- Abstract
- In diesem Buch werden die neuesten kenntnisse über die biologischen, evolutionsbiologischen und neurobiologischen Grundlagen von Wahrnehmung und Erkenntnisleistungen, von Bewußtsein und Geist dargestellt. Es wird diskutiert, wie und innerhalb welcher Grenzen mit den heutigen neurophysiologischen und bildgebenden Verfahren Bewußtsein und Geist 'sichtbar' gemacht werden können. Auf diesen Grundlagen aufbauend, wird im Sinne des Konstruktivismus ein philosophisch-erkenntnistheoretisches Konzept des menschlichen Erlenntnisvermögens entwickelt, das zugleich einen nichtreduktionistischen Physikalismus vertritt. Dieser nimmt im Gegensatz zu einem Dualismus die Einheitlichkeit der Natur auch für die Gehirn-Geist-Beziehung an, ohne zugleich Geist auf die Aktivität von Nervenzellen reduzieren zu wollen. Insbesondere wird auf die Frage nach der Herkunft und Natur unserer Erlebniswelt - der 'Wirklichkeit' - eingegangen sowie auf die Frage nach ihrer Beziehung zu einer bewußtseinsunabhängigen 'Realität'. Die Beantwortung dieser Frage hat weitreichende Konsequenzen für den erkenntnistheoretischen Status (natur)wissenschaftlicher Aussagen. Ein Anspruch auf 'Wahrheit' im Sinne objektiv gültiger Aussagen muß verneint werden - im Wissenschaftsalltag wird ein solcher Anspruch auch gar nicht erhoben.

- Abstract
- Mittlerweile gehören "mentale Modelle" nicht nur zum festen Begiffsrepertoire der Wissenspsychologie, auch die Forschung zur "artifical intelligence" sowie die Instruktionspsychologie benutzen gern diesen Begriff. Ziel dieses Buches ist es, die verschiedenen theoretischen Ansätze zu mentalen Modellen zusammenzuführen und so ein einheitliches Verständnis ihres Zustandekommens und ihrer Funktion für das menschliche Denken zu begründen.

- Abstract
- Zielgerichtetes Handeln setzt Wissen über die Situation, in der man handeln will, voraus - diese Feststellung ist so seIbstverständlich, daB sie fast trivial er scheint. Die kognitionspsychologische Analyse der Rolle, die Wissen bei der Einleitung und Regulation von Handlungsprozessen spielt, ist allerdings weit weniger trivial. Nicht nur, daB man "Wssen" so schlecht beobachten kann, Wissen und Handeln sind auch voneinander abhängig. Handeln basiert auf Wissen, Handeln verandert aber auch Wissen. Dies gilt insbesondere für Handlungsprozesse in komplizierten, unübersichtlichen und schlecht struktu rierten Situationen, in denen man Iangst nicht alles weill, was man fur eine optimale Handlungsplanung eigentlich wissen mUBte. In solchen Situationen wird Wissenserwerb wichtig: Wie kann ich mir das Wissen verschaffen, das mir zur Erreichung meiner Handlungsziele fehlt? Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Untersuchung solcher Wissenserwerbsprozesse beim Umgang mit komplexen, dynamischen Problemstellungen. Dabei werden besonders jene Formen des Wissenserwerbs in den Vordergrund der Betrachtung gerückt, die auf der aktiven Auseinandersetzung mit dem in Frage stehenden Problem beruhen. Es geht also weniger um solche Formen des Wissenserwerbs, die aus der reflexiven Analyse, der gedanklichen Durchdringung von Handbüchern, Instruktionen oder sonstigem sprachlichen Material entstehen. Dem liegt die Annabme zugrunde, dass Wissenserwerb beim Handeln, Wissenserwerb durch das Handeln, eine sehr häufige, für den Menschen typische Form des Lemens ist. Obwohl natürlich die Psychologie des Lemens eine lange Tradition hat, zählt das Studium von Wissenserwerb beim Umgang mit komplexen Problemen erstaunllcherweise erst seit kürzerer Zeit zu den anerkannten Forschungsthemen der kognitiv orientierten Psychologie.

- Abstract
- Multimedia wird unser Leben vermutlich ähnlich einschneidend verändern, wie der Buchdruck im 15. Jahrhundert unsere gesamte Kultur revolutioniert hat. Welche Veränderungen die neue Kommunikationstechnologie bringen wird, hängt nicht nur von der Hard- und Software der Multimediasysteme ab, sondern auch von der Hard- und Software des Menschen - von Gehirnprozessen und psychologischen 'Programmen' beim Denken, Wahrnehmen und Fühlen. Die Möglichkeiten, aber auch die Grenzen multimedialer Information werden deutlich, wenn man sich etwa vor Augen führt, wie viel Information wir allein beim Sehen ausblenden, wie wir Information im Gedächtnis abspeichern, wie wir verschiedenen Sinne synchronisieren. Auch für Medien gilt: Weniger ist manchmal mehr. Wenn man das Buch in die Hand nimmt und die Demonstrationsprogramme auf der beiliegenden CD-ROM dazu anschaut, wird man verstehen, warum es immer noch gewinnbringend ist, ein Buch zu lesen, und warum es durch ein elektronisches Medium sinnvoll ergänzt werden kann
