Erst seit kurzem weiß man, dass solche Psychotraumatisierungen auch zu biologischen Veränderungen im Gehirn führen können. Der alte Traum des Begründers der Psychoanalyse, Sigmund Freud, zu einer Vereinheitlichung von Neurologie und Psychologie zu kommen, klingt damit an: Das menschliche Gehirn ist keineswegs einer Computerfestplatte gleich, die einmal installiert, nur noch mit der Verarbeitung von Informationen und Speicherungen von Programmen beschäftigt ist. Der Brückenschlag zwischen den Disziplinen ist gelungen, die Darstellung anschaulich und mit zahlreichen Graphiken und Bildtafeln versehen.
