13Clement, E.: Wilson indexes on CD-ROM : a comparison of WILSONDISC and SilverPlatter.
In: CD-ROM professional. 7(1994) no.1, S.155-157.
Abstract: Until recently, the only way to search the Wilson indexes on CD-ROM was to use the WILSONDISC databases from H.W. Wilson Co. In Summer 93, SilverPlatter Information Inc., announced that they were adding 17 of the Wilson databases to their catalogue of databases. By the end of 1994, all the Wilson databases are expected to be running on SilverPlatter. To compare the 2 systems, searches were conducted using the Wilson Business Abstracts; searching for single search terms; subject headings; and phrases. Concludes that the Wilson indexes are a welcome addition to SilverPlatter's collection combining as it does one of the most reliable sets of indexes with one of the most popular CD-ROM retrieval software packages

15Azzaro, S. ; Cleary, K.: One, two, three ... infinity : a computer assisted learning package for the first time user of SilverPlatter CD-ROMs.
In: Australian academic and research libraries. 25(1994) no.1, S.47-54.
Abstract: At the start of the academic year reference staff are hard pressed to provide sufficient assistance to first time users of CD-ROMs, who have missed bibliographic instruction classes, or who need more guidance before searching. The literature on CD-ROMs was reviewed, and a survey conducted to estimate the training needs of searchers. It was found that 100% of the inexperienced searchers required assistance while searching, and 50% of their search strategies were later rated as poor. More than half the experienced searchers also needed the librarians assistance, and 31% of this group demonstrated a poor understanding of searching techniques. The survey findings were incorporated into CDIntro, a computer assisted learning package designed by the authors

In: CD-ROM professional. 6(1993) no.3, S.142-143.
Abstract: Notes the growing trends among CD-ROM producers towards the provision of CD-ROM search software to be run on the Macintosh microcomputer. Reviews the particular features of one such system, MacSPIRS, developed by SilverPlatter Information Inc., by examining MEDLINE, one of the databases running on MacSPIRS (ver.2.1). Evaluates the best features of the software, the way in which records are displayed, Boolean operators and other advanced search features, printing of records, and help information. Notes some of the confusing features of the system and concludes that the impressions gained by users of the sysem will depend largely on their previous CD-ROM searching experience
