1Guenette, D.R.: ¬The CD-ROM-online connection.
In: CD-ROM professional. 9(1996) no.3, S.30(+12 S.).
Abstract: Rejects the view that the Internet and WWW are likely to render CD-ROM technology obsolete, arguing that CD-ROM and online are complementary, CD-ROMs offer high density, broad bandwidth data storage and access, while online offers narrow bandwidth data access with the capability of up to the minute updating. The fact that many long standing CD-ROM database publishers have an even longer standing in the online environment is contrasted with their slowness to exploit the shared data structures used to produce the databases. Examples cited of CD-ROM and online hybrid systems include: H.W. Wilson's WILSONLINE and WILSONDISC; SilverPlatter's SPIRS and Electronic Reference Library (ERL) technologies; UMI's databases; and Knight Ridder Information's DIALOG and DIALOG OnDisc titles. Predicts a growth in hybrid systems particularly where frequent updates are needed. These hybrids offer publishers the option of reducing the frequency of updating their CD-ROMs yet improving the currency of the services

2Clement, E.: Wilson indexes on CD-ROM : a comparison of WILSONDISC and SilverPlatter.
In: CD-ROM professional. 7(1994) no.1, S.155-157.
Abstract: Until recently, the only way to search the Wilson indexes on CD-ROM was to use the WILSONDISC databases from H.W. Wilson Co. In Summer 93, SilverPlatter Information Inc., announced that they were adding 17 of the Wilson databases to their catalogue of databases. By the end of 1994, all the Wilson databases are expected to be running on SilverPlatter. To compare the 2 systems, searches were conducted using the Wilson Business Abstracts; searching for single search terms; subject headings; and phrases. Concludes that the Wilson indexes are a welcome addition to SilverPlatter's collection combining as it does one of the most reliable sets of indexes with one of the most popular CD-ROM retrieval software packages

3Shaw, D.: CD-ROM interfaces for information retrieval : heuristic evaluation and observations of intended users.
In: Proceedings of the 14th National Online Meeting 1993, New York, 4-6 May 1993. Ed.: M.E. Williams. Medford, NJ : Learned Information, 1993. S.371-377.
ISBN 0-938734-73-3
Abstract: The WilsonDisc user interface for CD-ROM searching was evaluated using heuristic evaluation and observation of experienced users and used 2 Wilson Disc databases: MLA International Bibliography and Humanities Index. The heuristic evaluations identified 51 different problems, while observations found only 8. However, the major problem encountered by users: changing of the databases, was not found through heuristic evaluation. Suggests that expert evaluators explicitely consider the user interface environment, the context in which users elect to use the system

4Ernest, D.J. ; Lange, H.R.: INFOTRAC and WILSONDISC : a comparison of new technologies.
In: Reference services review. 17(1989) No.2, S.67-75.
Abstract: Describes InfoTrac (on laserdisc) and WILSONDISC (on CD-ROM), wich currently represent the only efforts to bring general periodical literature to end-users, and reports on the published reactions of librarians and users to these 2 products, as well as presenting a comparison of their search techniques and presentation of information to end-users. Reports from the field indicate that WILSONDISC is proving to be as popular with users as InfoTrac, and although the 2 systems provide different approaches to the presentation of general periodical citations, undergraduates appear able to adapt with little difficulty.

7Grabinsky, W.: Gartshore on Wilsondisc : another point of view.
In: School libraries in Canada. 8(1988) No.3, S.40-43.
Abstract: Response to Tom Gartshore's review of applicability for school libraries of the H.W. Wilson Company's indexes on CD-ROM and their information retrieval system WILSONDISC. Criticises that the Wilson indexes are good for school libraries as it is important that every high school teacher-librarian begins to rethink the role of periodical literature in the school library.
