Abstract
Die Untersuchung der Anwendungsbedingungen von Begriffen ist vor allem dann erforderlich, wenn deren Verwendungsweise aufgrund begrifflicher Entwicklungen unsicher geworden ist. Begriffe sind etwas Dynamisches und verändern sich beständig. Deshalb ist es bei wichtigen Begriffen geboten, sich von Zeit zu Zeit ihrer Verwendungsweise zu versichern. Die Begriffsanalyse hat dabei die doppelte Funktion, erstens wörtliche und metaphorische Verwendungsweisen zu identifizieren und zweitens auf dieser Grundlage zu entscheiden, ob neu hinzugekommene Bedeutungen mit bereits bestehenden Verwendungsweisen vereinbar sind, und ob sich der betreffende Begriff eventuell in geeigneter Weise erweitern läßt, um die neuen Bedeutungen zu integrieren. Grundsätzlich lassen sich daher zwei Arten der Begriffsanalyse voneinander unterscheiden: 1. Das Ziel der explikativen oder rekonstruktiven Begriffsanalyse besteht darin, die etablierten Verwendungsweisen von Begriffen zu beschreiben und festzustellen, in welchen Kontexten sie wörtlich oder metaphorisch verwendet werden. 2. Mit der konstruktiven Analyse wird hingegen die Absicht verfolgt, die Plausibilität der Anwendungsbedingungen abzuwägen und diese gegebenenfalls so zu verändern, daß neue Verwendungsweisen berücksichtigt werden können. In diesem Vortrag sollen einige Anwendungsbedingungen des Bildbegriffs untersucht werden. Der Anlaß dieser Untersuchung sind Veränderungen in der Verwendungsweise dieses Begriffs, die im Zusammenhang mit kognitionswissenschaftlichen Theorien stehen, mit denen die Annahme der Existenz mentaler Bilder vertreten wird.
