- Der Liman Literaturmanager verwaltet Literaturangaben, seien es Bücher, Zeitschriftenartikel oder Beiträge, in einem Sammelband

- "Für bibliografische Angaben wie Autor, Titel und Erscheinungsjahr ist der obere Teil der Eingabemaske vorgesehen. Der Mittelteil hilft bei Beschaffung und Archi-vierung der Materialien: Ein Häkchen zeigt, ob eine Veröffentlichung noch fehlt oder schon abgelegt wurde. Angaben dazu, unter welcher Signatur und in welcher Bibliothek das Werk verfügbar ist, finden hier ebenso Platz wie Verweise auf das heimische Ablagesystem. Die Stichwort-Zuordnung erleichtert später das Suchen nach Material zu einem bestimmten Teilgebiet. In das Feld für die Zusammenfassung passen bis zu 4000 Zeichen; sinnvoll sind hier eine Inhaltsangabe oder einige kurze Zitate. Mit dem Literaturmanager kann man zwar beliebig viele Datenbanken aufbauen, allerdings immer nur eine zur selben Zeit öffnen. Der Export der Daten ist nur in eine Textdatei möglich, dabei kann man das Format mit einem kleinen Editor festlegen. Zum Import geeignet sind Datensätze aus Standard-Datenbanken, außerdem versteht Liman Excel- und Txt-Dateien. Hersteller infoball hofft vor allem auf Anwender, die das Web-Portal infoball.de zur Literaturrecherche benutzen. Der Import dieses Recherche-Ergebnisses in die Liman-Datenbank ist dabei für Inhaber eines kostenpflichtigen Accounts besonders einfach, möglich ist er aber bereits nach einer kostenlosen Registrierung. Insgesamt ist Liman 2.7 ein unkompliziertes Einsteigerprogramm, das auch für Studenten erschwinglich ist (? 50)."

- Abstract
- Will man sich auf dem weiten Feld der Datenverarbeitung die Entwicklungsstadien der letzten drei Jahrzehnte vergegenwärtigen, ist es hilfreich, mindestens vier Aspekte in den Blick zu nehmen: - Hardware: Industrie, Systeme - Software: Programmierung, Sprachen, Entwicklungssysteme - Software: Konkrete Anwendungsfelder, z.B. Bibliothekswesen - Bestimmte Anwendungssysteme, z.B. allegro-C Am Beispiel des an der UB Braunschweig entstandenen Systems allegro-C, dessen Entwicklung 1980 begann und bis heute andauert, lassen sich die Trends, die Evo- und Revolutionen der 30 Jahre nachverfolgen, und dies wird hier versucht. Die Stationen und Etappen der allegro-Geschichte sind knapp aufgelistet in einer Chronik, die ihrerseits im Kern eine spezialisierte allegro-Datenbank ist. Für die Anfangszeit bis Ende 1994 existiert eine ausführliche Darstellung der Entwicklung von Torsten Ahlers.

- Ergebnisse einer Umfrage über die Anwendung des Datenbankprogramms CDS/ISIS in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Von 130 angeschriebenem deutschen ISIS-Lizenznehmern haben 42 geantwortet, die das Programm nicht anwenden und 20, die es anwenden. Deren Verhalten, Gründe für die Nicht-Nutzung und verwirklichte Anwendungen wurden ausführlich untersucht und dargelegt.Auf eine allgemeine Auswertung hin folgt ein Überblick über das ISIS-Anwendungsspektrum mit konkreten Einzeldarstellungen aller Anwender. Im ersten Teil werden Hauptmerkmale und -funktionen des leistingsfähigen Programm beschrieben und bewertet, außerdem Bedeutung und Verbreitung in anderen Ländern kurz vorgestellt

- Das Dokument enthält einen Vergleich von sechs Literaturverwaltungsprogrammen - Zotero, Citavi, Mendeley, RefWorks, EndNote und JabRef. Es wurden Versionen mit Stand 11/2016 getestet. Folgende Kriterien wurden berücksichtigt: Allgemeines und Installation, Import- / Exportmöglichkeiten, Dateneingabe und -bearbeitung, Anzeige und Suche, Kooperation, Zitieren und Literaturlisten, weitere Funktionen und Benutzung. Der Vergleich schließt mit einer Gesamtbewertung der Stärken und Schwächen und gibt zielgruppenspezifische Auswahlempfehlungen.

- Abstract
- Dieser Fachbeitrag behandelt die Nachweise paralleler Druck- und Online-Ausgaben in Bibliothekskatalogen und Dokumenten-Suchmaschinen. Der Nachweis hybrider Publikationen, d. h. von parallel als Druck- und als Online-Ausgabe erschienenen Veröffentlichungen in Bibliothekskatalogen und Datenbanken ist von großer Diversität gekennzeichnet. Auch der direkte Zugang über die Kataloge zum im Netz frei verfügbaren elektronischen Gegenstück einer Printpublikation ist nicht selbstverständlich. Am Beispiel ausgewählter hybrider Publikationen wird gezeigt, wie Bibliotheken, Verbünde und Suchmaschinen in Deutschland und weltweit damit umgehen. In einer weitreichenden Analyse haben die Autorinnen die unterschiedlichen Handhabungen analysiert und kritisch bewertet. Die Arbeit gibt einerseits die Ergebnisse der Recherche wieder und richtet andererseits das Augenmerk auf die Notwendigkeit einheitlicher Katalogisierungsrichtlinien für hybride Publikationen.

- Abstract
- Der Bereich der Literaturverwaltung ist in den letzten Jahren stark in Bewegung geraten. Wurde der Markt über lange Jahre durch Anwendungen wie Endnote und Reference Manager dominiert, sind nun in kurzer Zeit neben diese etablierten Produkte zahlreiche neue Softwares und Tools getreten. So gibt es seit 2002 mit RefWorks ein Literaturverwaltungsprogramm, das vollkommen webbasiert arbeitet; im Bereich der Social Software sind Anwendungen wie BibSonomy, CiteULike und Connotea entstanden; und das vielbeachtete Tool Zotero4 beschreitet gänzlich neue Wege, indem es sich als Add-On direkt in den Browser integriert. Ein umfangreicher Vergleich wichtiger aktueller Literaturverwaltungsprogramme bzw. -dienste, der im Rahmen eines DFG-Projekts an der UB Augsburg entstanden ist, hat dabei gezeigt, dass die verglichenen kommerziellen Programme (Citavi, Endnote mit Endnote Web, RefWorks) mittlerweile kaum mehr Unterschiede beim Leistungsumfang aufweisen. Der zentrale Unterschied liegt vielmehr in der zugrundeliegenden Arbeitsphilosophie: während Anwendungen wie Citavi und Endnote als Einzelplatzlösungen konzipiert sind und eher auf einen individuellen Datenpool abzielen, arbeiten Endnote Web und RefWorks webbasiert und können dadurch auch eine Reihe zusätzlicher Kooperationsfunktionalitäten bereitstellen. Ebenfalls webbasiert arbeiten Dienste wie BibSonomy und Connotea, die in den letzten Jahren neben diese kommerziellen Produkte getreten sind und das Prinzip der Social Software auf den Bereich der Literaturverwaltung übertragen. Auf diese Entwicklung haben bereits erste Bibliotheken reagiert und diese Dienste in ihre Angebote eingebunden. So kann beispielsweise im Kölner Universitäts-Gesamtkatalog aus der Trefferanzeige heraus über einen entsprechenden Button ein Treffer direkt an BibSonomy gesendet werden; die Metadaten der im Dokumentenserver der LMU München gespeicherten Dokumente werden automatisch in Connotea eingespeist. Diese Beispiele machen deutlich, dass wir es derzeit mit einer sehr dynamischen Entwicklung zu tun haben, die zugleich offenbar zu einem qualitativen Sprung im Bereich der Literaturverwaltungsprogramme bzw. -dienste geführt hat. Um diesen qualitativen Sprung etwas genauer zu beschreiben, möchten wir im Folgenden eine Typologie vorstellen mit dem Ziel, die einzelnen Entwicklungstendenzen besser sichtbar zu machen. Im Anschluss möchten wir auf die Frage eingehen, welche konkreten neuen Anwendungsszenarien des wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens sich aus diesen Entwicklungen ableiten lassen. Wir unterscheiden in diesem Sinne drei Arten von Literaturverwaltungsprogrammen: 1. die "traditionelle" Literaturverwaltung, die wesentlich auf einen einzelnen Nutzer und seine Daten bezogen ist ("geschlossenes System") 2. die webbasierte Literaturverwaltung I, die Online-Accounts bereitstellt mit der Möglichkeit von begrenzten Freigaben für andere Nutzer ("halboffenes System") 3. die webbasierte Literaturverwaltung II, die - ganz im Sinne der Social Software - auf einen gemeinsamen Datenpool abzielt ("offenes System").

- Abstract
- Im Sommer 2005 ist die neueste Version des weit verbreiteten persönlichen Literaturverwaltungssystems EndNote erschienen. Noch im Jahre 2000 musste diese Gattung von Software genauer beschrieben und für deutsche Wissenschaftler erklärt werden. Mittlerweile hat sich deren Gebrauch sogar institutionell verbreitet. So bietet der GBV EndNote und Reference Manager Connection Files, der edoc-Server der HU Berlin schreibt die Benutzung eigener Formate zur Ablieferung von Dissertationsliteraturlisten vor und die Max-Planck-Gesellschaft nutzt EndNote und Reference Manager offiziell für ihre Jahres-Berichte um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen. Obwohl viele (Natur-)Wissenschaftler eher von BiB-TeX oder "freien" Bibliographiemanagementsystemen kommen, scheinen sich diese beiden doch immer mehr durchzusetzen. Es erstaunt etwas, dass Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaftler sich dieser Systeme offenbar weniger bedienen, obwohl bekannt ist, dass deren Forschungsfront gerade eher auf bibliographische Vollständigkeit angewiesen ist als die der Naturwissenschaftler. Der Wettlauf zwischen EndNote und dem Konkurrenzprodukt aus dem Hause ISI ist jedoch nicht beendet wie ich noch vor Jahren spekulierte. ISI bzw. Thomson als dem Produzenten von Reference Manager hatte die beiden Konkurrenten EndNote und ProCite aufgekauft und man konnte erwarten, dass sich die Systeme angleichen und dem Nutzer der Übergang zu einem zentral gepflegten ISI Angebot erleichtert wird. In gewissen Teilen hat tatsächlich eine Angleichung stattgefunden. Die als herausragend empfundene Eigenschaft von Profite in höherem Maße inhaltliche Erschließung zu unterstützen ist mittlerweile auch bei den beiden anderen implementiert. Die einzigen verbleibenden Unterschiede (marketingtechnisch gesprochen: USPs - unique selling propositions) sind die Fähigkeit ProCites, Webseiten "on-the-fly" zu katalogisieren-sofern diese Metadaten aufweisen, die Web Publisher Funktion und erhöhte Netzwerkfähigkeit von Reference Manager sowie die Palm Version und die leicht größeren technischen Kapazitäten von Endnote und dessen Fähigkeit Abbildungen und Objekte direkt einzufügen. Zumindest ist zwischen EndNote und Reference Manager die Entscheidung nicht gefallen, da beide auf eigene Weise weiterentwickelt werden, während Profite seit sechs Jahren kein Update mehr erfahren hat. EndNote ist in den fünf Jahren seit der letzten Besprechung um 5 Versionsnummern auf Nummer 9 gewachsen. Reference Manager hat es auf elf (von 9.5) geschafft. In anderthalb Jahren wird EndNote also Reference Manager überholt haben. Man fragt sich, was die Unterschiede ausmacht, die solche Sprünge in den Versionsbezeichnungen rechtfertigen. Meist handelt es sich um die Einbindung neuer connection files und Importfilter, die Vorgabe neuer Medienformen und neuer bibliographischer Stile (Formatvorlagen): also neben der Anpassung an weiterentwickelte Betriebssysteme eher um quantitative Verbesserungen. Vielleicht ist der Vergleich gewagt, aber mir drängt sich die Parallele zu Virusprogrammen auf: Was wäre wenn diese bei jedem update des virus defintion files eine neue Versionsnummer erhielten? Andere Neuerungen wie die Unterstützung von XML, WSDL, openURL und teilweise auch Unicode werden von den Kunden sicher als selbstverständlich vorausgesetzt oder aber gar nicht bemerkt. Der Abstand der aktuellen Versionsnummer zur eigenen Version erhöht oft nur den psychologischen Druck, endlich auf die neue Fassung umzusteigen. Die meist um die 200 EUR (120 EUR für das update) dafür sind nicht immer gerechtfertigt.

Die Software unterstützt Sie bei der Verwaltung der Luiteraturhinweise. Sie können dort die entsprechenden Daten per Hand oder über die integrierten Schenittstellen zu Recherchesystemen einlesen. Durch Vorschläge zur Stichwortvergabe vereinfacht das Programm die Erfassung. Die Auswertungskriterien (nach Autoren, Stichworten, Signaturen und Fachgebieten) lassen sich am Bildschirm definieren.
