- Abstract
- Eine der wesentlichen Aufgaben als Fachreferent*in ist die inhaltliche Erschließung der neuerworbenen Literatur, sowie die Begutachtung und Auswahl der neu erschienenen Werke in den jeweiligen Fachgebieten hinsichtlich der Relevanz für die eigenen Sammlungen gemäß dem Sammlungsprofil der TU Wien Bibliothek. Im Zuge der Corona-Krise wurde die herkömmliche Arbeitsweise in der Sacherschließung beeinträchtigt, und es haben sich neue Herausforderungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten ergeben. Neben der fehlenden Autopsie der Literatur leidet auch die Sichtung und Erwerbung neuer Literatur unter der physischen Abwesenheit vom Arbeitsplatz bzw. der entsprechenden technischen Infrastruktur. Auch der persönliche Austausch mit den Kolleg*innen wurde deutlich erschwert. Neben den Schwierigkeiten wurden aber auch die neuen Handlungsoptionen auf beruflicher und individueller Ebene positiv gesehen. In dem Artikel werden unsere individuellen Erfahrungen an der TU Wien Bibliothek sowie Ausblicke in die Zukunft wiedergegeben.

- Abstract
- Werden Maschinen mit Begriffen beschrieben, die ursprünglich der Beschreibung des Menschen dienen, so liegt zunächst der Verdacht nahe, dass jene Maschinen spezifischmenschliche Fähigkeiten oder Eigenschaften besitzen. Für körperliche Fähigkeiten, die mechanisch nachgeahmt werden, hat sich in der Alltagssprache eine anthropomorphisierende Sprechweise bereits etabliert. So wird kaum in Frage gestellt, dass bestimmte Maschinen weben, backen, sich bewegen oder arbeiten können. Bei nichtkörperlichen Eigenschaften, etwa kognitiver, sozialer oder moralischer Art sieht dies jedoch anders aus. Dass mittlerweile intelligente und rechnende Maschinen im alltäglichen Sprachgebrauch Eingang gefunden haben, wäre jedoch undenkbar ohne den langjährigen Diskurs über Künstliche Intelligenz, welcher insbesondere die zweite Hälfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts geprägt hat. In jüngster Zeit ist es der Autonomiebegriff, welcher zunehmend Verwendung zur Beschreibung neuer Technologien findet, wie etwa "autonome mobile Roboter" oder "autonome Systeme". Dem Begriff nach rekurriert die "Autonomie" jener Technologien auf eine bestimmte Art technologischen Fortschritts, die von der Fähigkeit zur Selbstgesetzgebung herrührt. Dies wirft aus philosophischer Sicht jedoch die Frage auf, wie die Selbstgesetzgebung in diesem Fall definiert ist, zumal sich der Autonomiebegriff in der Philosophie auf die politische oder moralische Selbstgesetzgebung von Menschen oder Menschengruppen beziehungsweise ihre Handlungen bezieht. Im Handbuch Robotik hingegen führt der Autor geradezu beiläufig die Bezeichnung "autonom" ein, indem er prognostiziert, dass "[.] autonome Roboter in Zukunft sogar einen Großteil der Altenbetreuung übernehmen werden."

In der Publikation werden Voraussetzungen eines autonomen informationellen Handelns gezeigt: Abstrahieren, Analogien bilden, Plausibilitäten beachten, Schlussfolgern und kreativ sein. - Im Frühjahr 2000 begann Susan Blackmore, Material für ein Radiofeature zum Thema Bewußtsein zu sammeln. Die Sendung kam nie zustande, aber die Idee, sich einem der großen Rätsel der menschlichen Existenz in Gesprächen zu nähern, ließ sie nicht mehr los. So entstanden zwanzig Interviews mit Philosophen und Naturwissenschaftlern, der Crème de la Crème der internationalen Bewußtseinsforschung, die hier Rede und Antwort steht. David Chalmers zum Beispiel, der erklärt, warum das Bewußtsein ein solch schwieriges Problem ist, oder Susan Greenfield, der zufolge man schon bei Sophokles und Euripides Interessantes über Willensfreiheit lernen kann. Francisco Varela spricht über Zombies, Roger Penrose über John Searle, John Searle über Immanuel Kant. Wir erfahren von Vilayanur Ramachandran, warum er nicht meditiert, und von Thomas Metzinger, inwiefern das bewußte Selbst eine Illusion ist. Und im letzten Interview vor seinem Tod rekapituliert Francis Crick seinen Weg von der Genetik zur Bewußtseinsforschung. Es geht um den Geist und um die Gene, um das Gehirn und die Gefühle, aber auch um Quantenprozesse und Träume, Descartes und Shiva, Kabbala und Drogenpolitik - und nicht zuletzt um Forscherkarrieren und Lebensträume.

- Abstract
- Aktuelle Entwicklungen der Natur- und Technikwissenschaften werfen ein überraschend neues Licht auf klassische Brennpunkte der Naturphilosophie. Ein Anderes der Natur zeigt sich: Natur ist Natur, insofern sie zur Instabilität fähig ist. Instabilitäten gelten als Quelle des Werdens und Wachsens, ja als Hintergrund des Lebens. Angesichts dieser Erkenntnisse eröffnen sich neue Wege naturphilosophischen Denkens. - Abstract
- Haben sich Geisteswissenschaftler zu lange im postmodernen Dogmatismus ausgeruht und nichts wirklich Neues auf die Beine gestellt? Haben sie mit unscharfen "Buh-Wörtern" wie "Szientismus" und "Reduktionismus" Strohmänner aufgebaut, die es in der Wirklichkeit gar nicht gibt, die sich dafür aber umso besser angreifen und zerlegen lassen? Haben sie die auf neuen Möglichkeiten, die die Neurowissenschaften, die Verhaltensgenetik oder die digitale Technik boten, lediglich mit behäbiger Abscheu und mit Tabus reagiert und sich in ihren abgehobenen Elfenbeinturm zurückgezogen? Um das herauszufinden, hat Reinhard Jellen mit zehn Philosophen gesprochen: Der Wissenschaftsphilosoph Klaus Mainzer klärt ihn darüber auf, wie er mit Big Data und der Algorithmisierung der Welt umgeht. Thomas Metzinger zeigt, wie man in seinem Fach an den Schnittstellen zur Hirnforschung operiert. Klaus Kornwachs, der Physiker und Philosoph ist, legt dar, warum er glaubt, dass die Philosophie Probleme nicht direkt lösen, aber das Bewusstsein dafür schärfen kann. Und der Moralforscher Rainer Hegselmann glaubt, dass die Computersimulation "schon bald zum Methoden-Kanon einer Philosophie gehört, die auf der Höhe der Zeit sein will". Der Marxist Reinhard Meiners schwärmt dagegen nicht etwa von der Entwicklung der Produktivkräfte, sondern bemängelt eine "Fortschritts- und Wachstumsideologie". Eher skeptisch zeigt sich auch die Foucault-Expertin Petra Gehring, die der Philosophie nur eine begrenzte Vermittlungsfunktion zur Naturwissenschaft zubilligt. Der Literatur- und Medienwissenschaftler Joseph Vogl betrachtet Philosophie und Naturwissenschaft sogar als "zwei getrennte Kontinente". Der Derrida-Fachmann Hans-Jörg Rheinberger hat die Trennung als historisches Faktum akzeptiert. Für mehr Verwissenschaftlichung spricht sich hingegen der Münsteraner Tractatus-Preisträger Kurt Bayertz aus, der zugibt, dass sich die Philosophie zu "Weltfremdheiten" verleiten ließ.

- Abstract
- In der Bildungspolitik wird primär oder fast ausschließlich die "Hardware" diskutiert: Ganztagsschulen, Gemeinschaftsschule, Durchlässigkeit des Schulsystems. Doch immer mehr Lehrer und Hochschuldozenten in Baden-Württemberg beklagen auch Defizite in der "Software" - Schülern und Studenten mangele es häufig an der Fähigkeit zum strukturierten Denken und Arbeiten. Die Kontext:Wochenzeitung will dazu ein neues Projekt zur Diskussion stellen.

- "Die Frage klingt, zugegeben, ziemlich merkwürdig, fast schon bescheuert. "Gibt es einen Vogel, oder haben wir den nur im Kopf?" Die Gesichter der Stuttgarter Oberstufen-Gymnasiasten sind ein einziges Fragezeichen. Was soll das denn, wie meint der da vorne das nur? Nach etwa fünf Schweigeminuten und denkbar irritierten Blicken an die Decke des Klassenzimmers oder wahlweise aus dem Fenster streckt sich doch ein erster Finger gewagt in die Höhe. "Geht es darum, einen Vogel zu haben, einen im Kopf, also ein bisschen blöde zu sein?" Als der da vorne schmunzelnd den Kopf schüttelt, schauen die Schüler noch ratloser und versinken erneut in dumpfes Brüten. Zum Glück fliegt in diesem Moment draußen ein Spatz vorbei. Diesen kleinen Lernhelfer hat der Himmel geschickt. Sonst hätte der da vorne ihn spätestens jetzt aus dem didaktischen Hut zaubern müssen. Was ist der Vogel? Und was der Spatz, die Meise, der Rotkopfwürger, der Adler oder der Geier? Ah, ja. Ach so. Plötzlich wird es blitzehell, im Klassenraum scheinen ganze Kronleuchter anzugehen. "Vogel ist der Überbegriff", jubiliert eine Oberstuflerin. Auch ihre Mitschüler zwitschern jetzt munter drauflos. "Und der Spatz ist ein ganz konkreter Vogel." "Ein einzelner Vertreter der Gattung." Bingo. Der fremde Gast, der sich als Journalist vorgestellt hat, nimmt die Kreide in die Hand. "Vogel" schreibt er ganz oben an die Tafel, daneben "Überbegriff" und "Allgemeines". Unten pinselt er "Spatz" hin und "Meise", daneben "Konkretes". Und, fragt er dann, gibt es jetzt den Vogel - oder nur den Spatz oder die Meise? "Eigentlich gibt es nur den Spatz oder die Meise, beide kann man sehen und in die Hand nehmen", meint ein Schüler, "der Vogel ist dagegen eher etwas Abstraktes." Ein anderer meldet Widerspruch an: "Aber den Vogel gibt es doch auch. Es ist ein Tier, das fliegen kann und Federn hat, man kann ihn klar definieren."
- Die Philosophen im Clinch - wegen eines Vogels Der Mann an der Tafel strahlt. "Jetzt habt ihr's. Genau diese Diskussion wird unter Denkern seit Jahrhunderten geführt, da flogen mitunter sogar die Fetzen." Als sich in den Gesichtern der Gymnasiasten neue Fragezeichen abzeichnen, erklärt der Gast: "Die einen sagten, nur der Allgemeinbegriff sei real, sozusagen der Vogel, die Idee - für die anderen waren nur die einzelnen Dinge real, also der Spatz und die Meise, das Konkrete." An der Tübinger Uni seien sich die Vertreter beider Positionen früher so spinnefeind gewesen, dass sie sich nicht begegnen wollten. Und daher habe man am Philosophischen Institut zwei Eingänge gebaut. Ungläubige Blicke in der Klasse. Wegen eines Vogels? Jetzt nimmt der Mann an der Tafel wieder die Kreide in die Hand. Er zieht eine Linie vom Wort "Allgemeines" zu "Konkretes". Es gebe, so sagt er mit Nachdruck in der Stimme, noch eine dritte, sehr wichtige Denkposition. "Die geht so: Das Allgemeine, die Idee ist real, doch sie steckt in den Dingen, im Konkreten - und das Konkrete im Allgemeinen. Also: der Vogel im Spatz, der Spatz im Vogel." Diese Position gehe übrigens auf den alten Aristoteles zurück. Und was soll das Ganze?, blinzelt es skeptisch aus den Fragezeichen-Gesichtern. "Das bedeutet zum Beispiel: Frieden ist eine Idee, eine sehr wichtige, es gibt sie, real - doch sie muss sich im Konkreten, im Einzelnen und Besonderen zeigen und gelebt werden. Im Alltag, zwischen zwei Menschen, in einer Schulklasse, in einer Gruppe, in einer Gesellschaft, zwischen Staaten." Der Mann an der Tafel redet sich heiß. "Oder nehmt die Toleranz oder die Demokratie oder die Liebe oder Fairness, oder ..." Jetzt ist die Passion etwas mit ihm durchgegangen. Doch immer mehr Fragezeichen-Mienen hellen sich auf. Ein Finger zuckt: "Das heißt, es reicht nicht nur, so was wie Toleranz als Idee zu denken, sondern man sollte sie umsetzen, ganz konkret? Ist es das?" Der Tafel-Mann nickt im Akkord. "Ja, und so wird im Einzelnen, im direkten Handeln eines Menschen, die Toleranz als Idee erkennbar. Das Allgemeine im Konkreten, das Konkrete im Allgemeinen."
- Auch das Lernen funktioniert so: übers Konkrete zum Allgemeinen Der Vogel scheint gelandet. Und auch der Spatz. "Nach genau demselben Prinzip funktioniert eine gute Geschichte, eine Erzählung oder eine Reportage", sagt der Mann an der Tafel, der sich als Journalist vorgestellt hat. Und jetzt streichen die Oberstufler die letzten Fragezeichen aus ihren Gesichtern. "Klar", sagt einer, "eine Geschichte wird dann spannend, wenn sie ganz konkret erzählt wird, zum Beispiel was genau passiert ist oder wie jemand aussieht." Er überlegt. "Dann schnalle ich auch das Thema, um das es geht, gell?" Eine Schülerin feixt: "Ist das Thema dann der Vogel?" Der da vorne nickt wieder sein Akkord-Nicken. Und sieht sich in seiner didaktischen Mission jetzt ganz vorne. "Beim Lernen, also bei dem, was ihr macht, ist es genauso. Wenn in irgendeinem Fach ein neues Thema behandelt wird, eine Klausur oder eine schriftliche Ausarbeitung ansteht, habt ihr im Laufe der Zeit eine Menge konkreter Informationen beieinander. Und dann geht es darum: Wie zeigt sich das Thema in den einzelnen Informationen? Und was sind die einzelnen Dinge, an denen ich das Thema besonders griffig festmachen kann?" Der Möchtegern-Aristoteles an der Tafel hebt den Finger: "Wer so vorgeht, lernt schneller und effektiver - und er zeigt den Lehrern, dass er's kapiert hat. Und dass er ein Thema strukturieren kann." Mehrere Gymnasialklassen in Baden-Württemberg wurden von uns in den vergangenen Monaten bereits mit dieser Lernmethode traktiert. Neben "Lernen als Recherche" (siehe dazu "Sind Hauptschüler bessere Analytiker?" in der Rubrik "Pulsschlag") ist das ein weiteres Projekt, mit dem die Kontext:Wochenzeitung in Schulen geht und es kostenlos anbietet und umsetzt. Es geht um die Vermittlung von Denkstrukturen und -mustern, die das Lernen fördern sollen, letztlich um vernetztes Denken. Der Ansatz, strukturiert denken und arbeiten zu können, ist eine Kernkompetenz in der schulischen wie in jeder anderen Art von Ausbildung. Und in jedem Beruf. Laut einschlägigen Bildungsstudien und der Erfahrung vieler Lehrer und Ausbilder sind jedoch bei vielen Schülern gerade in diesem zentralen Kompetenzbereich Defizite festzustellen.
- Manche Seminararbeiten sind "wie Kraut und Rüben" Es mangelt demnach häufig an der Fähigkeit, etwa die Idee eines Textes an seinen ganz konkreten Strukturen zu erkennen und beschreiben zu können oder hinter der konkreten Gleichung das mathematische Prinzip zu realisieren. Derweil beklagen nicht nur Lehrer, sondern auch immer mehr Dozenten an Hochschulen und Universitäten, dass schriftliche Arbeiten ihrer Studenten häufig unstrukturiert daherkommen, "wie Kraut und Rüben". Seminare, die dieses Defizit beheben sollen, sind ein Renner bei Studenten. Offensichtlich spielt eben nicht nur die bildungspolitisch primär diskutierte Hardware wie etwa die Einrichtung von Ganztagsschulen eine wichtige Rolle, sondern auch die Frage, ob es auch in der Software an Schulen Änderungen geben sollte oder muss. Die Vermittlung von Kompetenzen und Lernmethoden steht zwar prominent in den Bildungsplänen, worauf gerne auch der ehemalige Lehrer und heutige Ministerpräsident Winfried Kretschmann verweist. Doch auf Knopfdruck oder Kommando lassen sich solche Fähigkeiten nicht abrufen - man muss sie lehren und lernen. Und Realität sei, so beklagen zahlreiche Gymnasiallehrer, dass gerade beim G 8 die Vermittlung des verdichteten Lernstoffes kaum Zeit dafür lasse, den Schülern intensiv genug Kompetenzen und Methoden nahezubringen. "Ist das jetzt die Vogel- oder die Spatzebene?" "Ich glaube, ich brauche für meine GFS noch mehr Spatzen oder Meisen." In etlichen Schulklassen, die wir in den vergangenen Wochen besucht haben, kursieren inzwischen tierisch merkwürdige Codesätze. Egal, ob es um Gedichtinterpretation geht, die Französische Revolution oder die Weimarer Republik, die Globalisierung, das Klima in Afrika, das deutsche Wahlrecht oder die Entwicklung des Musicals. Die Schüler lächeln dabei souverän: Wir haben verstanden.
- Wenn mitten im Sommer Winter ist Neben dem Vogel-Spatz-Prinzip vermittelt das Bildungsprojekt weitere elementare Denkstrukturen. Sie finden sich sowohl in der Literatur und in anderen musischen Fächern als auch im Alltag und nicht selten in den Naturwissenschaften, in Ökonomie und Ökologie wieder. Es handelt sich um tradierte Lebens- und Denkmuster, die in der breiten öffentlichen Wahrnehmung weitgehend verschüttgegangen sind, jedoch eine verblüffende Aktualität haben - wenn man sie ganz konkret wieder wahrnimmt. Der Bezug von Zeit und Raum ist solch ein Thema. Und der von außen und innen. Der Wechsel von Jahreszeiten wird, trotz Fußbodenheizung und Sonnenstudios, zwar heute noch wahrgenommen. Dock kaum mehr bewusst ist, dass und wie sich das Außen der Natur auf das Innere des Menschen bezieht. Im tradierten Denken und in der Literatur steht der Sommer für Freude und Kommunikation, der Winter für Trauer und Isolation. Das kapiert jedes Schulkind, man kennt's etwa aus fröhlichen Sommer- und melancholischen Winterliedern. Spannend wird dieses Jahreszeitenschema aber, wenn Dynamik reinkommt und Gegensätze aufbrechen. Wenn mitten im kalten Winter ein Ros' entsprungen ist - was die christliche "Idee" so konkret werden lässt. Oder aber, erschütternd existenziell, wenn mitten im Sommer plötzlich das Leben gefriert. Hölderlins berühmtes Gedicht "Hälfte des Lebens" steht dafür: In der ersten Strophe ein harmonisches Spätsommerbild mit gelben Birnen, wilden Rosen und dem Land, das in den See ragt. Und den Schwänen, die ihr Haupt ins heilignüchterne Wasser senken. Dann, in der zweiten Strophe, der krasse Kontrast: ein frierendes, zerrissenes Ich, das den Winter fürchtet, die Mauern stehn, im Winde klirren, hörbar kalt, die Fahnen. Ein Leben am Gefrierpunkt. Als wir in einer Berufsschule dieses Lebens- und Denkmuster am Hölderlin-Gedicht vorstellen, streckt eine junge angehende Altenpflegerin: "Das kenne ich vom Heim. Die alten Menschen sind dann besonders traurig, wenn es draußen schön ist, sich alle freuen, sie aber allein sind und nicht dazugehören."
- Der Kreis steht für das Ganze Ein zweites Beispiel: Seit Menschengedenken gibt es die (Lebens-)Symbolik von Weg und Kreis. Im historischen oder religiösen Denken spielen beide Strukturen eine wichtige Rolle, aber auch in der Musik, Biologie, Ökologie oder Ökonomie. Und, natürlich, in der Mathematik. Heute dominiert das Weg-Denken ("Immer mehr, immer weiter", "Der Weg ist das Ziel"), eher negativ besetzt ist der Kreis, das Zyklische, vor allem, wenn es sich um einen "Teufelskreis" handelt. Vermittelt man jedoch den Bezug von Weg und Kreis, von linearem und zyklischen Denken, horchen Schüler auf: Nicht der Weg, sondern der Kreis steht, seit jeher, für das Ganze - der Weg ist nur ein Teil des Kreises. "Klar, der Kreis hat keinen Anfang und kein Ende, er ist ganz." Die Musik kommt ins Spiel: der Zweier-Rhythmus, der Marsch, der Weg - und dagegen der Walzer, der Dreierrhythmus, der Kreis. Bei der Zahl drei spinnen die Schüler selbst rasch das Netz: Hattrick, Gold, Silber und Bronze, Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit, aller guten Dinge sind drei, Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité, die Dreiecksbeziehung (von älteren Schülern meist feixend ins Feld geführt), quadratisch, praktisch, gut - und, ja, ach so, die Heilige Dreieinigkeit. Das Ganze, da ist es wieder. "Hat die Kreiszahl Pi dann auch was damit zu tun?" Da ist der Mann an der Tafel überfordert. In Mathe war er oft krank. Und da ist noch der Kreis als altes Motiv des Glücks und des Schicksals. Das sich ständig drehende Rad, von der blinden Fortuna angetrieben, auf und nieder, immer wieder, heute noch bruchstückhaft präsent im Glücksrad, im Roulette oder in Fortuna Düsseldorf. Oder in Hesses "Unterm Rad". Den Schülern wird's ganz schwindlig. Der Mann an der Tafel schmunzelt: "Ihr seht, Denken ist Glückssache." Wie schätzen die Profis, die Lehrer, die Vermittlung solcher konkreter Lebens- und Denkstrukturen in Schulen ein, was sagen Eltern und Schüler dazu? Die Kontext:Wochenzeitung würde dies gerne zur Diskussion stellen. Um selbst zu lernen. - Abstract
- Es handelt sich hier um einen aus Krankheitsgründen nicht gehaltenen und erweiterten Beitrag zu einer Podiumsdiskussion auf der diesjährigen iConference in Sheffield (März 2018), die unter dem Titel "Curating the Infosphere" den Ansatz von Luciano Floridi zu einer umfassenden philosophisch-logischen Informationswissenschaft kritisch diskutierte. Während Floridi an seinem sehr weitreichenden Konzept der PI (Philosophy of Information) auf der Basis seiner GDI (General Definition of Information) arbeitet, ist außerhalb unseres Feldes die Social Epistemology der BibliothekswissenschaftlerInnen Margeret Egan und Jesse Shera wieder in den Blick der Erkenntnistheorie geraten. Ferner ist zu beobachten, dass sich andere Wissenschaften in großem Maße des Phänomens Information bemächtigen und es in ihr Wissenschaftsgebäude einbauen. Der vorliegende Text ist ein Plädoyer, genauer hinzuschauen, worum es der Informationswissenschaft ursprünglich ging und dafür, dass sie bei dem großen transdisziplinären Projekt mitwirken sollte, das andere Wissenschaften betreiben.

- Abstract
- Eines der wichtigsten Anliegen adaptiver Informationssysteme ist die Modellierung menschlichen Verhaltes, um unter anderem Benutzerpersonalisierung und Empfehlungen anbieten zu können. Dies geschieht gewöhnlich durch die Beobachtung der Nutzerinteraktionen und durch das direkte Befragen der Benutzer selbst. Wie im Alltag, so auch im Umgang mit Informationssystemen, erweisen sich Menschen in ihren Entscheidungen als unbeständig und sprunghaft; komplexe Kognitionen führen nicht immer zu demselben Ergebnis, sodass sich Wahrscheinlichkeiten für eine Vielzahl möglicher Entscheidungen ergeben. Dieses Phänomen besitzt einen großen Einfluss auf heutige Informationssysteme. Daher stellt sich die Frage nach einer effektiven Modellierung dieser Unsicherheit in der menschlichen Entscheidungsfindung. In diesem Beitrag betrachten wir die Grundidee der Unsicherheit aus drei verschiedenen Perspektiven: der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion, der Metrologie bzw. Physik sowie der Neurowissenschaft. Durch das Zusammenführen dieser Theorien bzw. der Übertragung ihrer spezifischen Methoden können wir eine wichtige Quelle der Unsicherheit menschlicher Entscheidungsfindung identifizieren und die begrenzte Möglichkeit ihrer Vermessung thematisieren. Der Einfluss dieser Unsicherheit wird dabei exemplarisch am Beispiel der komparativen Bewertung von Empfehlungsdiensten illustriert. - Abstract
- Bei den Informationsinfrastrukturen für die Wissenschaft stehen in jüngster Zeit "Virtuelle Forschungsumgebungen" und "Forschungsdaten" ganz oben auf der Tagesordnung. Zweifellos stellt der Umgang mit diesen beiden Bereichen die Wissenschaft, aber auch die mit Infrastruktur befassten Einrichtungen wie Daten-/Rechenzentren, Wissenschaftsverwaltungen und Bibliotheken, vor ganz neue Herausforderungen, etwa bei Qualitätssicherung, (Metadaten-)Standards, Interoperabilität, Qualifizierung, Open Access und Langzeitarchivierung: Die Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart ist seit Mitte 2009 an zwei komplementären Projekten beteiligt, in denen diese neuen Herausforderungen exemplarisch für Lehre und Forschung im Bereich der Naturwissenschaften angegangen werden. Zum einen handelt es sich um das von der KEG geförderte eContentplus-Projekt "LiLa - Library of Labs", mit dem Ziel der Vernetzung von virtuellen Laboren für die akademische Ausbildung. Zum anderen geht es in dem vom Land Baden-Württemberg geförderten Projekt "BW-eLabs - Wissensmanagement in virtuellen und remote Laboren" um die Erweiterung des Zugriffs auf heterogene experimentelle Ressourcen zur nachhaltigen Erschließung sowie Nutzung von Forschungsdaten und Experimenten für Forschungs- und Ausbildungszwecke. Der Beitrag stellt die beiden Projekte zur Diskussion und präsentiert erste Ergebnisse. Darüber hinaus werden die identifizierten Herausforderungen in einen größeren Zusammenhang eingeordnet.

- Abstract
- Forschungsdaten nehmen in den Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften eine immer wichtigere Rolle im Forschungsprozess ein. Doch dieser Vorgang ist nicht frei von Widersprüchen und Missverständnissen - das aus den Naturwissenschaften stammende Konzept "Forschungsdaten" kann nur bedingt auf traditionelle Arbeitsverfahren in den Geisteswissenschaften übertragen werden. Der vorliegende Beitrag thematisiert anhand der Spezifika geisteswissenschaftlicher Forschungsdaten das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Relevanz und Wahrnehmung bei den Forschenden sowie zwischen Konzeption und Umsetzung im Forschungsalltag.

- Abstract
- Die deutsche Informationswissenschaft existiert nur dem Namen nach. Eine eher sporadisch stattfindende fachliche Diskussion dreht sich ausschließlich um praktische Probleme, die Theorie wird weitgehend ignoriert. Kaum jemand ist bereit, über den Tellerrand zu blicken. Es wird versucht, die Informationswissenschaft zur Geisteswissenschaft zu erklären. Die Naturwissenschaften werden ausgeschlossen. Bibliotheks-, Dokumentations- und Archivwissenschaft sollen in der Informationswissenschaft aufgehen. Diese Vorgänge leiteten u. a. das Ende der wissenschaftlichen Dokumentation ein. In diesem Artikel wird dargestellt, wie die Informationswissenschaft aufgebaut werden kann und welche Themen sie behandeln sollte. Dabei wird davon ausgegangen, dass es sich um die "Wissenschaft von der Information" handelt. So muss es Grundlage sein, zu klären, worum es sich bei dem Phänomen "Information" handelt. Es werden verschiedene Ansätze betrachtet und ausgewertet, beginnend mit Shannons Kommunikationstheorie bis hin zur Physik. Der Weg zu einer möglichen Definition wird ebenso behandelt, wie die Eigenschaften der Information und ihre Abgrenzung zu Daten und Wissen.
