    Abstract
    Internet und E-Business gehören heute zum wirtschaftlichen Alltag. Beu näherer Betrachtung fällt auf, dass weniger als die Hälfte der traditionellen KMU in Europa einen Internet-Zugang besitzt. Paradoxerweise besteht bei sehr vielen traditionellen KMU ein großes Interesse, dieses Potenzial nutzbringend zu integrieren. Ein Problem ist die Inhomogenität der Zielgruppe KMU, die sowohl Dienstleister als auch Fördermittelgeber zu schaffen macht. Maßgeschneiderte Lösungen für KMU bedeuten etwas ganz anderes als Lösungen für Großunternehmen. Der Beitrag zeigt einige dieser Schwachstellen auf und demonstriert an einem Beispiel, wie es funktionieren könnte

    Abstract
    Mit insgesamt sechs halbjährlichen Faktenberichten, ergänzt durch jährliche Trendberichte, analysieren NFO Infratest Bereich Information und Dokumentation, München und das Institute for Information Economics, Hattingen, im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Technologie bis zum Jahr 2003 den Entwicklungsstand der Informationswirtschaft und seiner Teilmärkte in Deutschland im weltweiten Vergleich. Der vierte Faktenbericht ist eine internationale Benchmarking-Studie, die die deutsche Informationswirtschaft im Vergleich zu Europa, USA und Japan beschreibt. Es werden verlässliche und aktuelle Daten zurMarktentwicklung ermittelt und über mehrere Jahre fortgeschrieben. 26 Prozent der Daten enthalten Prognosen bis 2010, 41 Prozent werden zusätzlich in Zeitreihen (1999 bis 2005) dargestellt die wichtigsten Daten werden in Form von 436 Charts visualisiert. Der Trendbericht ergänzt diese Darstellung durch eine Befragung deutscher Experten, die ein differenziertes und umfassendes Meinungs- und Stimmungsbild der Informationswirtschaft zu den für sie zentralen Fragen ergeben und auf bevorstehende Entwicklungen in der Informationswirtschaft aufmerksam machen. DerArtikel fasst die wesentlichen Ergebnisse des 4. Faktenberichts und 2. Trendberichts zusammen.     In der Zeit des Internets und E-Commerce müssen auch deutsche Informationsfachleute ihre Dienste auf Englisch anbieten und sogar auf Englisch gestalten, um die internationale Community zu erreichen. Auf der anderen Seite spielt gerade auf dem Wissensmarkt Europa die sprachliche Identität der einzelnen Nationen eine große Rolle. In diesem Spannungsfeld zwischen Globalisierung und Lokalisierung arbeiten Informationsvermittler und werden dabei von Sprachspezialisten unterstützt. Man muss sich darüber im Klaren sein, dass jede Sprache - auch die für international gehaltene Sprache Englisch - eine Sprachgemeinschaft darstellt. In diesem Beitrag wird anhand aktueller Beispiele gezeigt, dass Sprache nicht nur grammatikalisch und terminologisch korrekt sein muss, sie soll auch den sprachlichen Erwartungen der Rezipienten gerecht werden, um die Grenzen der Sprachwelt nicht zu verletzen.     Abstract
    This paper proposes a framework for analyzing management processes of inter-firm competence. Effective and efficient management of inter-firm competence is suggested to depend an a balance between knowledge systems and enabling information technologies. Knowledge processes comprise processes to collect, generate, diffuse, utilize and dispose knowledge. Managing these processes in an inter-firm environment poses some new challenges both to knowledge and information system development as well.
