    Abstract
    The library of the Cité des Sciences et de l'industrie attracts 4.000 visitors daily of whom 25% consult the GEAC system OPAC. Describes a 1992 survey consisting of online questions followed by an interview. The questionnaires were adapted from ones used in the UK and utilised OLIVE (Online Interactive Validation and Evaluation). While difficulties arose from users' inconsistency in their replies and failures to answer questions, it has become clear that subject access is unsatisfactory, sometimes because of mistyping by the searcher but also because of the vocabulary problems and lack of guidance in search strategies

    Abstract
    The first edition of the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms was published in 1974 by the American Psychological Association to answer a need for controlled vocabulary to represent precisely the literature of psychology and related disciplines contained in Psychological Abstracts and the PsycINFO database. As the field of psychology has grown and evolved, 5 subsequent editions of the thesaurus have improved and extended the original vocabulary of 4.000 postable and nonpostable terms. In addition, several features have been added, including a rotated alphabetical terms section, scope notes, posting notes and in the new sixth editon (1991), an index term clusters section
