    Abstract
    Der Beitrag gibt einen kritischen Rückblick auf die Experimente des ASLIB-CranfieldProjekts, mit dem die Leistungsfähigkeit verschiedenere Methoden der Inhaltserschließung verglichen wurden. Bemängelt wird die fehlende Unterscheidung zwischen Erinnerungsrecherche und Entdeckungsrecherche sowie die Wirklichkeitsferne der Versuchsbedingungen im ASLIB-Cranfield Projekt insbesondere Abwertung der Indexierung, Wirklichkeitsferne der Suchziele, die Empfehlung zum oberflächlichen Indexieren, die vermeintliche "gesetzmäßige Umkehrrelation" zwischen Ballast und Verlust sowie die Geringschätzung von Informationsverlust. Der Autor plädiert dafür, bei der Weiterentwicklung von Methoden der Inhaltserschließung die Erfahrungen aus der Vergangenheit nicht außer Acht zu lassen.
