    Abstract
    Es wird ein Überblick gegeben über Grundzüge des für die verbale Sacherschließung im deutschsprachigen Raum zunehmend verwendeten Regelwerks RSWK und die für dessen Anwendung entwickelten Hilfsmittel, vor allem die Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD), eine thesaurusartige, aber offene Normdatei, die kooperativ durch die Deutsche Bibliothek und mehrere Verbünde geführt wird. Die Ansetzung von Begriffen basiert auf deren Nachweis in Nachschlagewerken sowie auf normierenden Verwendungsregeln, die auch Analogien vorsehen. Die Einbeziehung zahlreicher Fachleute in die Terminologiekontrolle dient der wissenschaftlichen Korrektheit und Aktualität. - Im Bereich der Kunst liegt der Schwerpunkt neben den Sachbegriffen und Personennamen auf den Werken der bildenden Kunst, für die es detaillierte Ansetzungsregeln gibt. In allen Schlagwortkategorien wird das Retrieval durch zahlreiche Verweisungen erleichtert. Obwohl die RSWK nicht allen individuellen Anforderungen verschiedener Spezialbibliotheken genügen können. dürfte durch geringe Modifikationen auf der Basis der SWD auch eine Verknüpfung von Literatur- und Objekterschließung im Kunstbereich möglich sein
