    Abstract
    Die erste Spam wurde 1978 an 400 Empfänger im Arpanet geschickt. Absender war ein Mitarbeiter der PR-Abtei lung von Digital Equipment Corporation (Dec), der darin für den damals neuen Decsystem-20-Rechner der Firma warb. Heute macht Spam mehr als zwei Drittel der über das Internet versandten E-Mails aus; täglich werden mehrere Milliarden solcher unverlangten Werbebotschaften versandt. Ein Drittel aller EMail-Nutzer hat mehr als 80 Prozent Spam in der elektronischen Post. Seit einiger Zeit sorgt Spam zudem durch so genannte Phishing-Attacken für Ärger: Dabei werden gefälschte E-Mails, die Fake-E-Mails, verschickt, die scheinbar von Mitarbeitern großer, Vertrauen erweckender Institutionen stammen, tatsächlich aber von Betrügern kommen - um damit Kreditkartennummern oder andere persönliche Informationen auszuspionieren. Nach einer Studie von Gartner Research von 2004 verursachen Phishing-Attacken in den USA Schäden in Höhe von jährlich 1,2 Milliarden Dollar. Spammer nutzen nicht nur E-Mail. In Chatrooms warten »Roboter«, die sich als Menschen ausgeben und Leute zu Klicks auf pornografische Webseiten verleiten sollen. Nutzer von Instant-Messaging-Systemen (IM) bekommen es mit so genannten splMs zu tun, engen »Verwandten« des Spams. In Web-Blogs (Web-Tagebüchern) lauern »Link-Spammer«, welche die Arbeit von Internetsuchmaschinen manipulieren, indem sie unerwünschte Links hinzufügen - was die Nutzung von Webseiten und Links erschwert. Spam steht teilweise in dem Ruf, die Internetkommunikation zu behindern oder gar zum Erliegen zu bringen. Die Wirklichkeit sieht indes nicht ganz so schwarz aus. Softwareentwickler haben verschiedene Techniken ersonnen, Spam auszufiltern und Spammern das Handwerk zu erschweren - weitere werden in Labors erprobt. Die hier vorgestellten Methoden richten sich gegen Junk-EMail, könnten aber auch zur Eindämmung anderer Spamvarianten verwendet werden. Keine dieser Techniken vermag Wunder zu vollbringen, doch ihre Kombination - sofern möglichst viele User sie anwenden - verspricht zumindest deutliche Verbesserungen. Es ist nicht unrealistisch zu hoffen, dass unsere E-MailPostfächer eines Tages wieder nahezu frei von Spam sein werden.

    Zahlreiche Unternehmen und Organisationen nutzen die Plattform fürs Marketing - Geld verdienen sie damit aber nicht. «Im Moment sind wir in einem Experimentierstadium», sagt Manfred Heinze, dessen Agentur TextLab PR-Konzepte für «Second Life» entwickelt und die größte deutsche Kolonie «Apfelland» mitträgt. Die bisherigen Aktivitäten seien trotzdem keine Geldverschwendung, sondern wichtige Erfahrungen. Denn 3D-Welten böten im Vergleich zum Internet echten Zusatznutzen: «Wer sich für ein Auto interessiert, setzt sich rein und guckt, wie das Armaturenbrett aussieht», nennt er ein Beispiel. Das Internet wird mehr und mehr zu einer virtuellen Welt, da sind sich die Experten sicher. «Es kann sein, dass die Plattform 'Second Life' irgendwann tot ist - die Idee dahinter wird sich durchsetzen», ist Lattemann überzeugt."

    Die Idee des editierbaren Internets geht zurück auf den Erfinder des World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee, der in seinem Buch Weaving the Web die Grundideen der Wiki-Philosophie aussprach: "Das Web editieren zu können ist genauso wichtig, wie durch es zu browsen." Aber haben Sites, an denen jeder zufällig Vorbeisurfende herumdoktern kann, überhaupt eine Überlebenschance? Wer schon einmal beobachtet hat, wie schnell offene Systeme wie Gästebücher oder Foren im Chaos versinken können, mag berechtigte Zweifel anmelden. Erstaunlicherweise funktionieren offene Wikis aber hervorragend. Beispielsweise Wikipedia: Das seit 2001 laufende Enzyklopädie-Projekt umfasst in der englischsprachigen Variante mehr als 144 000 Artikel. Das Mammutvorhaben, das Wissen der Welt in einem Wiki festzuhalten, wird nicht von einer Hand voll Autoren und Redakteuren angegangen. Vielmehr kann jeder Surfer sein persönliches Know-how dazu beisteuern. Dank der globalen Teamarbeit haben die Wikipedia-Artikel eine beachtliche Qualität erreicht - und können sich bisweilen durchaus mit professionellen und kostspieligen Nachschlagewerken messen. Der Journalist und Bestseller-Autor Sheldon Rampton verfolgt mit seinem Wiki-Projekt Disinfopedia.org speziellere Ziele: Die Enzyklopädie der Propaganda soll dokumentieren, wie PR-Unternehmen, Lobbyisten und Thinktanks die öffentliche Meinung in den USA mit Hilfe von fragwürdigen wissenschaftlichen Studien, fingierten Graswurzelbewegungen oder schlichter Verbreitung von Falschinformationen beeinflussen. Auch Disinfopedia wächst und gedeiht unter Mitarbeit der Netzbewohner, und obwohl man annehmen müsste, dass gerade ein solches politisches Projekt besonders unter Störern und Angreifern leidet, hat sich die Wiki-Technologie bisher als resistent erwiesen. Wer sich mit dem Thema Wissensmanagement beschäftigt, sollte auf jeden Fall ernsthaft prüfen, ob die kleine Wiki-Teeküche für seine Belange ausreicht. Und für manche Netzphilosophen sind die erfolgreichen Experimente mit den offenen Websites dann auch mehr als nur ein gelungenes Beispiel für gemeinschaftliches Arbeiten: Sie seien auch Beweis dafür, dass die menschliche Konstruktivität größer ist als ihre zerstörerischen Kräfte. Ein digitaler Hoffnungsschimmer."
