    Abstract

    Abstract

    Abstract
Harlow Viewdata is a viewdata service of 9 public access terminals provided by Harlow District Council Advice Centre, UK which dealt with over 3.000 queries in its 1st year of opration. Outlines the experience of setting up a local authority viewdata service and describes Datavision, Innovative Videotext and Metrotel viewdata terminals. Maintenance charges are expansive for terminals, therefore paying one-off call out charges are most economical. It is difficult to keep viewdata systems up-to-date and when setting up a service it is advisable to ensure that staff and others concerned are fully aware of their roles

    Abstract
It is important to ensure data integrity, consistency and safety in a new data bank. The Systematischer Katalog-Musikalien (The Classified Catalogue of Musical Scores) in the music department of the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek (East German national library) was first produced in computerised form over a year ago. The programme permits many automated checks and controls concerning the correctness and completeness of stored data. Other checking procedures are performed by staff at the keyboard. At present the data bank contains over 3.000 entries for composers, titles and subjects.

    Abstract
The Gladstone diaries (1825-1896) consist of 13 volumes of text recording much of the political and cultural history of the 19th century. Its index, which is in 3 parts published in a separate volume of 862 pages, was compiled using 'ingres' database software so as to allow searchers easily to find the 20.500 people, the 22.000 book and periodical titles, the 550 cabinets, the 3.000 letters and the mass of political and personal detail which the diaries contain

    Abstract
The library at Hofenfels Gymnasium in Zweibrücken stocks 22.000 books and 3.000 AV-media and works closely with other local libraries. The library chose the Danish program BiblioMatic for EDP use, simple and clear with a whole series of school orieted additional functions. The program's use for loans, retrieval, recording of books and readers, orders, statistics and its data safety are described. After a year's use, BiblioMatic is working well

    Abstract
Reports from the Frakfurt Book Fair, 1996, considering the future of the CD-ROM market. The German home CD-ROM market is booming. 400 CD-ROM titles were published in 1994, 1.500 in 1995 and 2.000-2.500 are estimated for 1996. 720 million DM were earned from CD-ROMs in 1995. Future growth cannot be taken for granted. 3.000 to 5.000 copies must be sold to break even. Discusses the results of Andersen Consulting's survey of the German market; the best strategy for business and STM publishers; and how the EC fits into this scenario
