1Moore, N.L.: LISA PLUS by Bowker-Saur : new developments in the PLUS user interface.
In: Electronic library. 12(1994) no.4, S.248-249.
Abstract: An earlier article compared the LISA CD-ROM database in its original form, when produced by SilverPlatter Information Inc., and its current form, as LISA PLUS, since LISA's acquisition by Bowker-Saur in 1990 (Electronic library 12(1994) no.1, S.5-9). The article compared the 2 databases with regard to the user interface software (SilverPlatter and Bowker Plus) particularly from the viewpoint of functionality and ease of use. The version of LISA PLUS, used in the study, was at an intermediate stage of development and because of this, errors crept into the study and some of the strenghts of LISA PLUS were missed. This short communication corrects these errors and points to improvements planned for the future including: cleaning up of the database; and loading of the LISA thesaurus on the database

2Moore, N.L.: LISA indexing : economic aspects of controlled indexing.
In: Indexer. 16(1988), S.11-16.
Abstract: Examines the accepted principles of controlled indexing, in published abstracting/indexing services and databases from the unusual aspect of the publisher's need to minimize production costs. Detailed information concerning the producution of LISA is presented showing income and costs. Ways in which factors involved in controlled indexing may be seen to manifest themselves in production parameters are shown by plotting graphs of the numbers of abstracts and index pages against numbers of abstracts for 77 individual issues of LISA. The close fit of the data to straight lines, with correlation coefficients approaching unity, provides a means of managing the size of individual issues to yield minimum printing/binding costs. The extended use of the CRG classification notation to provide automatic extraction of chain indexing strings and associated cross-references is described in detail. The gains in staff productivity resulting from this and other procedures are indicated with reference to the expansion in LISA's coverage between 1978 and 1984.
