. Am Schluss des Buches befindet sich noch ein Stichwortverzeichnis. Beigelegt ist eine CD-ROM mit allen im Buch aufgeführten Übungen und Links, so dass man auch am Bildschirm darauf zurückgreifen bzw. sie ausdrucken kann. Hervorzuheben ist, dass das Buch als Arbeitsbuch ausgestattet ist, es gibt viel Raum für Notizen, es werden viele anschauliche Beispiele gegeben und zu jedem Kapitel werden mehrere Übungsaufgaben gestellt. Es ist ein typisches amerikanisches Einführungsbuch, das in beneidenswert anschaulicher und konsequent praktisch orientierter Art die Leserin/den Leser in ein neues Arbeitsfeld einführt, so dass man nach der Lektüre wirklich den Eindruck hat, in Stand gesetzt zu sein, einen solchen Service in professioneller Art und Weise aufbauen zu können. Vielleicht sollte noch hervorgehoben werden, dass die Autorin es verstanden hat, den Inhalt so zu gestalten, dass er ein längeres Haltbarkeitsdatum bietet: Obwohl alle grundsätzlichen Dinge abgehandelt werden, wie z.B. die Entscheidungsgrundlagen für eine Software, wird doch nie eine konkrete Software behandelt. Solche Angaben würden schnell veralten im Gegensatz zu den Kriterien, die Software beurteilen zu können. Die Autorin bemüht sich auch, Internet-Quellen aufzuführen und zu besprechen, wo man sich in diesen Fragen up to date halten kann. Ein Buch, das in die Hände all jener gehört, für welche die Einführung einer Online-Auskunft in Frage kommt. Hermann Rösch führte in seinem Artikel zum Schluss lediglich einige Universitätsbibliotheken an, welche bereits eine Online-Auskunft eingeführt haben. Werden die öffentlichen Bibliotheken einen solchen Dienst nur in kooperativer Art und Weise über die Deutsche Internetbibliothek anbieten? Hoffentlich nicht, da die Einrichtung eines Virtual Reference Desk eine hervorragende Gelegenheit darstellt, das Image der Bibliothek als Informationsvermittlungsstelle nachhaltig zu stärken und jenen Benutzern einen Zugang zur Information zu ermöglichen, welche nicht in die Bibliothek kommen. Jedenfalls gibt dieses Buch die Grundlage, das Für und Wider eines solchen Dienstes abzuwägen und im Falle einer Einrichtung auch die Schulung der betroffenen Auskunftsbibliothekarinnen/-bibliothekare auf eine solide Basis zu stellen."
Rez. in BuB 56(2004) H.3: "Auskunfts- und Informationsdienst wird in den USA als unverzichtbare und wohl wichtigste bibliothekarische Tätigkeit betrachtet. Daher verwundert nicht, dass die Popularisierung des Internet Bibliothekare und Bibliotheken frühzeitig dazu veranlasst hat, ihre Auskunftsdienstleistungen im Web anzubieten. Dies geschah zunächst durch organisierte Auskunft per E-Mail, später per Webformular und vor allem seit 2000/2001 verstärkt per Chat. Als zusammenfassende Bezeichnung für diese Varianten wird meist der Begriff digital reference verwendet. In den USA, aber auch in Australien, Großbritannien oder Skandinavien schenkt man dem Thema Digital Reference schon seit mehreren Jahren größte Aufmerksamkeit. Die Zahl der bislang dazu publizierten Fachaufsätze lag Ende 2003 bereits weit über 600, jährlich im November findet seit 1999 die »Digital Reference Conference« statt, und mit DIG_REF sowie LiveReference existieren zwei Diskussionslisten, die sich ausschließlich mit Fragen bibliothekarischer Auskunft im Internet beschäftigen. Im vergangenen Jahr sind in den USA allein vier umfangreiche Monographien zu Digital Reference erschienen, darunter das hier zu besprechende Werk von Anne Lipow. ... Gegenwärtig deutet sich an, dass das Thema Digital Reference, Online-Auskunft oder Auskunft per Chat in deutschen Bibliotheken auf mehr Interesse stößt als in den vergangenen Jahren. Nachdem bislang vorwiegend (einige wenige) wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken ChatAuskunft anbieten, haben mehrere Öffentliche Bibliotheken, darunter die ZLB Berlin und die Stadtbücherei Frankfurt am Main, angekündigt, zukünftig auchAuskunftperChatanbieten zu wollen. Eine wichtige Rolle spielt in diesem Zusammenhang der weltweite Auskunftsverbund QuestionPoint, der von OCLC gemeinsam mit der Library of Congress betrieben wird. - Abstract
- Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die Ergebnisse einer Analyse zusammengefasst, in der untersucht wurde, ob, und wenn ja welche Services für das Management von publikationsbezogenen Forschungsdaten gegenwärtig bei wissenschaftlichen Infrastrukturdienstleistern in den Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften bestehen. Die Analyse wurde Mithilfe von Desktop-Research sowie einer Online-Befragung, an der sich 22 von 46 angeschriebenen Institutionen beteiligten, durchgeführt. Untersucht wurden vor allem deutsche und europäische Forschungsdatenzentren, Bibliotheken und Archive. Insbesondere wurde untersucht, ob diese Organisationen extern erzeugte Forschungsdaten, den dazugehörigen Berechnungscode (Syntax) und ggf. genutzte (selbstgeschriebene) Software grundsätzlich speichern und hosten. Weitere Themenfelder waren Metadatenstandards, Persistente Identifikatoren, Verfügbarkeit von Schnittstellen (APIs) und Unterstützung von semantischen Technologien.

- Abstract
- Mit dem Aufkommen diverser kollaborativer Dienste (Social Software) im Internet verändert sich die Web-Landschaft derzeit deutlich. Neue Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten müssen erworben werden, um das volle Potential neuer Web 2.0-Angebote ausschöpfen zu können. Gleichzeitig steigt durch die vom Nutzer geschaffenen Inhalte die ohnehin vorhandene Informationsflut weiter an. Kompetenzen im Umgang mit digitalen Informationsangeboten müssen mehr denn je gefördert werden. Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit den Chancen und Herausforderungen, die sich für die Nutzer von Social Software bei der Informationssuche und -aufbereitung ergeben. Zudem wurde im Rahmen einer Onlinebefragung von mehr als 1000 Studierenden eine Bestandsaufnahme vorgenommen: Welche Web 2.0-Dienste sind bereits bekannt? Wie werden diese genutzt? Und stehen sie bei der Informationsbeschaffung in Konkurrenz zu Web-Suchmaschinen und klassischer Bibliotheksrecherche?

- Abstract
- Im Frühjahr 2004 eröffnete die bereits 2002 als ad-hoc-Arbeitsgruppe der AG UB und AG FHB im vbnw ins Leben gerufene AG Informationskompetenz mit ihrem Netzwerk von Multiplikatoren in den einzelnen Bibliotheken vor Ort den Diskurs über mögliche Kooperationen mit einem Workshop zur Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz als Schlüsselqualifikation in den Bachelor-Studiengängen. Interesse und Resonanz waren groß, und in der Folgezeit bildeten sich in NRW eine Fülle unterschiedlicher Verfahrensweisen und Modelle bei der Umsetzung der Schlüsselqualifikation IK in Lehrveranstaltungen heraus. Die AG Informationskompetenz unterstützte diesen Prozess nicht durch die Vorgabe verbindlicher Richtlinien für alle Bibliotheken, sondern durch gemeinschaftliches Erarbeiten der wichtigsten Bausteine und Elemente, mit deren Hilfe jede Bibliothek den für sie und die von ihr betreute Hochschule geeignetsten Weg zur Integration von Informationskompetenz in die Lehre finden sollte. Aus der Praxis für die Praxis wurde zum Leitmotiv der Entwicklungen und Projekte der AG. 2008 scheint es nun an der Zeit, das bisher Geleistete kritisch zu hinterfragen und im Interesse der Nachnutzung nicht nur Erfolge darzustellen, sondern auch die oft verschlungenen Pfade oder sogar Irrwege dorthin. Wie sind strategische Konzepte praktisch umgesetzt worden? Sind die Bibliotheken mittlerweile dort angekommen, wo sie hinwollten, nämlich als Partner in der Lehre ihrer Hochschulen anerkannt? Ist die von allen angestrebte Integration in die Curricula Segen oder Fluch? Wie sieht es bei der Kosten-Nutzen-Relation beim Personalaufwand für die Schulungsangebote aus? Ist die Integration in bestehende Lehrveranstaltungen frei organisierten Angeboten der Bibliotheken vorzuziehen? Welche Zielgruppen werden bedient, welche bewußt außen vor gelassen? Welche Inhalte und Methoden sind etabliert, welche haben sich nicht bewährt? Ist ELearning eine Lösung für die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz bei großen Gruppen? Welche Defizite erkennen die Bibliotheken selbst und wie sind die mittelfristigen Planungen im Lande? Und vor allem: ist die Informationskompetenz der Studierenden besser geworden? Dieser Fragenkomplex wird an Hand von Beispielen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen kritisch beleuchtet in der Hoffnung, anderen Bibliotheken dadurch den Weg in die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz leichter zu machen.

- Abstract
- Wer in der gegenwärtigen Situation des allgemeinen »Information Overload« für neue Internetdienste wirbt, wird mit größter Skepsis zu rechnen haben. Nicht noch mehr! Viele der Dienste, von denen im Folgenden die Rede sein wird, sind gegenwärtig selbst kommunalen EDV-Spezialisten unbekannt. Es spricht aber einiges dafür, dass zurzeit eine »heimliche Medienrevolution« (Erik Möller) im Internet stattfindet. Neue Formate und Plattformen setzen sich durch, die in erster Linie auf der Zusammenarbeit vieler Menschen beruhen. - Abstract
- Kalliope ist der deutsche Verbund zur Katalogisierung von Nachlässen und Autographen. Grundlage der seit Ende des Jahres 2001 im Internet frei zugänglichen Datenbank ist die Zentralkartei der Autographen (ZKA). Die ZKA hält in Form eines Zettelkataloges über 1,2 Millionen Handschriften und Nachlässe, ihre Standorte und beschreibende Informationen für den Benutzer bereit. Der Aufbau dieses Zettelkataloges begann 1966 und wurde mit der Unterstützung der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) und der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (SBB) bis Mitte der 90er Jahre in Zettelform betrieben. Die Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin ist auch der Standort der Zettelkataloge und der Datenbank. Das Besondere an der ZKA ist, dass die Nachweise materialbezogen sind und somit von Anfang an einen Großteil der deutschen Bibliotheken, viele Archive und Museen sowie Autographenbeschreibungen berücksichtigen. Hinzu kommen Nachweise zu Nachlässen aus deutschen Auktionskatalogen vor 1950.
