    Abstract
    Das menschliche Denken organisiert sich ständig in komplexen Wechselwirkungen zwischen Emotionen und Erkenntnissen. Für das Verständnis dieser Prozesse schlägt Ciompi ein Modell vor, da über die vertraute kausale Logik weit hinausführt Emotion und Kognition wirken zusammen in einem unablässigen Prozeß der Selbstschöpfung, die sich mit ihr eigener Kraft wieder und wieder selbstähnlich hervorzubringen vermag. Erstmals in der Geschichte des Denkens über das menschliche Denken stehen Philosophie, Psychologie und die jüngsten Erkenntnisse der Neurobiologie nicht mehr unvermittelt nebeneinander. In Ciompis Erkenntnis einer fraktalen Affektlogik heben sich ihre Widersprüche auf.     Abstract
    Obgleich "Wahrheit" ein Thema der Philosophie seit ihren historischen Anfängen war, haben sich mit besonderem Gewicht in der Gegenwart, "Wahrheitstheorien" als eigenes philosophisches Teilgebiet unseres Jahrhunderts etabliert, seit in der Philosophie der sogenannte linguistic turn stattgefunden hat. Auslöser dieser Wende waren einerseits das verstärkte Auseinanderdriften von Philosophie und den sogenannten exakten Wissenschaften (vor allem Mathematik und Physik), andererseits die Entwicklung, daß diese modernen Wissenschaften den Philosophien traditionelle Zuständigkeiten streitig machten, um sogleich, in begriffliche Grundlagenkrisen geratend, neue philosophische Fragen und Probleme zu produzieren. Galt Wahrheit seit der Antike als etwas Absolutes und Unumstößliches, unabhängig davon, ob der Mensch Wahrheit zu erkennen vermag oder nicht, so findet der Wahrheitssuchende heute einen Dschungel von Ansätzen, Vorschlägen, Antworten, Problematisierungen und Skeptizismen. In dieser Situation wählt der Marburger Philosoph Peter Janich einen Mittelweg zwischen Absolutheitsanspruch und bloßem Relativismus, den er die "kulturalistische Lösung" nennt. Denn bei der Besinnung auf die Möglichkeit des Erkennens von Wahrheit stellt sich heraus, daß die Menschheit nicht am Mullpunkt der Wahrheitssuche steht, sondern daß das Fragliche immer relativ zum praktisch Bewährten zu sehen ist.     Abstract
    Seit Descartes gehört das Wissen, das wir von unseren eigenen psychischen Zuständen und Vorgängen besitzen, zu den meistdiskutierten Themen der Erkenntnistheorie. Was genau heißt es, in diesem Sinne über "Selbstbewußtsein" zu verfügen? Das Buch fragt, wie tragfähig jene Antworten sind, nach denen wir uns eines epistemisch privilegierten Zugangs zu den eigenen Gedanken und Bewußtseinsinhalten erfreuen. Das "Bewußtsein seiner selbst", so bemerkte indessen schon Kant in diesem Kontext, manifestiert sich in der Fähigkeit eines Subjektes, sich als ein Ich zu denken und "ich" zu sich zu sagen. Selbstbewußtsein haben Wesen demnach, allgemein gesprochen, wenn sie sich in der Ersten Person Singular auf sich beziehen können. Erst in jüngerer Zeit sind die Besonderheiten dieser Form der Selbstreferenz zum Gegenstand ausgiebiger sprachphilosophischer Untersuchungen geworden. Das Buch versucht, diese bedeutungstheoretischen Diskussionen für einige klassische Fragen der Selbstbewußtseinstheorie fruchtbar zu machen.
