- Abstract
- Diskussionen um Datennetze und Informationstechnik drehen sich häufig um kompetentes Handeln. In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. Informationelle Kompetenz ist gelebte Informationelle Autonomie. Es lassen sich Konsequenzen für ein zukünftiges Menschenbild in informationstechnischen Umgebungen ziehen.

- Abstract
- Die Situation der mathematischen Literatur ist geprägt durch Preissteigerungen, die nun - wie vorher schon andere naturwissenschaftliche Fächer - auch die Mathematik erreicht haben. Diese Situation macht es vielen Bibliotheken immer schwerer, die Zahl der Zeitschriftenabonnements aufrecht zu erhalten und eine ausreichende Anzahl relevanter Monographien zu kaufen. Die Situation ist aber auch geprägt durch eine Zunahme der Vielfalt in der Erscheinungsform mathematischer Literatur und der Nachweisinstrumente. Dies bringt manche Änderung mit sich; manchmal mehr Komfort, hin und wieder auch heue Probleme. In diesem Beitrag soll die vor einiger Zeit an anderer Stelle begonnene Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation auf dem Gebiet der Mathematik fortgesetzt und ein Überblick bis zum Jahre 1985 gegeben werden. Leider hat sich an dem schon damals beklagten Zustand der mangelnden Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation in den Naturwissenschaften bis heute nichts geändert. So gibt es zwar die vorzügliche Rubrik von Klaus Schreiber in der Zeitschrift für Bibliothekswesen und Bibliographie, die Naturwissenschaften sind dort aber nicht überrepräsentiert, und auch an anderer Stelle ist kein Ersatz in Sicht; ein angesichts rascher Änderungen auf manchem Gebiet bedauerlicher Zustand. Neben den Neuerungen bei den bekannten Referateorganen sollen die seit einiger Zeit nunmehr auch für die Mathematik online zu recherchierenden Datenbanken erwähnt werden. Berücksichtigen wollen wir diesmal auch die Didaktik der Mathematik und die Statistik. Nicht berücksichtigt werden soll hingegen die Informatik; dieses in den letzten Jahren stark expandierende Gebiet mit einer Reihe von Besonderheiten in der fachlich relevanten Literatur (Produkt-Literatur, Firmenschriften, Software-Bibliotheken u.a.) verdient eine eigene Darstellung. Darüberhinaus wollen wir versuchen, einige weitere nützliche Hinweise für den Umgang mit mathematischer Literatur zu geben.

- Abstract
- Es wird ein Überblick gegeben, wie sich die Veränderungen sich im Bereich der Informationsverarbeitung und -technik auf die Gestaltung von Studienkonzepten im Bereich Wissensorganisation und Information Retrieval in deutschen bibliothekarischen Ausbildungseinrichtungen ausgewirkt haben. Dabei wird unterschieden in Bereiche der Veränderungen und in Bereiche der Stabilität. Die Bereiche der Veränderungen lassen sich den Verfahren und Anwendungen in der Praxis zuordnen. Sie sind zum einen geprägt durch eine integrative Sicht auf Indexierung und Information Retrieval und lassen sich zum anderen durch folgende Trends charakterisieren: - Von Katalogen zu OPACs und WebOPACs - Von der Katalogisierung zum intelligenten Information Retrieval und Suchmaschinen mit benutzerfreundlichen Interaktionsschnittstellen - Vom lokalen Katalog zum kooperativen Erschließen und Retrieval in heterogenen Netzen - Von intellektueller zu automatischer Indexierung - Von Regelwerken zu strukturierten Beschreibungsebenen (z.B. Metadaten) - Von Beschreibung und Bewertung zu Entwicklungen und Produktdesign Die Bereiche der Stabilität lassen sich der Theorie und den Methoden zuordnen und sind durch folgende Themen beschreibbar: - Grundlagen der Wissensorganisation und Informationserschließung (z.B. in Philosophie, Linguistik, Informatik, Kognitionspsychologie) - Grundlagen der Gestaltung von Dokumentationssprachen - Grundlagen des Information Retrieval

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag nimmt aktuelle Entwicklungen im Teilbereich Formalerschließung in Deutschland zum Anlass, eine kritische Reflexion über den Zustand und die Weiterentwicklung des Themenfeldes Erschließung insgesamt anzustellen. Es werden einige historische Beispiele gegeben, die die Ausstrahlung bibliothekarischer Ideen und Problemlösungen auf das allgemeine Leben zeigen. Diese Ausstrahlung wird dem Eindruck entgegen gesetzt, dass sich gegenwärtig der bibliothekarische Berufsstand insbesondere im Bereich informationstechnischer Anwendungen die zu beachtenden fachlichen Standards lieber von anderen vorgeben lässt, als sich selbst um deren Weiterentwicklung zu bemühen.

- Abstract
- Die Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft ist in aller Munde, das Verständnis derselben ist gleichwohl unklar. Unscharf ist auch das Verständnis der zugrunde liegenden Begriffe Information und Wissen sowie des Erwerbs von Information aus den verschiedenen medialen Repräsentationsformen. Allenfalls lässt sich eine gewisse Einseitigkeit bemerken, die durch den informationstechnischen Primat und an der Nachrichtentechnik orientierten Übertragungsformen geprägt ist. Ausgangspunkt der Erörterung ist die Beobachtung, dass Menschen Informationsbedürfnisse besitzen, die sie durch Inanspruchnahme verschiedenster externer Quellen und Hilfsmittel befriedigen wollen. Die neuartigen Speicher- und Findeformen führen zu übersteigerten Erwartungen, wenn man an all die Formulierungen mit virtuell, cyber, Hyper, Multimedia, Information Superhighway etc. denkt. Häufig wird dabei suggeriert, die veränderte mediale Präsentation habe neuartige und bessere Qualitäten für die Rezeption von Information, ohne dass die dabei beteiligten Prozesse völlig verstanden sind. Innerhalb eines konstruktivistischen Modells der kognitiven Informationsverarbeitung und der Rezeption medial gespeicherter Information werden Fragen der Darstellung und Rezeption von Information untersucht.

- Abstract
- Das CrissCross-Projekt verfolgt die Zielsetzung, ein erweitertes multilinguales und thesaurusbasiertes Registervokabular zur Dewey-Dezimalklassifikation (DDC Deutsch) zu erstellen, das als Recherchevokabulars zu heterogen erschlossenen Dokumenten verwendet werden kann und soll damit die Ausgangsbedingungen für die Gestaltung von OPAC-Retrievalumgebungen verbessern helfen. Im einzelnen soll jedes Sachschlagwort der Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) eine DDC-Notation erhalten und es sollen die im Projekt MACS begonnen Arbeiten fortgesetzt werden, Links zwischen den Schlagwörtern der SWD, den Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) und dem Répertoire d'autorité-matière encyclopédique et alphabétique unifé (Rameau) herzustellen. In diesem Beitrag wird der Vorschlag gemacht, die Zielsetzung des Projektes darin zu sehen, eine Kern-Ontologie mit universalen Relationen als Klassifikation zu benutzen und die beteiligten Normdateien als zugeordnete semantische Netze zu entwickeln, indem nicht-generische Relationen die Aufgabe der durch die Lokalisierung gestellten Anforderungen übernehmen. Generische Relationen im bekannten Thesaurussinn sind für derartige semantische Netze nicht mehr erforderlich, da sie sich aus den generischen Beziehungen der Kern-Ontologie vererben.

- Abstract
- In dieser Expertise werden ausgehend von Rahmenbedingungen, die sich aus dem Verständnis von Wissen, Information und Lernen sowie der Diskussion um die Entwicklung unserer Gesellschaft zu einer Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft ergeben, die Eigenschaften von Wissens-Schnittstellen zwischen Institution und Benutzer aufgezeigt. Es werden Möglichkeiten zur Gestaltung diskutiert, die die Retrievalwerkzeuge, Verfahren zur semantischen Navigation und Probleme verteilter Datenbanken betreffen. Anhand der inhaltlichen Komponenten, aus denen eine Schnittstelle aufgebaut sein kann, werden Möglichkeiten zur eigenen Positionierung aufgezeigt. Probleme der technischen Realisierung werden kurz gestreift. Abschließend werden einige Beispiele vorgestellt. Abgerundet wird die Darstellung durch ein Literaturverzeichnis

- Abstract
- Der Umfang und die Heterogenität des Informationsangebotes erfordert immer differenzierte Methoden und Hilfsmittel für das gezielte und möglichst ballastfreie Auffinden von Informationsquellen im Kontext eines bestimmten Fachgebietes oder einer wissenschaftlichen Disziplin. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurden in der letzten Zeit eine Reihe sog. Subject Gateways entwickelt. Bislang liegen weder viele Untersuchungen zur Qualität derartiger Hilfsmittel vor noch ist eine differenzierte Methodik für solche Bewertungen entwickelt worden. Das Projekt Evaluation von Subject Gateways des Internet (EJECT) verfolgte daher die Ziele: durch Analyse bereits realisierter Subject Gateways die Verwendungsvielfalt des Begriffes aufzuzeigen und zu einer Präzisierung der Begriffsbildung beizutragen; einen methodischen Weg zur qualitativen Bewertung von Subject Gateways aufzuzeigen; diesen Weg anhand einer Evaluation des Subject Gateways EULER zu testen, das im Rahmen eines EU-Projektes für das Fachgebiet Mathematik entwickelt wurde. Die Resultate der Evaluation werden hier in verkürzter Form vorgestellt und es wird aufgezeigt, inwieweit eine Übertragung auf die Bewertung anderer Gateways möglich ist

- Abstract
- Die Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) ist mit einem Umfang von ca. 150.000 Sachschlagwörtern das umfangreichste terminologisch kontrollierte deutschsprachige Vokabular, das zur verbalen Inhaltserschließung von Dokumenten genutzt werden und somit prinzipiell auch als Kandidat für den Aufbau semantischer Navigationsstrukturen im Online-Retrieval angesehen werden kann. Die Strukturierung der Schlagwörter in der SWD folgt den Vorgaben zur Ausweisung begrifflicher Strukturen in einem Thesaurus. Durch Veränderungen des der Erstellung der SWD zu Grunde liegenden Regelwerkes RSWK hat sich im Verlauf der Zeit ein Nebeneinander von unterschiedlich dichten Beziehungsnetzen ergeben, ohne dass hierzu bislang Details erhoben und dokumentiert wären. In dieser Studie werden Aussagen über den Aufwand gemacht, der erforderlich wäre, die semantische Relationenstruktur der Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) zu homogenisieren. Hierzu wird eine quantitative und qualitative Analyse am Beispiel mehrerer Themengebiete vorgenommen. Die Berücksichtigung mehrerer Gebiete soll es gestatten, möglichst repräsentative Aussagen für das gesamte Vokabular abzuleiten. Die Autorinnen und Autoren der Studien sind sich angesichts der zur Verfügung stehenden begrenzten Ressourcen bewusst, dass dieser Anspruch nur mit Einschränkungen eingelöst werden kann. Die für die Analyse der Relationenstruktur benutzten Kriterien orientieren sich an Grundsätzen zur Gestaltung strukturierten Vokabulars sowie insbesondere der Eignung der SWD, zum Aufbau bestandsunabhängiger semantischer Navigationssysteme im Online-Retrieval, für Zwecke des wörterbuchgestützten automatischen Indexierens.
Mit diesem Kriterium lässt es sich nicht vermeiden, dass Relationen als fehlend charakterisiert werden, auch wenn sie vom Regelwerk nicht gefordert werden. Die Analysen berücksichtigen allerdings die Verzahnung der SWD zum Regelwerk RSWK insoweit, als in der Regel nur bereits vorhandene Schlagwörter betrachtet wurden und nicht auch Lücken analysiert wurden, die allein deswegen vorhandenen sind, weil Schlagwörter wegen nicht vorhandener Bücher (noch) nicht gebildet wurden. Die Funktion der SWD zur terminologischen Ansetzung von Schlagwörtern ist nicht Gegenstand der Studie. Der Bericht dokumentiert zusätzlich Inkonsistenzen, die während der Analysen ermittelt wurden. Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, die tatsächlich erreichte Situation der Relationenstruktur der SWD zu ermitteln sowie Vorschläge auszuarbeiten, an welchen Stellen eine Nachbearbeitung der Relationen erfolgen sollte und wie dies realisiert werden könnte. Bei dieser Analyse wird nicht differenziert zwischen Relationierungen, die vom Regelwerk RSWK gedeckt sind und Relationierungen, die allgemeinen Regeln zur Darstellung begrifflicher Strukturen entsprechen.

- Abstract
- Es ist nicht neu, Institutionen als Mittler zwischen Wissen und Nutzer zu betrachten. Bibliotheken und andere Einrichtungen des Bildungssystems wurde schon immer diese Rolle zugeschrieben. Neu ist es allerdings, die Schnittstelle selbst als ein Bildungsobjekt zu betrachten, das nicht allein vermittelnd zwischen Wissen und Nutzer steht, sondern dessen Eigenschaften selbst wissensrelevant sind. Des weiteren kann diese Schnittstelle nicht mehr individuell für jede Institution gesehen werden, sondern sie besteht aus mehreren Stufen. Deren erste - das World Wide Web - ist eine mediale Ebene mit eigenen Eigenschaften, erst darunter kommt die institutionenbezogene Schnittstelle. Mit dem WWW ist ein Zwischenmedium entstanden ist, das Zugriff auf eine Vielzahl von Anbietern gestattet, die miteinander konkurrieren, die sich mit ihren Leistungsmöglichkeiten werbend präsentieren müssen, die auch probehalber oder mehr oder weniger zufällig aufgesucht werden. In jedem Fall muss sich nun jede Institution, die Präsenz unter dieser Schnittstelle zeigen will, mit den Spielregeln, den Möglich-keiten und Problemen dieser medialen Schnittstelle auseinander setzen. In dieser neuen Situation weichen ehemals scharfe Grenzen zwischen Anbietern auf, entweder weil die Anbieter selbst es so wollen oder weil über die Nutzer explizit oder gemäß einer impliziten Erwartung so agiert wird. Dabei gilt es zu fragen, ob und ggf. wie die Schnittstelle die bisherige Auffassung von der eigenen Rolle im Prozess der Wissensvermittlung verändert, welche Aufgaben fortgeführt werden können, welche verändert, welche mit Partnern verfolgt, welche vielleicht auch aufgegeben werden sollten. Es ist die Frage zu beachten, welches Verhältnis die anbietende Institution zur Schnittstelle haben soll. Soll die Schnittstelle eine Zugangsfunktion für die Institution mit ihren Angeboten bieten? Werden über die Schnittstelle Inhalte der Institution bereitgestellt oder ist sie nur ein Portal als Zugang für Angebote anderer? Ist die Schnittstelle der Selbstbestimmung der Insti-tution nachgeordnet oder soll sie die Identifikationsfunktion für die Institution übernehmen? Vorstehende Fragen spielen für Bibliotheken eine Rolle, da man sie als Anbieter von Materialien ansieht, die als Träger von Information zum Zwecke der Wissensaneignung dienen. Darüber hinaus treten Bibliotheken des öfteren auch in der Rolle von Mediatoren im Prozess der Wissensaneignung auf. Damit stellt sich die Frage nach der Rolle der Bibliotheken für Konzepte des Lebenslangen Lernens und der selbstbestimmten Aneignung von Wissen. Besonders mit dem Konzept der Virtuellen oder Digitalen Bibliothek sind vielfältige Erwartungen geweckt worden, welche Rolle Bibliotheken im Rahmen der Informations- oder Wissensgesellschaft spielen können.

- Abstract
- In der Theorie des Schlagwortkatalogs wurden bisher keine Untersuchungen über die spezifischen Eigenheiten eines Faches, seiner Terminologie und die Informationsbedürfnisse seiner Benutzer durchgeführt In dieser Arbeit wird der Versuch einer solchen Untersuchung für das Fach Mathematik unternommen. Neben einer genauen Analyse der Fachterminologie steht die Verknüpfung der verbalen Indexierung mit einer vorhandenen Fachklassifikation - dem Klassifikationsschema der American Mathematical Society - unter Ausnutzung von Fremddaten im Mittelpunkt dieser Untersuchung. Auf diesem Wege können sowohl Qualität als auch Konsistenz der Verschlagwortung gesteigert werden. Es werden praktische Anwendungsmög/ichkeiten abgeleitet.
